It's sure to be an emotional night down Bermondsey way as Millwall boss Neil Harris prepares to head to the home dugout for the final time.

Legend is an oft-overused term these days but 'Chopper' Harris is the Lions' record goalscorer, managed them for four years until 2019 and returned for his second stint in charge in February.

Millwall were one point above the relegation zone when Harris took over and he went on to steer them to finish 13th in the Championship.

The Lions haven't won in their past four games and saw a nine-game unbeaten run ended by Coventry on Saturday, however they remain six points outside the top six with two games in hand.

The 47-year-old said it was not an easy decision to leave the club - where his contract ran until the end of the season.

"Everyone knows this club is more than a job to me, it's my club, and always will be," Harris said., external

"I always said when I returned that I would leave when the time felt right, and now is that time."

With Sheffield United aiming to return to the top of the table tonight, whatever you do, don't mention parachute payments to Blades boss Chris Wilder.

Wilder claimed suggestions in the media this week that the only reason his side, Leeds and Burnley were leading the race for promotion to the top-flight is the money they are receiving following their recent relegations from the Premier League.

"Absolute nonsense - it's just a lazy, lazy assumption," the 57-year-old told BBC Radio Sheffield when asked about parachute payment talk.

"It's always a cheap shot that people can use.

"I think you've seen the work that we did in the summer: frees, small fees and loans, and we brought some decent figures in as well."

Wilder will pit his wits against Neil Harris for the final time in the Lions dugout tonight, with the Millwall boss set to step down after Saturday's trip to Middlesbrough.

It's a return to the Championship tonight for new Hull City boss Ruben Selles.

The Spaniard will take charge of the Tigers for the first time tonight after joining from League One Reading.

It looks a tough start for Selles as City look to end a run of six straight defeats when they welcome promotion-chasing Watford.

Hull are without a win in their past 11 games, earning only three points in total, since they won three on the spin between 20 September and 1 October - their only three victories so far this season.

He will know only too well how big a job he has on his hands after watching his side lose 1-0 at home to Blackburn on Saturday.

Interim Tigers boss Andy Dawson said the Spaniard has made a good impression since his arrival, so it will be fascinating to see if he can provide the new manager bounce.

Watford boss Tom Cleverley believes Hull City's players will have extra motivation when the two clubs meet tonight.

City will have new head coach Ruben Selles in charge for the first time after he replaced Tim Walter last week.

"I believe in the new manager bounce - it's something which happens in football and in life I suppose when you're trying to impress somebody new, it can certainly get an extra 10% out of the players," Cleverley told his pre-match press conference.

"When I got the job here our results got better and that's not patting me on the back - it's a thing in football and it's our job to put a lid on that."

Watford's match at Cardiff was postponed on Saturday because of Storm Darragh and Cleverley is keen they take advantage of the extra break.

"We've had three days to prepare, so it's been a little bit strange but we have to look like the team who are fresher and it's been a little bit of respite from the playing side of things," he said.

"You go over things from his [Selles] previous club - we played Reading in pre-season with Ruben as their manager and I was impressed with his team and he's a coach I have massive respect for."

  5. Will Cardiff or Preston end winless run?published at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December

    Cardiff v Preston (19:45 GMT)

Cardiff boss Omer RizaImage source, Rex Features

Tonight's clash at the Cardiff City Stadium sees two sides embroiled in a relegation scrap and struggling for wins go head-to-head.

Since a run of six games unbeaten (W4 D2), the Bluebirds have now lost three of their past five (D2) and start the night in the drop zone in 22nd place.

Omer Riza's side haven't kicked a ball in a Championship match since their 2-2 draw at Coventry 12 days ago after their game against Watford at the weekend was postponed.

Preston's winless run stretches back nine games, although they have only lost two of those and drawn four on the bounce, including at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The Lilywhites are just two points above Cardiff and victory for the hosts this evening would see them leapfrog Paul Heckingbottom's men.

  6. Oxford aiming to end away day misery at QPRpublished at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December

QPR have been in decent form in recent weeks with two wins and two draws in their past four games, including an impressive 3-0 victory against Norwich on Saturday, which has lifted them off the bottom and up to 20th.

But head coach Marti Cifuentes has warned "the challenge now becomes even bigger" after their promising turnaround.

"The nature of the human being is to relax when things go well but we want to win against Oxford, it's going to be difficult so we need to keep improving," Cifuentes said in his pre-match press conference.

The Hoops are yet to win two consecutive games in the league this season but will fancy their chances against an Oxford side without a win on the road since their return to the Championship (D2 L6).

The U's have won just one of their past 13 matches (D6 L6), although they did stop a run of three straight defeats by picking up a 1-1 draw at home to Millwall last time out, before their visit to Plymouth was called off.

In what will be a first league meeting between these two sides since 1999, with both tied on 18 points and just one point above the drop, victory for either would give them a little bit of breathing space from the bottom three (for now).

    Championship top

The ding-dong Yorkshire battle at the top of the Championship table shows no signs of letting up.

Leeds leapfrogged back above the Blades on Tuesday night, though Chris Wilder's side could return to the summit with victory at Millwall this evening.

Blackburn took advantage of dropped points by Burnley and Sunderland to close the gap on the top-four, with a game in hand, while Watford will be seeking to join them in the play-off places with victory at lowly Hull City tonight.

West Brom are waiting to pounce on any Hornets slip-up, so long as they can end their drawing run against West Midlands rivals Coventry in the late kick-off.

    Championship bottom

This picture could look very different indeed in a couple of hours time.

We have a couple of absolute humdinger basement battles on the slate for you this evening with Cardiff hosting Preston, having slipped back under the dotted line last night courtesy of Portsmouth's point.

The Bluebirds could overhaul the Lilywhites with a win, while a victory for Hull City over Watford in Ruben Selles' first game in charge could not only see the Tigers bounce straight out of the relegation zone, they could even overhaul one of QPR and Oxford United, who also meet tonight.

As the weather gets colder the basement battle is really starting to heat up at the foot of the table.

For the umpteenth week in a row the Championship lead changed hands once more on Tuesday night as Leeds made it eight straight home wins and returned to the top courtesy of a 3-1 home win over Middlesbrough, who slipped to sixth.

Burnley missed out on the chance to move into the top-two after a stalemate at home to Derby, who ended a run of three straight defeats.

Patrick Roberts salvaged a stoppage-time point for Sunderland at home to Bristol City as the Black Cats also spurned the opportunity to go level on points with second-placed Sheffield United.

Blackburn strengthened their grip on a play-off spot and moved up to fifth thanks to a 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday, their fifth victory in succession.

Elijah Adebayo snatched a dramatic winner for Luton as they came from behind to beat Stoke and climb away from the lower reaches of the table.

Portsmouth moved out of the drop-zone for the first time since September courtesy of a goalless draw at home to Norwich, who slip further off the play-off pace.

Swansea are up to ninth, ahead of the Canaries, after holding on to win 2-1 at Plymouth, who sink to second-bottom.
