Crucial to keeping Nottingham Forest in the Champions League hunt will be if they can find a way to get Chris Wood scoring again.

The striker scored 18 goals in his first 25 Premier League appearances this season but in the next eight games he has managed to score just once.

Against Crystal Palace he had two shots, with both efforts blocked.

“Offensive players, strikers, you know better than me, it’s very difficult to sustain,” Nuno Espirito Santo said when asked about Chris Wood’s form.

“But we cannot take away what Chris has been giving to us. It’s huge. It’s magnificent.

“It’s not only Chris [we need]. It’s all the team. The last these three games we are going to need them all. We’re going to need the best of each one of them.”

Nottingham Forest were without Callum Hudson-Odoi last night after the winger suffered a hamstring injury against Brentford last week.

Boss Nuno Espirito Santo said he will miss Forest's next game against Leicester, but is hopeful to have him back for the final two fixtures of the season - against West Ham and Chelsea.

“He has a hamstring problem," he said. "He's going to be out, we're not sure how long."

Even with three games to go I actually can’t call who will make the top five. Forest’s remaining fixtures are decent but they themselves are out of form, Chelsea and Newcastle have to play two of the top six and could drop points. Even Villa’s final fixtures are arguably the kindest and they could be a wildcard if they win all three. Only nailed on team is predictably, and despite this being their worst season in a decade, Man City. Some things never change…

Lots of talk of Chelsea and Forest for CL spot. What about Villa? Tough run in, but in the conversation as well!

Back to Nottingham Forest and the problems do seem to be mounting up for manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Murillo scored the equaliser for Forest at Crystal Palace last night but went off with an injury.

After the game, Nuno said he didn't know how bad it was, only that he was "in pain".

"Only a scan can show this," he said.

"He's in pain but let's assess him and the scan will tell us exactly what he has."

I am a Chelsea fan and I think we’re hitting a bit of form at the right time and with Forest seemingly dropping off a bit I couldn’t be happier. I think if we’re able to get a good result against Newcastle in our next game, then we have a very good chance of sealing it. I’d say the top five stays as it is now at the end of the season, which will still be a very good season for Forest in 6th or 7th, as that still gives them European football.

The draw for Crystal Palace means they are 12th in the Premier League, seven points off the top eight with three games remaining.

Their main focus for the remainder of this season will be the FA Cup final, where they face Manchester City.

Palace are unbeaten in their last four games and boss Oliver Glasner is happy with the desire to win his players are showing at the moment.

"I really liked how the players wanted to win this game," he told BBC MOTD after Monday's game with Nottingham Forest.

"I'm really pleased. The players showed today they wanted to win this game but it was a draw. The desire to win was unbelievable.

"The best players in the best team want to play. We had a great impact from the bench and this is great for the next weeks."

A point last night against Palace has to be positive after Brentford last week. I still feel confident we will finish in the top five but whatever happens I'm proud of all our players.

  12. An omen from last season?published at 08:11 British Summer Time

Randomly, Nottingham Forest faced Chelsea in their final home game of last season, and it proved to be an absolute humdinger.

The two sides were locked at 1-1 going into the final 15 minutes, before Callum Hudson-Odoi put Forest ahead.

Chelsea countered with two goals in two minutes from Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson to claim all three points in a 3-2 win.

Forest fans will be hoping that history will not be repeated...

    BBC 5 Live Breakfast

Former Nottingham Forest striker Rob Earnshaw told BBC Radio 5 Live: "It could be a cup final on the final day against Chelsea. Ideally you want to probably get two wins before that and that would put big pressure on Chelsea. Then you might only need a draw because I think seven points will do it.

"That could be a cup final [against Chelsea at the City Ground] - whoever wins goes to the Champions League. On that final day, it could be an absolute cruncher of a game."

Elliott doesn't think Nottingham Forest will get back into the Champions League places, but Rob Earnshaw thinks seven points from their final three games - at home to Leicester, away to West Ham and against Champions League rivals Chelsea at the City Ground on the final day of the season - would be enough...

Sad to see Forest drop out of the top five and it's hard to see them getting back in it. The Premier League has become so boring over the years and Forest were a bright light but it seems as if the fairytale is over.

  16. From nailed on to outside chance in two matches?published at 07:50 British Summer Time

    Crystal Palace 1-1 Nottm Forest

As Rob Earnshaw put it, until recently Nottingham Forest looked "nailed on" to qualify for next season's Champions League.

They reached the season's halfway point in second place in the Premier League table and had been no lower than third since 26 December - when they won 1-0 at home to Tottenham - up to 21 April, when they won 2-1 at Spurs.

But a defeat to Brentford and Monday's point at Crystal Palace has seen them fall from third to sixth, with three matches of the season remaining.

  17. It is still in Forest's hands - Earnshawpublished at 07:41 British Summer Time

    Crystal Palace 1-1 Nottm Forest

Former Nottingham Forest striker Rob Earnshaw told 5 Live Breakfast that while fans will be disappointed to see their side dropping down the table, he believes Champions League qualification is till in their hands:

"It looks a little bit more difficult, but you know what, in my opinion I actually still think it is in their hands.

"They are still sixth, there is only two points the difference between [Forest and] Chelsea and Newcastle [in fifth and fourth, respectively].

"But when you have been in third for so long it is a little bit more disappointing when you see yourself start dropping and dropping.

"Two weeks ago they were probably nailed on and now they are in sixth, so it is very difficult. But I say it is in their hands because they have probably got the best fixtures out of the whole lot."

  18. 'This last few games are going to be like this'published at 07:37 British Summer Time

    Crystal Palace 1-1 Nottm Forest

A top-five finish remains in Nottingham Forest's hands with some favourable fixtures coming up:

    • 11 May: Leicester (H)
    • 18 May: West Ham (A)
    • 25 May: Chelsea (H)

Their next opponents, Leicester, are already relegated but the two sides have a fierce rivalry and the Foxes will be keen not to drop out of the division with a whimper.

Then it is off to West Ham, who are struggling for form themselves, before a potentially decisive meeting with Champions League rivals Chelsea at the City Ground on the final day of the season.

"This last few games are going to be like this. Nervous games, tight games, everybody is fighting for something," Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo told BBC's Match of the Day.

"It's up to us to react and read the moments of the game better, and make better decisions playing with all this noise around us so the boys can settle down again and play."

    • What do you think? Thumbs up if you think Forest will qualify for the Champions League, thumbs down if you don't.

Nottingham Forest are having a drop off in form at just the wrong time as they look to secure a return to Europe next season.

They claimed an impressive 2-1 win at Tottenham on 21 April but that is their only win in their last six games in all competitions, which includes a run of four defeats.

However, next up for Nottingham Forest is a home game against Leicester and they will fancy their chances of getting a crucial win against the relegated side.
