With respect to Michael (see 20:36 entry), Amorim's not bringing over Sporting as a football team, he's bringing an ideology of how to approach football. That should, if you're a good coach, be able to translate across leagues.

  8. Attention to detailpublished at 20:43 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November

    Sporting 1-1 Man City

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter in Lisbon

There was no time for Ruben Amorim to celebrate his side's equaliser.

As stadium was rocking to the sound of Sporting fans celebrating Viktor Gyokeres' goal, Amorim called Zeno Blast, Ousmane Diomande and Goevany Quenda over to go through in detail what he wants from their defence and wing-back combination.

I am surprised they heard him if I am being honest.

  9. Postpublished at 20:43 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November

    Sporting 1-1 Man City

End-to-end stuff here! What a game.

Matheus Nunes tests Franco Israel from 20-yards out and the Sporting keeper tips it over the bar. Less than five minutes to go until the break.

That goal is the first one Manchester City have conceded in the Champions League this season.

You are just waiting for that moment to change the game, something to bring us off our seats. One moment of brilliance, it is just a matter of who is going to provide it.

Bit of a non-event at Anfield so far. Kind of wish the camera would pan around and show all the fantastic sounding fireworks we’re missing…

When Sporting get forward they look really dangerous and pretty much carve Manchester City open.

Trincao is through but blazes his shot over the bar.

GOAL - Sporting 1-1 Man Citypublished at 20:38 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November

    Viktor Gyokeres (38 mins)

Utter dominance from Manchester City but for all their chances they haven't added more to their tally and now they've been punished.

It's a lovely threaded pass from midfield from Geovany Quenda to find Viktor Gyokeres, who only has to beat youngster Jahmai Simpson-Pusey and slot into the far corner.

Timed his run brilliantly. Lovely finish. Game on.

Plenty of fireworks around the Anfield area tonight. Not too much sparkle on the pitch so far.

  16. Postpublished at 20:38 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November

    Sporting 0-1 Man City

Phil Foden you cheeky boy. He flicks the little backheel to Bernardo Silva behind him on the edge of the area but the Portuguese midfielder's effort low drive is just wide.

City will want another here. Just less than 10 minutes to go until the break.

  17. Postpublished at 20:37 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November

    Liverpool 0-0 Bayer Leverkusen

Trent Alexander-Arnold does take the free-kick, but a jumping Leverkusen wall does its job, with the ball bouncing off Jonathan Tah's head and away for a corner. Kostas Tsimikas takes it, but Lukas Hradecky shows good handling to grab hold of the delivery.

Michael Reid: 25 minutes gone and City have had 3/4 of the ball and looking conformable. Not sure Amorim appreciates the difference in levels between the leagues.

  19. Postpublished at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November

    Sporting 0-1 Man City

Lovely passing around the 18-yard box from Manchester City.

Bernardo Silva picks it up in the box and it requires a bit of physicality from Ousmane Diomande to prevent him getting a shot off.

  20. 'A moment of brilliance to unlock this game'published at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November

    Liverpool 0-0 Bayer Leverkusen

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

There has not been any real shots of note yet. It has been really interesting tactically in the middle of the park, just feeling each other out. It will perhaps take a moment of brilliance to unlock this game.
