That's as far as we go in here on a goal-laden night of Championship football.

Leeds end the evening on top of the Championship but second-placed Sheffield United could topple them in 48 hours with a win over struggling Hull City.

Burnley moved up to third with a 5-0 hammering of bottom side Plymouth, perfect preparation for their home game against the Whites next Monday.

We'll be back with more EFL live text coverage tomorrow when Wrexham host Birmingham in League One.

Thanks for your company this evening.

    Cheers!

If I'd told you five years ago that Wrexham v Birmingham City in League One would be of huge interest in America you'd have probably... well, I think you'd have been surprised.

Five years is a long time in football though and the two third tier promotions chasers meet in Wales on Thursday in a game that will be followed across the world as much as it is by fans of Wycombe and Huddersfield.

Blues, part-owned by NFL legend Tom Brady, got the better of the Dragons, co-owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny, back in September and another win in this fixture would really put them in the driving seat for automatic promotion.

You'll be able to follow live text coverage of the game with us.

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho celebrates after the 3-1 win over StokeImage source, Rex Features

Portsmouth boss John Mousinho speaking after the game:

"It feels great, we knew how important this was pre-game and just everything about what was at stake.

"It meant that we could get ourselves up the league and above Stoke so we knew it was really key.

"We were ruthless and clinical and came out on top in my opinion in pretty much every area.

"I think it was a penalty (in the first half). When you push with two hands on the back you give an opportunity for the referee to give a foul."

  4. We responded terrifically - Manningpublished at 22:35 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

FT: Sheff Wed 2-2 Bristol City

Bristol City boss Liam Manning to BBC Radio Bristol: "I'm probably slightly frustrated. First half, there wasn't much in it - we lacked a bit of belief and purpose. But, on a tough pitch, it was a fairly even first half.

"We spoke about our mindset at half-time; to play forward, run forward, and we scored a fantastic goal, and then got hit by a sucker-punch.

"But I thought we responded terrifically. There was some outstanding stuff from us on a tough pitch. I really enjoyed our second half.

"We wanted to grab an opportunity and take it to the opposition. Not many teams will dominate like we did in the second-half and we could have nearly nicked it at the end.

"Ultimately, we've come away, we've taken a point and come away with something. I thought we became more dominant as the game wore on. We took the legs out of them. There are lots of positives to take, but things we can also work on."

  5. Stoke were bullied - Robinspublished at 22:32 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    FT: Portsmouth 3-1 Stoke

    Stoke City

Stoke City boss Mark Robins has not messed around with his post-match comments after his side slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Portsmouth and fell closer to the bottom three in the Championship.

"I'm really disappointed, they set the tone right from the start and we didn't live with that.

"We allowed them to bully us all night, I also didn't think for one second the referee was going to give a penalty and then he did, it is what it is.

"Let's have it right they've thrown themselves to the floor, they've fouled us, kicked us and we've had nothing.

"It's all the dark arts, they've got experienced players in the other side of the game and it's old school football."

Josh Laurent also spoke to Sky Sports about Burnley's impressive defensive record and their next game against Leeds:

“We take pride in it. Everyone from Zi [Flemming] back to the keeper, we work hard for each other. We take pride in it, we speak about it a lot and long may it continue.”

On the game against Leeds on Monday night: “It’s a big game. But we’re up for it as always. One game at a time, but we’re up for it.”

  7. 'The game suited us a lot'published at 22:24 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

Burnley midfielder Josh Laurent, who also bagged two goals this evening, told Sky Sports: “We’ve been working on it for a while now and everyone knows how good we are at keeping the ball out of our net. But tonight, we showed that quality in front of goal and we can do it. It’s just about consistency now.”

On why Burnley managed to win so convincingly: “The game today probably suited us a lot. They came at us and tried to press us high. We’ve got a lot of running power in our team and got a lot of quality.

“The game plan from the coaches was bang on. We executed really well. That could play a part. A lot of teams come to our place and bank the box a lot.”

  8. Postpublished at 22:18 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

That Plymouth vote in the 22:09 GMT entry is even more one sided than the one about Leeds winning promotion...

Probably quite understandable given the Pilgrims are now six points adrift with a massively inferior goal difference.

The Devon side, without an away win this season, face the long trek to fourth-placed Sunderland, unbeaten at home this campaign, on Saturday.

    Yikes.

