Summary

  1. Postpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 1 September

    Hearts 0-0 Dundee United

A towering header goes a foot or two over the bar. It's Ross Graham with it.

Once again, Hearts' zonal marking tactics are pulled apart.

  2. goal

GOAL! Kilmarnock 0-1 Hibernianpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 1 September

    Joe Newell

Was it a cross? Was it a shot?

The Hibs fans won't care. Joe Newell has whipped one into the top corner to give the visitors the lead!

  3. Postpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 1 September

    Hearts 0-0 Dundee United

Kristijan Trapanovski breaks free in the Hearts half. It's two-on-one, but he freezes up and keeps the ball.

The chance is squandered, and what a wonderful chance it was.

    Jim Goodwin must be livid.

  4. KICK-OFFpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 1 September

    Kilmarnock 0-0 Hibernian

We're back under way at Rugby Park. No changes.

Let's hope for some goals in the second period.

Kick-off at Tynecastle will shortly follow.

    Kenny Crawford
BBC Sport Scotland at Rugby Park

This shouldn’t be 0-0, but it is thanks to Kyle Vassell and Kieran O’Hara.

Killie striker Vassell’s bizarre miss from one yard out at the back post was uncharacteristic, to say the least.

Then the hosts' goalkeeper O’Hara continued his fine string of saves of late with a dive to deny Hyeok Kyu Kwon, before tipping a 45-yard Mykola Kuharevich effort over the crossbar.

Surely the net will bulge in the second half?!

  6. 'Rangers in battle to finish second'published at 16:05 British Summer Time 1 September

    FT: Celtic 3-0 Rangers

    Kris Boyd
Former Rangers striker on Sky Sports

You look at Callum McGregor who leads by example. Rangers don’t have any leaders.

Beating Ross County 6-0 and swaggering about is well and good; these are the games that matter, these are the games you are judged on.

Rangers are in a battle to finish second. There’s nothing there suggesting to me Rangers are better than the rest in the league right now.

Everybody looks to Rangers to close the gap on Celtic; they are miles off it.

Philippe Clement 'convinced' Rangers can still challenge Celtic

Rangers manager Philippe Clement tells BBC Scotland: "Losing 3-0 is very hard, but we didn't reward ourselves.

"We started as the best team with two clear chances. You need to take these moments if you want to win Old Firm games.

"We are a young team, only just together. The starting XI of Celtic have a lot of experience together.

"We have a lot of things to work on - we know. We knew that before the game already. In that way, it's positive there were good signs in the way we started, but there are also lots of details to work on."

On bridging the gap: "By working hard and making things better. Financially we will not close it, so we need to work harder and better."

On mounting a title challenge: "I'm totally convinced of that. There are 34 games to go.

"Don't forget what happened last week [6-0 win against Ross County]. It was the best result in around four years for the club. It's not black and white - it's grey, maybe dark grey.

"Nobody wants to lose 3-0 but we need to take the right conclusions. The right conclusion is we should have made it 3-2 or 3-3 by being more efficient.

"They had four shots on target, we had four shots on target. There are a lot of things equal but not the result."

I did not expect to see "Liam Scales" and "sexiest" in the same sentence today.

Certainly not from the Brodge anyway.

  9. 'We were so exciting to watch' - Rodgerspublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 1 September

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers tells BBC Scotland: "In a lot of attacking moments we were so exciting to watch.

"We didn't start the game great, but once we had the goal disallowed the confidence builds. Overall, attacking-wise very impressive but also keeping that defensive mentality to keep the clean sheet, typified by Kasper [Schmeichel] at the end.

"A fantastic atmosphere, really good performance and I'm delighted with that.

"We expect that pressing, that mentality. Kyogo's goal is a brilliant finish, to guide it with that power was really good. His pressing and movement were sensational today.

"It was a challenge for Callum [McGregor] today, Rangers clearly tried to nullify him but he's so good tactically. He's that tempo-setter for us and to back that up with that strike was superb.

"Liam Scales had a fantastic last season. Sometimes the Scottish or Irish guys might not feel like the sexiest players, but I don't know where we would have been without Liam last year. He again stood up today.

"It's a strong squad and we just need to keep building our performance level.

"It's so early, but I'm pleased with the mentality of the squad. The football and intensity and the speed has been so pleasing."

  11. HALF-TIME Kilmarnock 0-0 Hibernianpublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 1 September

The half-time goes at Rugby Park.

Big tackles, big misses, big saves and not a lot of pure football.

  12. HALF-TIME Hearts 0-0 Dundee Unitedpublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 1 September

An edgy first half comes to a close.

There's been more needle than quality on show.

United have threatened from set-pieces, while Hearts have struggled to create much in the final third.

Both sides look a little blunt.

Malachi Boateng is allowed to drive forward unopposed. He slips in to James Penrice on the left, who drills a brilliant ball across goal... no takers.

    Tynecastle is becoming very frustrated.

  14. 'A goal needed to settle Tynecastle nerves'published at 15:48 British Summer Time 1 September

    Hearts 0-0 Dundee Utd

    Michael Stewart
Former Hearts midfielder on BBC Sportsound

As much as we have spoken about the improvement from Hearts, there has been clear danger signs from Dundee United.

The longer the game goes on that Hearts are not in front, there is going to be nervousness at Tynecastle.

  15. CLOSE!published at 15:48 British Summer Time 1 September

    Kilmarnock 0-0 Hibernian

We've nearly just had goal of the season. In fact, the goal of the decade.

Mykola Kuharevich pulls a half-volley with the outside of his boot from the halfway line, but his audacious effort is tipped over the bar by Kieran O'Hara.

    Almost a ridiculous goal.

  16. Postpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 1 September

    Hearts 0-0 Dundee United

Kevin Holt is off after going down with no-one around him. He's replaced by Vicko Sevelj, who will play the same role.

He is immediately clattered by Lawrence Shankland and there's a lot of pushing and shoving.

Will Ferry was furious, but it looks like a storm in a teacup.

  17. Postpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 1 September

Boyle tries to go under the wall but it doesn't jump.

Not quite the same as last week.

  18. Postpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 1 September

Hibs have a free-kick in a very dangerous area.

Martin Boyle scored one of these last week...

  19. CLOSE!published at 15:37 British Summer Time 1 September

    Hearts 0-0 Dundee United

Hearts almost open the scoreline in fortuitous circumstances.

James Penrice slices one from distance. It takes a huge deflection and loops just wide of the post.

That would have been very lucky.

  20. 'Tynecastle crowd more content'published at 15:36 British Summer Time 1 September

    Hearts 0-0 Dundee Utd

    Brian McLauchlin
    BBC Sport Scotland at Tynecastle

Although it remains goalless at Tynecastle, the home crowd appear to be happier with the change of formation to a back four.

United, though, have looked very dangerous when they fire crosses into the danger area.

    Intriguing game so far.
