The Hearts fans have rightly been critical of their team's performances so far this season and manager Steven Naismith knows a vast improvement is required.

Without a victory since early May and with expectations of pushing towards the top of the table, this season so far has been woeful.

By contrast Dundee United have lost just the one game this campaign and that was to Falkirk in their first League Cup group match.

If [the changes] don't work and Hearts lose again today, there will be a lot of disgruntled supporters.

I'm not sure you can keep going along this path of changing and changing the team and not getting results.

There will be a point where something gives, whether that is the rotation or the coaching staff.

  8. 'We're out of Europe, full focus on league now' - McInnespublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 1 September

    Kilmarnock v Hibernian (15:00)

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "I think we’re always confident at home. There have been factors domestically that have made the games more challenging.

"I can talk about the schedule, but we’ve also not helped ourselves with getting men sent off.

"It’s been a real immense source of pride; the European ties. We were undefeated at home against three good European sides so there’s loads of positives that have come out of it.

"Now we’re out, it’s important we have that complete focus on the league. We hope to go into the break with a positive result and performance today.

"We need to be what we were last season as much as we can.

"Marley [Watkins] felt his hamstring before Thursday night. It was a huge game so he was worth the risk.

"He wouldn’t be able to perform today so we’ll nurse him down and build his fitness. Hopefully by the time the St Mirren game comes around in a couple of weeks he’ll be fully fit."

  9. 'Never a good time to play Hearts' - Goodwinpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 1 September

    Hearts v Dundee United (15:00)

Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin tells BBC Scotland: "Hearts are on a difficult run, but a run like that can only continue for so long.

"I don't know if there's ever a good time to play good opposition but we're in a good place ourselves. Seven unbeaten and we could go into the international break third in the table.

"We worked hard from January onwards in trying to identify good young talent. As a manager, you always hope the new signings will settle in quickly, and they have."

Hearts manager Steven Naismith tells BBC Scotland: "We feel we need a bit of freshness. We've been lacking a cutting edge in the final third of the pitch. Hopefully there'll be more end product.

"When you're not winning games, fans won't be happy. That's simple as. None of us are happy that we aren't winning. In the games we've played, there have been good and poor moments.

"We've not scored enough goals and hopefully that changes today.

"I've played at the highest level, I understand there'll be tough periods. It's easy to pick out the negatives, but it comes with the territory. I believe in this group of players."

Hibernian head coach David Gray tells BBC Scotland: “I'm really looking forward to the game, we've had a good week of training.

"Both sides will be desperate for their first win so we know it’s going to be a difficult challenge, but we are ready for it.

“Nectarios Triantis has had a good pre-season at Sunderland and he is ready to go.

"We know exactly what we're going to get from him, he doesn't need time to adjust so we are looking forward to seeing him today.

“The fans travel in their numbers every single week. Hopefully we send them heading back east happy with a positive result.

“We need to build on the positive of last week's first point of the season, we want to make that three today."

  13. 'Huge difference between two teams'published at 14:45 British Summer Time 1 September

    FT: Celtic 3-0 Rangers

    Billy Dodds
Former Rangers striker on BBC Sportsound

It's not good enough [from Rangers].

I know it's difficult because Celtic are a very good team - they are in such a rich vein of form and they play with confidence, pace and energy.

Rangers had a spell from 10 minutes in the first half and wee spell in the second half, and some late chances, but it's too little too late.

On this evidence today, and you only hope the new signings will affect that, but there is a huge difference between the two.

  14. 'Everything about Celtic is strong' - McGregorpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 1 September

Celtic captain Callum McGregor tells Sky Sports: "When you're feeling good, the game opens up for you. Another good strike.

"Everything's strong, performances have been strong. Glad we got the result today, obviously a big game.

"We'll just keep going after the international break, hopefully no injuries and trying to drive the maximum we can out of the group."

  15. 'Celtic will remain dominant for a while'published at 14:40 British Summer Time 1 September

    FT: Celtic 3-0 Rangers

    Tom English
    BBC Scotland's chief sports writer

Celtic were completely dominant. They dropped a gear or so and still made it 3-0. It was a brilliant performance. It was one of the best 45 minutes I have seen from Celtic in years in the first half.

There is a gulf here. Celtic will remain dominant for quite some time.

  16. 'Embarrassing'published at 14:38 British Summer Time 1 September

    FT: Celtic 3-0 Rangers

    Kris Boyd
Former Rangers striker on Sky Sports

Celtic make things happen, Rangers hope things happen.

It's about time people realise this isn't going anywhere fast, that was embarrassing from Rangers.

Lawrence Shankland returns from a knee injury to start against his former side. In the 2022-23 season, he scored against them every time he played them.

The captain is one of four changes as Craig Halkett, Yutaro Oda and Blair Spittal come in. They replace Kye Rowles, Cammy Devlin, Gerard Taylor and Liam Boyce.

Meanwhile, Jim Goodwin keeps the same XI for the third week in a row, with Kevin Holt continuing his role as a number six in midfield.

Vicko Sevelj returns to the bench and deadline day signing Sam Dalby is also named among the substitutes.

Derek McInnes makes four changes to the side that exited Europe in midweek.

Bruce Anderson, Liam Polworth, David Watson and Corrie Ndaba replace Marley Watkins, Liam Donnelly, Brad Lyons and Jack Burroughs.

Lyons is suspended and fellow midfielder Donnelly picked up an injury during Thursday’s Conference League qualifier match.

Nectarios Triantis starts on his first game back at Hibs since returning to the club on the deadline day. The Sunderland-loanee is the only change that David Gray has made to the team that drew 2-2 with Dundee last weekend.

Nicky Cadden drops to the bench with Rudi Molotnikov moving out to the left-wing to accommodate Triantis’ place in midfield. Hibs are expected to line up in a 4-3-3 formation as opposed to last weekend’s 4-2-3-1.

Jake Doyle-Hayes, Elie Youan and Junior Hoilett are left out of the squad as they build up their fitness following lay-offs.