  9. 'Goal difference could play a big part'published at 22:17 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    FT: Plymouth 0-5 Burnley

    Burnley

Here's some more from Zian Flemming to Sky Sports:

On the quality of the goals: "Most goals were good team goals and we got on the end of it. All the credit to the rest of the team. Not just the players who gave the assists but the players who gave the pass or a few passes before."

And on the battle for promotion: "It's a nice race between the four of us at the moment and sometimes you need big wins as well because goal difference could play a big part at the end of the season, so that's also why we are very eager to keep going.

"Unfortunately we didn't manage to do that in the second half, so there is a slight disappointment but feels a little bit weird to say."

  10. 'We've been waiting for a performance like this'published at 22:15 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

Zian Flemming celebratesImage source, Rex Features

Burnley forward Zian Flemming, who scored twice, told Sky Sports:

"I think we've been waiting for a performance like this for quite a while. We know we have the quality and we always want to score more goals.

"Then today, obviously first half we scored very easily. Really nice."

On scoring seven goals in his past six away games: "I would rather score at home as well if I'm being honest. Coincidence maybe?"

  11. Are Leeds going up?published at 22:13 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    FT: Leeds 2-0 Norwich

    Daniel JamesImage source, Rex Features

They're only three points above third-placed Burnley, who they have to visit on Monday, but Leeds feel fairly unstoppable at the moment.

Daniel Farke's side have only lost once since the start of November.

    Are Leeds shoo-ins for promotion?

Thumbs up for yes, thumbs down for no.

  12. Can Muslic keep Plymouth up?published at 22:09 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    Miron MuslicImage source, Rex Features

It's VERY early days for new Plymouth boss Miron Muslic, but that's now just one point taken from his opening three games in charge.

And they've all been at Home Park.

Plymouth fans, do you have faith that he can keep you in the Championship?

Thumbs up for yes, thumbs down for no.

  13. Leeds back on top... for nowpublished at 22:06 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    Championship table top

Leeds end tonight atop the Championship after their routine win over Norwich.

Burnley massively boosted their goal difference with their 5-0 shellacking of lowly Plymouth and move back up to third.

All the other runners and riders in the top six played yesterday.

Sheffield United can go back up to the second tier summit with a win over Hull City on Friday in what really is a relentless season.

The top four sides in the Championship all won this midweek to mean there are 10 points between fourth-placed Sunderland and fifth-placed Boro.

  14. Pompey play up but Pilgrims punishedpublished at 22:03 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    Championship table bottom

Plymouth's miserable season took another turn for the worse in the shape of their biggest home defeat this campaign.

The Pilgrims' 5-0 loss to promotion-chasing Burnley means they are now six points adrift of safety with a massively inferior goal difference to everyone above them.

Portsmouth claimed a fourth successive home win and moved out of the bottom three with a 3-1 win over Stoke who are going the wrong way.

  15. Postpublished at 22:00 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    FT: Plymouth 0-5 Burnley

That's 14 games without a win in the Championship now for Plymouth Argyle (D6 L8).

The Pilgrims also have both the leakiest defence (60 goals conceded) and the least potent attack (25 goals scored).

  16. 'Promotion winning performance'published at 21:56 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    FT: Plymouth 0-5 Burnley

    Steve Eyre
Former Manchester City coach on BBC Radio Lancashire

Yes, the clean sheet was good tonight, but the key was playing well and racking up some goals.

And even though Plymouth were incredibly poor this was a promotion winning performance from a Burnley side looking forward to the next game against Championship leaders Leeds.

  17. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    Plymouth 0-5 Burnley

What an easy night that was for Burnley. A disastrous one for Plymouth.

Five first-half goals for the Clarets help them keep pace with the automatic promotion spots.

Argyle remain rooted to the bottom and the goal difference has taken a real pasting.

An evening to forget for Miron Muslic and his side who have a LOT of work to do to escape the drop this season.

Leeds players will be back in the dressing room now and seeing that score come in from Home Park with some interest.

The Whites travel to Burnley on Monday for what promises to a be a cracking game between two of the best sides at this level.

Daniel Farke's men are unbeaten in 11, while Scott Parker's men haven't lost any of their past 16 games in all competitions.

The fourth official held up his sign for additional time and Miron Muslic walked past smiling.

Maybe he's thankful there's not more than two minutes.

Only two minutes added on. Kind on Plymouth. This game was over about 60 minutes ago to be fair.
