An absolute pearler from Angel Hidalgo at the first. He lands it just long but the ball spins back and that looks like a cast-iron birdie.

The birdie machine's picking up where he left off yesterday.

Not so smooth from Adrien Saddier. He pulls his approach and finds the rough.

  2. Opening bogey for McIlroypublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 7 September

    Garcia-Heredia -11, McIlroy -10 (1)

Well well well, that was not in the script.

Rory McIlroy's par attempt slips by on the left and that's a sloppy bogey - his first in 38 holes incidentally.

    He's five back.

Alfredo Garcia-Heredia also drops a shot.

    OH YES!

The crowd at the par-three third erupt as Rafael Cabrera-Bello finds an ace from 184 yards!

A stunning shot, the ball takes one hop and goes straight into the cup.

    Another Spaniard enters the mix.

Rory McIlroy elects to chip his third.

Oooooh, he's a bit bold with that one and it races a good seven feet past.

Putting himself under pressure early. Clumsy.

Adrien Saddier is having a fine season.

He's already tucked away the Italian Open title and he's been extremely impressive this week, hitting plenty of fairways and greens and taking a lot of his chances on the greens.

This is his first 54-hole lead on the DP World Tour. Can he hold his nerve today?

    Garcia-Heredia -12, McIlroy -11

Rory McIlroy starts leaning to the left.

Has he blocked his second shot? Hmmm, only slightly. It lands on the fringe and he'll have an awkward third. He isn't far from the flag, but that's likely going to be a par.

Alfredo Garcia-Heredia does well to find the green from the thick stuff down the right, but with the pin way at the back, he faces a long putt.

One of the hardest things in professional golf is following a low round with another, but that's the challenge facing Angel Hidalgo today.

The fiery Spaniard yelled and fist-pumped his way to a brilliant nine-under 63 on Saturday, a round which included a DP World Tour record-tying 12 birdies.

Hidalgo, whose hopes of setting a new course record were dashed with a double bogey seven on the 16th, said he felt like he was playing the PlayStation at times.

Matching yesterday's 63 will be a tall order, but Hidalgo will not be overawed by the occasion. After all, he stared down Jon Rahm in a play-off last year to win the Spanish Open title.

  8. Early birdie for Lagergrenpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 7 September

    Lagergren -12, Olesen -10 (1)

After a sparkling 62 on Friday, Joakim Lagergren slipped back a bit yesterday with a disappointing 73.

But he's all business early doors today as he picks up an early birdie at the first after a wonderful approach.

    The Swede's three back.

  9. Postpublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 7 September

    Garcia-Heredia -12, McIlroy -11

After a great reception from the soaked fans in the grandstand around the first tee, Rory McIlroy - with wetgear on - whips a three-wood down the middle of the fairway.

The course is wet so there's no run-out.

It's a nervy swing for Alfredo Garcia-Heredia, however, and he looks to have found the trees down the right.

This should be a fun afternoon's golf!

Rory McIlroy cruised around the K Club with a couple of bogey-free rounds on Friday and Saturday.

But after a stirring 66 on Friday, he was left frustrated after managing only four birdies yesterday.

The Masters champion will likely need to go low to win today.

    He's out with Spain's Alfredo Garcia-Heredia again.

The 43-year-old outshone his illustrious playing partner yesterday with a 67, so the world number 472 is certainly not to be discounted as he looks to finally land his first DP World Tour title.

  11. Sunday stroll for Armitagepublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 7 September

    Armitage -8 (64)

Marcus Armitage could probably sell his final round to one of the leaders for a few quid.

Out early, the Englishman needed just 64 blows today. Two eagles, five birdies and a bogey.

Armitage also played the par-five 18th in six under this week. Not too shabby!

The weather has played ball over the last few days, but there's been a few showers already today.

The wetgear and brollies will be out and the course will play longer.

If the wind picks up, this could get very interesting...

McIlroy was pipped to last year's Irish Open title by Rasmus Hojgaard

Last year, Rory McIlroy looked set for an emotional win on home soil at Royal County Down.

Leading by two with four holes to play, McIlroy bogeyed the 17th and missed an eagle putt on the 18th to force a play-off with Denmark's Rasmus Hojgaard, who finished with four birdies in his last five holes to shoot 65 and deny the home favourite.

It was a hugely dramatic day and a bitterly disappointing outcome for McIlroy.

Twelve months on, can he complete a redemptive arc and claim his second Irish Open title?
