  2. 'We're in a dark place'published at 22:22 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November

    FT: Sporting 4-1 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva to TNT Sports: "It's disappointing because we're a bit in a dark place right now. Everything looks to be going in the wrong way.

"Even when we are playing well we don't score our chances and we concede too easily. We definitely need to look inside and check what we're not doing well. And we need to get better very quickly otherwise it will be very difficult to come back from these losses.

"It's football. It's difficult to find reasons for what is happening to us. I don't remember in seven-and-a-half seasons this team losing three games in a row. It just looks like this team is going the wrong way now.

"The good thing is even though we have lost these three games we are still in a good position especially in the Premier League. After losing three games we are still in the main competitions fighting for everything. But we need to better, obviously.

"Our injured players need to come back because we need them and it's just not good enough tonight."

Just imagine if Man Utd’s new boss was to make a big money move for his former club’s star striker… Gyökeres could be the new Antony!

The way Viktor Gyokeres scored the goal from open play, he just shrugs off the defender and was composed and clinical to put the ball over the keeper. There will be a few clubs, including his current manager, who will be thinking that this guy can mix it with the best. It is surely a matter of time before the big clubs snap him up.

  5. 'We could have scored more'published at 22:16 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November

    FT: Sporting 4-1 Man City

Sporting forward Viktor Gyokeres to Uefa: "It's always nice to score and even better to score a hat-trick. Most important was to win the game so it was a brilliant night for us.

"We knew it was going to be tough and we didn't start off well. We knew they would give us space and we could have scored more than four to be fair. They could have scored more as well.

"You need to raise your level when you play better opponents. I tried to keep doing what I've been doing."

On manager Ruben Amorim leaving for Manchester United: "We will miss him a lot. We've done amazing things together. We will miss him and the other guys in the staff who will leave. We have to look forward and attack the next challenge ahead of us."

Man City are struggling at the moment. They have got the youngsters playing at the back and that is never easy. But then you look at the forward players and there is so much experience within that squad, they should be able to go there and see the game out after they went 1-0 ahead.

If Erling Haaland scores that penalty then that might change the game. How often do we see him miss penalties? Very, very rarely. A bad night and a bad week for City.

  8. Postpublished at 22:12 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November

    FT: Sporting 4-1 Man City

It is the first time since April 2018 that Manchester City have lost three consecutive matches with back-to-back losses to Tottenham, Bournemouth and now Sporting.

It was City’s heaviest defeat since September 2020 and only the second time that they have been beaten in three consecutive games in a single season under Pep Guardiola.

What is going wrong for City? Missing players? Defensive frailties? What do you think?

Yet again Slot is ebbing away at Klopp's legacy...same players, much better team. At what point do we start realising that Klopp massively underachieved?

Credit to Arne Slot. He changed things tactically and the team talk must have been really positive, and Liverpool came out firing in the second half and blew Leverkusen away.

I am quite shocked at this scoreline after the first half. Bayer Leverkusen looked organised, they had a game plan but they have fallen to pieces. They haven't had answers.

What a way for Ruben Amorim to say goodbye to the Jose Alvalade Stadium. A brilliant second-half performance from Sporting. A tough, tough night for Manchester City.

    Four-midable.

Goalless at the break, Liverpool steamrollered the German champions Bayer Leverkusen with a scintillating second-half showing.

Luis Diaz got three of them, with Cody Gakpo heading the other one, awarded after a VAR tight offside call.

Luis Diaz will get the plaudits for the goal but the defending from Andrew Robertson, snapping into a challenge, gets the side off on the counter.

When Diaz gets the ball he takes a touch as it falls to him and gets the shot into the bottom left hand corner.

Gyokeres is the player Arsenal need up front. However he must be the most expensive striker in world football now. He’s on fire regularly and has been for months. Unstoppable. His display tonight was breathtaking
