A tale of two cities here at the Bet365 Stadium and two teams who will be looking to be in the shake up come the end of the season.

Mark Robins is slowly but surely getting his stamp on this Potters side and they have made some shrewd additions in the summer and have started the season pretty well.

Birmingham bounced back at the first time of asking from League One and their ambitious owners have outlined plans for success both on and off the field.

These two come into this having suffered back to back defeats in the Carabao Cup and their last Championship clashes so a degree of bounce back is required.

It's a game where we could learn a lot and even this early in the season we could find out if these two are promotion pretenders or serious contenders.

    Media caption,

Stoke City manager Mark Robins on international break and visit of Birmingham City.

These two have had a fortnight to stew on their first defeats of the season - that's the trouble with the international break.

Not that those losses should be allowed to mar otherwise excellent starts for both these sides.

Stoke go into this one looking to avoid successive home defeats for the first time in 12 months while Blues have not lost back-to-back league games since April last year.

One thing the Potters appear to have done this season is sort out their goalscoring issues - from second-lowest scorers last year (45) they have already found the net eight times while only Swansea and Middlesbrough have conceded fewer.

Birmingham added experienced defender Jack Robinson from Sheffield United and Sunderland loanee Patrick Roberts during the transfer window with boss Chris Davies having real competition for places.

"We have a squad now that have to fight and earn their position in their team," he told BBC Radio WM.

So, a chance for one of these to get back on the horse or maybe fall off again this afternoon...

The calm before the storm as the biggest crowd of the season is expected here at the Coventry Building Society Arena today.

Over 30,000 fans due here later, and it’s easy to understand why.

The highest scorers in the Championship so far in Coventry City host a Norwich City side with a 100% record away and Championship player of the month Josh Sargent in their ranks.

Free-scoring Coventry City welcome Norwich City to the CBS Arena in an entertaining-looking fixture.

Frank Lampard's men have racked up 14 goals in their opening four Championship fixtures - including a 7-1 thrashing of QPR last month.

Today, they face a Canaries side inspired by star striker Josh Sargent, who picked up the Championship player of the month award for August after registering five goals in the first four matches.

Sargent is currently on 49 Championship goals for the Canaries; since his debut in the competition (30th July 2022) only Joel Piroe (51) has reached 50 goals in the competition.

All fingers point towards a bit of a goal-fest in the Midlands today - let's hope so, anyway.

You don’t have to be an expert to see why Bristol City come into this one as favourites.

They’re still unbeaten in the league and, of course, head into the game off the back of a 4-2 win over Hull before the international break, once again showing their goal-scoring threat.

But they’ll face a different kind of test against Sheffield Wednesday - a side that’s found unity on the pitch in response to the instability off it. It goes without saying, it hasn’t been a great start to the season; they’re still searching for their first league win and have gone 16 games without a clean sheet.

I did though speak to a fan outside the ground who wanted to thank local rivals Sheffield United, for “keeping their spirits up” during what he called the worst period in their history - because “at least they’re above the Blades.”

Sometimes, you’ve got to take the wins where you can!

  8. Troubled Owls look to take flightpublished at 14:51 BST

Sheff Wed v Bristol City (15:00 BST)

Given the off-field issues at Sheffield Wednesday it is perhaps no surprise that they've taken just one point from their opening four Championship matches.

With uncertainty about the future of the club, an inability to strengthen a depleted squad and fan protests against the ownership of Dejphon Chansiri games have often felt like a temporary distraction.

Still, despite their woes they are at least above beleaguered city-rivals Sheffield United, who were hammered 5-0 at Ipswich yesterday and sit rock-bottom.

The Owls are unbeaten in their past eight home league matches against today's opponents and a first Championship win since April would lift spirits.

The Robins are unbeaten this season with two wins and two draws and opened their campaign with a 4-1 win in this city at Bramall Lane.

Will the side also bag themselves a win to make it an even bigger party? Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word and they won't want to go breaking Elton's heart now, will they...

Both of these sides have won just one of their opening four league games.

The Hornets boast a decent recent record at Vicarage Road, with just two defeats in their past nine in front of their own supporters.

Blackburn, managed by former Watford boss Valerien Ismael, are looking to avoid starting a season with four defeats from their first five games for the first time since 2016-17. A season that saw them relegated to League One.

The Swans have made a bright start to the new season with seven points from their opening four matches.

Their early-season success has been built around a very solid base, with just two goals conceded in the league so far.

Visitors Hull City have been far more generous and let in four in their last game at Bristol City.

The Tigers are winless at the Swans since August 2016, when this was a Premier League fixture.

Wrexham secured their first win on their long-awaited return to the second-tier before the international break with a hard-fought 2-0 win at Millwall.

