Match Facts
Tottenham Hotspur have won eight of their nine Premier League home games against Burnley (D1), only failing to take all three points in a 1-1 draw in August 2017, under Mauricio Pochettino.
This is just the second time Burnley are starting a Premier League campaign with a game in London, previously beating reigning champions Chelsea 3-2 at Stamford Bridge in 2017-18.
Tottenham Hotspur will open a Premier League campaign at home to a promoted team for the third time, with the previous two both ending in 3-1 victories – v Ipswich Town in 2000-01 and Aston Villa in 2019-20.
Burnley have lost their opening match in each of their last three Premier League campaigns, with their last victory coming in 2019-20 against Southampton (3-0).
Tottenham haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 13 Premier League games, last having a longer run between August and December 2010 (17).
Tottenham lost each of their last three Premier League home games in 2024-25 – they last lost four in a row back in November 2004.
Burnley didn’t concede more than one goal in any of their 46 league games last season. However, in the Premier League they’re without a clean sheet in 20 games since a 2-0 win at Fulham in December 2023.
This will be Thomas Frank’s first Premier League match in charge of Tottenham. Including caretakers, none of Spurs’ last eight managers has lost their first league game (W5 D3), with André Villas-Boas in August 2012 the last to do so (1-2 v Newcastle).
This will be the third time that Burnley manager Scott Parker has come up against his former side Tottenham Hotspur as a manager, having drawn 1-1 away and lost 1-0 at home against them in the 2020-21 Premier League season (in charge of Fulham).
João Palhinha could make his Tottenham Hotspur debut in this game – across his two seasons in the Premier League previously in 2022-23 and 2023-24 while at Fulham, Palhinha made 109 more tackles than any other player (300) and he picked up five more yellow cards than anyone else (27).
