Rangers are the best-placed British side in the Europa League standings after five of the eight scheduled game weeks.

Philippe Clement's side are eighth, level on 10 points with ninth-placed Tottenham but above them on goal difference.

Remember, the top eight qualify automatically for the last 16, while sides that finish ninth to 24th also progress into the knockout stages but face an extra play-off match. The bottom 12 sides - from 25th to 36th - are eliminated.

Manchester United are 12th, on nine points, after adding a second win to their three previous draws.

It wasn't all smiles for British sides, however.

Veteran defender Mats Hummels snatched a late equaliser for Claudio Ranieri's Roma to frustrate Tottenham in the Europa League.

The 35-year-old former Borussia Dortmund player, featuring in his first European match since the Champions League final in July, gave away a penalty in the fifth minute but made amends in stoppage time, tapping in Angelino's whipped cross.

Son Heung-min turned in the penalty that Hummels gave away to give Spurs the lead.

And while Roma defender Evan N'Dicka equalised, Brennan Johnson struck a good first-time finish from Dejan Kulusevski's cutback to put Tottenham back in front.

The match felt comfortable for Spurs, who could have built a bigger lead, but a flurry of second-half efforts from Roma, including former Manchester City wing-back Angelino hitting a first-time volley onto the bar, were warnings before Hummels' late leveller.

Enzo Maresca says Jadon Sancho is an "important player" who is going to help Chelsea "a lot" after the England winger played a pivotal role in their latest European win.

Sancho marked his first start since 20 October with assists for both goals as the Blues maintained their flawless start in the Conference League with victory over Heidenheim in Germany.

The on-loan signing from Manchester United set up Christopher Nkunku for his fifth goal in four league phase games before teeing up Mykhailo Mudryk with four minutes left.

The result made it four wins out of four to keep Chelsea at the top of the 36-team group with two matches left.

Sancho, 24, has been missing with illness and injury recently, but boss Maresca said: "I said, since we start, Jadon is very important for us.

"He has to be fit, mentally and physically, and he is going to help us a lot. Unfortunately we did not use him in the last few games but he is showing how important he is.

"We need that quality in the last third against a low block. He is going to help us a lot."

Ruthless Rangers delivered a performance that manager Philippe Clement called "close to perfection" and heightened their hopes of Europa League progression with a stunning win in Nice.

The Scottish Premiership side rushed into an unimaginable three-goal lead at half-time to set them on their way to another impressive result on their European travels.

Vaclav Cerny watched his deflected strike wrong-foot goalkeeper Marcin Bulka, before Mohamed Diomande audaciously flicked in a second within three minutes

Hamza Igamane pounced on a dreadful blind back-pass to spark bedlam in the away end with a third before the break.

Igamane intercepted a poor pass from Issiaga Camara before nutmegging the defender and rolling in a fantastic fourth in the second half.

Nice teenager Badredine Bouanani curled in a classy free-kick late on as some sort of consolation.

  11. Man Utd recover to beat Bodo/Glimt for Amorim's first winpublished at 07:13 Greenwich Mean Time

    Europa League

Manchester United scored after just 81 seconds in Ruben Amorim's first game in charge at Ipswich, and it took them just 48 seconds to find the net against Bodo/Glimt in his first match at Old Trafford.

A catastrophic error from goalkeeper Nikita Haikin, who inexplicably allowed Rasmus Hojlund to close him down as he went to make a routine clearance, followed gave Alejandro Garnacho a tap-in.

But rather than pave the way for an easy victory, it was the prelude for a period of frustration for the hosts as Bodo/Glimt turned the game on its head with two goals in four minutes to take the lead with just a quarter of the match gone.

Thankfully for United, Hojlund brought a scream of delight from Amorim with an outstanding finish to pull them level before the break.

And Hojlund won the game when he turned home Manuel Ugarte's cross from close range five minutes into the second period.
