Ryan Sessegnon is ready to leave Tottenham on a free transfer this summer.

The 24-year-old winger is keen for a new challenge at a Premier League rival next season and wants to move when his contract expires despite Spurs holding an option to keep him for a further year.

Sessegnon played just once this season, a seven-minute substitute appearance against Burnley in the FA Cup in January, during an injury-hit campaign in North London.

The former England Under-21 international has suffered chronic hamstring problems and has had two surgeries to rebuild his career, the latest coming in February after a setback while playing in an academy match.

But he is nearing his return as he steps up his rehabilitation and is keen to get back playing first-team football.

Spurs will look for a replacement forward to bolster manager Ange Postecoglou’s options next season.

Sessegnon joined Spurs for £25m from Fulham in 2019 after winning the Championship Player of the Year award during the Cottagers’ promotion-winning campaign.

  4. Will Shaw and Chilwell go to the Euros?published at 09:32 British Summer Time 21 May

Before injuries took their toll, it seemed clear that Luke Shaw and Ben Chilwell would be the two men selected to compete for left-back in the England squad.

Shaw has 31 caps for England, scoring three goals - including in the final of the last Euros tournament, just a couple of minutes into the game against Italy at Wembley.

Chilwell, while an unused squad player at Euro 2020, has been a regular in Gareth Southgate's squads with 21 senior caps.

But of course, injuries have been an issue. Shaw is currently struggling with a muscle problem and Chilwell has had a hamstring injury this season. Combined, the pair made only 25 Premier League appearances in 2023-24 (Shaw 12, Chilwell 13).

Paul (07:25) saying that we've no top LB when Shaw is fit is ludicrous. When fit, Shaw is one of the top LB in the Prem. Here's hoping he's fit enough to make the plane.

Tyrick Mitchell has been a regular for Crystal Palace over the past three seasons. The 24-year-old played 37 league matches for the Eagles last term, with Palace keeping 10 clean sheets while he was in the side.

Mitchell made his England debut in a 2–1 win over Switzerland in March, 2022, coming on for Luke Shaw in the 61st minute.

Can’t believe that Tyrick Mitchell has not been mentioned for England’s LB role. Has a cap, been consistent all season, barely missing a game, consistency has been amazing!

    James in York

Surely Tyrick Mitchell of Palace is an obvious left back option. Under Glasner has developed his attacking game too. And he’s an ‘actual’ left back

  8. Southgate to select about 30 playerspublished at 09:16 British Summer Time 21 May

    Alex Howell
    BBC football news reporter

Gareth Southgate will name about 30 players in today’s England training squad ahead of Euro 2024.

This is because England will likely be without about 10 players ahead of their two warm-up games, due to the FA Cup final and the Champions League final.

England will then submit their final squad list, up to 26 players, by midnight of 7 June to Uefa. The FA will then announce the final squad on 8 June.

Some breaking news for you, Birmingham City have announced that Tony Mowbray will stand down as manager with immediate effect.

Mowbray stepped away from his on-site management duties in February before taking a formal medical leave of absence in March.

"He has decided to focus on making a full recovery from his surgery and spending time with his family," say the League One club.

Tino Livramento made 26 league appearances for Newcastle last season. He usually plays right-back, but as Matt says has been known to fill in on the left.

With the 21-year-old in the side the Magpies won 14 league games last term, but only kept one clean sheet. Like Lewis Hall, he has represented England from under-15 to under-21 level.

Was just about to suggest Lewis Hall for left back when Anon beat me to it. Alongside Livramento at right back, the two youngsters have been amongst our best performers at the end of the season.

    Mick from Blyth

Whilst we are suggesting Lewis Hall, what about Livramento? He filled in at LB for multiple games and looked very good.

The initial England squad will be unveiled at 14:00 BST today, followed by manager Gareth Southgate giving a media conference from St. George's Park.

While the final selection for Euro 2024 can contain a maximum of 26 players, Southgate can name more players today for his training squad.

The deadline for Southgate picking the final 26 is June 7.

However, Southgate may announce his final picks before this date - England's pre-tournament friendlies are against Bosnia-Herzegovina on June 3, then against Iceland on June 7.

Whether Southgate names his 26 before the friendlies, or gives fringe players a chance to impress against the Bosnians, remains to be seen.

Dan Burn played 33 times for Newcastle in the Premier League last season.

All the chat about left back and our centre halves appear to be a weak link, why not take Dan Burn? He can play both positions and hasn’t let Newcastle down all season, and he’s awkward to play against and gives an aerial threat, seems a no brainer to me.

Left-back a problem? Southgate's defensive issuespublished at 08:29 British Summer Time 21 May

    Alex Howell
    BBC football news reporter

The left-back area has been one of the problematic positions for Southgate. Newcastle's Kieran Trippier has played there in the biggest England games in recent times. He started the crucial match against Italy at Wembley to secure qualification for the tournament.

If every player was fit, Manchester United's Luke Shaw would be the first-choice left-back, but he has suffered a setback in his recovery from his latest injury.

Ben Chilwell has also struggled with injuries, and the Chelsea player did not totally convince against Brazil and Belgium.

Manchester City’s Rico Lewis won man of the match in his first England start and was called up as an injury replacement in the last international break, while Liverpool's Joe Gomez is another option following a recall afterfour years away last time out.

City's Kyle Walker seems an obvious starter at right-back, while John Stones and Harry Maguire seem the favoured starters at centre-back, with the latter expected to have recovered from injury.

If Southgate is looking for extra defensive options, Bayern Munich's Eric Dier boosted his chances after an impressive loan spell from Spurs. And of course there is the Ben White issue - the Arsenal defender has been a huge part of the Premier League's meanest defence but remains unavailable for selection.

  20. Who should start at left-back for England?published at 08:23 British Summer Time 21 May

I'm liking all this left-back chat. Why don't we streamline our focus for a bit and see who Gareth Southgate may select...

And of course, we will get on to Pickford, Eze, Rashford, Henderson and more later don't worry!
