Arsenal go into arguably the biggest game of their season not in the best of form.

On Saturday, Mikel Arteta's side were beaten by Bournemouth, who came back from behind to win 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium and boost their own European ambitions.

The Gunners fielded a strong side despite having to overturn a 1-0 deficit in the Champions League semi-finals against Paris St-Germain on Wednesday.

And it began so well for the home side as Declan Rice marked his 100th appearance for the club with a first-half opener.

But Dean Huijsen and Evanilson scored for the Cherries in the second half to stun second-placed Arsenal.

The Gunners now need to produce a comeback of their own in Paris if they want to keep their Champions League dream alive.

Great news that Villa's game v Spurs has been moved. As a Villa fan, I assume this will mean any request for their games to be moved next season for European competition to be waved through by the Premier League... right?

    Matt

I do agree that domestic fixtures should be moved to allow teams more time to prepare for European games. It would however be hilarious if Spurs get knocked out on Thursday.

PSG v Arsenal (1-0 on agg; Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Arsenal

We have just seen visuals of Paris St-Germain star Ousmane Dembele warming up.

He looks fit to face Arsenal in the Champions League semi-final second leg after shrugging off a hamstring issue.

Now it's time to take a peak into Arsenal's training and all eyes will be on Martin Odegaard, who was seen limping at full-time in the 2-1 defeat by Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Arsenal captain had picked up the knock after inadvertently kicking the turf when taking a shot.

We will also keep an eye on defender Jurrien Timber, who missed the game against the Cherries with an injury.

We understand they are running a little late, but you will be able to watch Mikel Arteta's side training live when they finally do take to the field.

  9. Who will qualify for the Champions League?published at 10:53 British Summer Time 6 May

The numbers are constantly fluctuating so expect these to change, but we have some early readings on which teams you think will finish in the top five.

The first number is the number of thumbs up, the second number is the number of thumbs down.

Currently, third-placed Manchester City have the most thumbs up for a top-five finish and a place in next season's Champions League, while Chelsea have the most thumbs down, meaning readers think they are the club most likely to miss out on Champions League football:

If you want to have your say, just click on the club link and let the thumbs do the talking...

Re: Jim, at 10:33. The moving of the Villa vs Spurs fixture is actually just the Premier League catching up with other European leagues, who regularly allow their teams to move domestic league fixtures in order to prioritise European competitions as it reflects well on their domestic leagues and their strength. The Premier League is actually behind other European leagues on doing this. There’s a precedent on the continent.

    Hannah

Re 10:33 - I don't see it as an outrage at all. All other leagues do their best to help their teams succeed in Europe. This could set a precedent for the PL to do so in future, including for Villa.

  11. Who could qualify for the Conference League?published at 10:43 British Summer Time 6 May

    Conference League

There will be one Conference League place awarded to a Premier League team.

As things stand that will go to Carabao Cup winners Newcastle, but that could change if Eddie Howe's side qualify for the Champions League or the Europa League.

As Newcastle currently sit inside the top four, that looks likely.

Even a ninth (currently Brentford) or 10th-place (Brighton) finish could realistically be enough to secure a spot in next season's Conference League.

I think the Europa League or Conference League would be better for Nottingham Forest than the Champions League. It would get them used to all the travelling and extra matches but at a lower level so they could rotate at times and hopefully not affect their league form. And of course they would actually have a chance of winning a European trophy. Yes, a lot less money but steady as she goes!

  13. How many teams could qualify for the Europa League?published at 10:37 British Summer Time 6 May

We have been talking about Champions League qualification all morning, but it is important to note that there could be a maximum of three Premier League teams competing in the Europa League next season.

Two of those places will likely go to the team that finishes sixth and the FA Cup winners.

However, if the cup winners have already secured a European place - which is likely if it is Manchester City - then it will then go to the next highest placed side who have not qualified for Europe.

A third place could be awarded if Chelsea win the Conference League and fail to qualify for the Champions League.

I feel like that late Man City goal v Villa is going to hurt more and more with each passing week.

Gary, Aston Villa fan in Oxford

As a Villa fan, conceding a late goal to Man City and Chelsea beating Liverpool has taken it away from us. A draw in both those games would have Newcastle on 63, Man City 62, and Chelsea, Forest, and Villa all on 61 points, which would have been great. Too much now for Villa though.

  17. Second or sixth still possible for Newcastlepublished at 10:27 British Summer Time 6 May

Newcastle are well positioned to secure a place in the Champions League next season, but so tight is the battle they could finish as high as second, or drop out of the qualification spots altogether.

For Eddie Howe's side to finish runners-up they would need Arsenal, currently second and four points ahead of Newcastle, to secure no more than five points from their final three matches.

Newcastle face Arsenal in their penultimate match of the season on 18 May in North London so winning that would be a big boost to their hopes of taking second place.

The Magpies are two points above Nottingham Forest, who are sixth, so know that if they better or at least match Forest's results in their remaining games will ensure they finish above them.

  18. Villa v Spurs set to be movedpublished at 10:23 British Summer Time 6 May
    Breaking

    Sami Mokbel
    BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

The Premier League clash between Aston Villa and Tottenham is set to be moved to 16 May to allow the London club extra time to prepare for a potential Europa League final.

Spurs were due to travel to Villa Park on Sunday, May 18 at 14:15 BST, but submitted a request to the Premier League for the game to be brought forward in order for Ange Postecoglou’s side to have longer to prepare for a possible Europa League final in Bilbao on 21 May.

Villa objected to the request, citing there is no set precedent for the Premier League moving fixtures to help clubs in European competition.

At the time, it was pointed out to BBC Sport that Villa played every three to four days over April owing to their participation in the Champions League and FA Cup.

Another reason for the objection was because the game against Tottenham, Villa’s final home game of the season, would include a number of pre-organised family activities which would not be possible to complete if the clash was held in the evening of a school night.

Tottenham had originally asked for the game to be moved to the evening of Thursday, 15 May.

However, the Premier League are set to confirm the game will be moved to Friday, 16 May.

Pertinently, Manchester United - who are also on course to qualify for the Europa League final - face Chelsea on the same night.

Therefore, Tottenham and United will have the same amount of recovery time should they both make the final in Spain.

Tottenham are 3-1 ahead in their semi-final against Bodo/Glimt while United are 3-0 up in their tie versus Athletic Bilbao with both second-legs played this Thursday.

Derek rightly flags that Manchester United and Tottenham, who are both in the Europa League semi-finals, have fixtures against sides in contention for the top five.

Spurs, for example, are due to play at Aston Villa on 18 May.

But BBC Sport's senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel has some news on that front...