Today, they welcome a QPR side who are aiming to win successive league matches for the first time since recording four straight victories at the start of 2025.

New Wrexham striker Kieffer Moore has scored three goals in his last two league games and is looking to score in three in a row for the first time since 2022.

It is the first time the two clubs have met since the 2003-04 season, with the R's winning both third-tier encounters 2-0.

It's a Hawthorns Happy birthday today as the Baggies celebrate 125 years here in this famous old ground.

Everywhere you look there's scarves, banners and flags celebrating the milestone.

Dad and daughter Patrick and Sophie were wearing commemorative scarves to mark the day.

Patrick says The Hawthorns "is all about community, and family for me. I've been coming 30 years, it's changed a lot with promotions and relegations. But even with the stadium changes it still feels the same.

"I've moved away now. But it feels like home. And I've passed that on to my daughter."Daughter Sophie has been coming half her life and says "it's special because it's the place I come with my dad."Club legend Tony Bomber Brown delivered the match ball. No one has played here more. He's got his own statue outside.

  14. Can a Rams raid ruin the Hawthorns anniversary?published at 14:42 BST

West Brom v Derby (15:00 BST)

    Media caption,

Derby County head coach John Eustace speaks ahead of the Rams' trip to the Hawthorns.

When John Eustace took his Derby side to the Hawthorns on Easter Monday last season only goal difference was keeping them out of the relegation zone.

Ninety minutes and a 3-1 win later that was still the margin but it built a base for a subsequent win over Hull City and a point against Stoke to secure Championship football for a second season.

With 13 players moved out and 13 brought in Eustace can now work with his squad and maybe build on a 2-2 draw at Ipswich a fortnight ago which was seconds away from being a first win of the season.

"West Brom have been a top team in the Championship for three or four seasons - they have a settled, experienced squad but we're looking forward," the Rams boss told BBC Radio Derby.

This is a fifth season in the second tier for the Baggies, during which time they have never finished lower than tenth place but only once in the play-offs.

Ten points from the opening four games has been an impressive start under rookie head coach Ryan Mason as was a win at previously unbeaten Stoke before the international break.

Today West Brom will celebrate 125 years since they played their first game at the Hawthorns -against, funnily enough, the Rams - and with Derby having also won there in the EFL Cup this season, they won't want to mark that anniversary with the stain of a third successive defeat.

  15. Could beleaguered Blades bring back Wilder?published at 14:40 BST

The EFL weekend got under way on Friday night with Ipswich's 5-0 demolition of Sheffield United.

The Blades have now started the season with five successive league defeats and sit rock bottom under new boss Ruben Selles.

Pressure is growing on the Spaniard and now BBC Radio Sheffield's Rob Staton, external understands that Chris Wilder, who led them to third last season before they were beaten in the play-off final by Sunderland, could make a sensational return to the club three months after being sacked.

Middlesbrough keep their unbeaten start going with that late leveller at Preston and, barring a goalfest for West Brom against Derby will stay top today.

Leicester's draw with 10 men at Oxford moves them up to second for now.

Oxford's point moves them out of the drop zone pending the day's other results.

A draw does little for Charlton and Millwall's standing.

Last season you lose that game 2-1 but the substitutions made the difference today.

You have to think quickly and find a way to get back into the game and that's exactly what we did today, credit to the manager.

With the circumstances, I'm definitely happy with the result, the start of the game you'd be hoping Leicester would win.

Given the sending-off, I'll take the point.

The more I think about that red card, the harsher it seems, it's a late one, it's a booking but it's not a red card in anyone's book.

  19. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:28 BST

    Preston 2-2 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough's 100% start to the season is over but they remain unbeaten thanks to an injury-time leveller.

The home side led at the break through Lewis Dobbin's super strike before Boro levelled in the final 20 minutes thanks to Matt Targett;s first goal in almost four years.

The home side looked to have won it when Jordan Storey headed in a Ben Whiteman corner with a couple of minutes to go but an almighty goalmouth scramble saw sub Sontje Hansen (we think) equalise for Boro.

They miss out on winning five league games in a row at the start of the season for the first time in their history but will gladly take the point.

  20. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:27 BST

    Charlton 1-1 Millwall

And, breath - what a frenetic South London derby at The Valley.

Both sides will have to settle for a point a piece but it will be the visitors who will probably leave the happier.

Sonny Carey had given the home side, who still remain winless against The Lions in 30 years, a half-time lead when his half-volley through a crowd of players found the bottom corner of the net.

Millwall rallied, however, and after Kayne Ramsey was sent off for two bookable offences, substitute Raees Bangura-Williams buried a rebound to equalise with two minutes of regular time remaining and maintain Millwall's unbeaten record on the road this season.
