  1. Stunning birdie from Brownpublished at 19:46 British Summer Time 20 July

All Dan Brown has to do now is tickle it home - which he does to raucous acclaim from the hardy folks who've stuck around.

    That was a thrilling shot.

As for Shane Lowry, he's gone past the hole but comes back safely for par.

    Day +4 (76), Conners +9 (80)

Jason Day and Corey Conners would both have had hopes of being in the mix by Saturday evening.

However, on moving day they have fallen further behind the leading pack after a day filled with bogeys.

Re Alistair (19:34) - its just the luck of the weather. It could easily go the other way (and has done many times) when the leaders get calm, benign conditions and the early starters battled in a storm...

    Brown -5, Lowry -2 (15)

Shane Lowry's got his ball and isn't holding back as he crunches his second shot down the 16th fairway. Back into position and sizing up 165 yards to the pin.

Safely on to the green but a fair whack from the pin.

Dan Brown is in a little closer with his second shot and goes full at the flag. Oh wow! Unbelievable from the debutant. He'll have four feet for birdie!

    Horschel -5, Rose -4 (16)

Billy Horschel tapped in for par.

Justin Rose puffed his cheeks after his putt for birdie missed by the barest of margins.

    Scheffler -2 (17)

One more to go for Scottie Scheffler, who bashes his drive down the 18th with the usual theatrical dancing feet to finish - his rather loose fitting grey waterproof top flapping around like a superhero's cape as he pounds his driver.

That birdie on 17 was certainly a super human effort.

    Horschel -5, Rose -4 (15)

Billy Horschel finds the bunker with his approach shot to pin at the 16th. The ball is lodged deep into the sand, but he almost pockets it with a quite brilliant shot.

Playing partner Justin Rose is on to the green in three to give himself a birdie chance.

  8. 'Scheffler will feel he hasn't played badly'published at 19:37 British Summer Time 20 July

    Scheffler -2 (17)

    Catriona Matthew
Captain of Team Europe at the 2019 & 2021 Solheim Cup

Scheffler will feel he’s not played that badly.

He’s just had nothing really going for him.

A cold putter and this back nine has been pretty brutal for him this afternoon.

  9. Stunning Scheffler birdiepublished at 19:35 British Summer Time 20 July

    Scheffler -2 (17)

Scottie Scheffler plays an absolute crackerjack on the 17th, the long par three that's 239 yards on the card but playing longer in these conditions.

The world number one though, the best iron player on the planet, reduces it to three feet with a blitzing tee shot.

After the way he's putted today we're still not too confident when he stands over the ball, but he converts this time for the most brilliant of birdies.

    Brown -5, Lowry -2 (15)

It's a long trudge down the par-five 16th for Shane Lowry and Dan Brown but the end of this brutal round is coming into view.

What may be harder to spot is Lowry's ball after he sliced wide into the right-hand rough.

Brown is serenely on the fairway.

Pole position in F1 is always an advantage. Seedings in tennis and other sports are an advantage. Top spot in cricket and football play-offs benefits with a home tie. Being last out for round three when the weather is lousy is no benefit at all.

    Horschel -5, Rose -4 (16)

There's a few breaks in the cloud in the distance as Billy Horschel finds the edge of the rough with his tee shot on the par-five 16th.

He dinks himself back on to the fairway with his second shot.

Justin Rose follows up a big drive with a solid iron down the fairway to leave himself well placed in his approach to the green.

    Schauffele -3 (69)

I'm partly inclined to agree, Dan.

There were a good number of birdie putts left out there by Xander Schauffele who looked imperious at times, despite the weather.

  15. 'Schauffele still my pick for the championship'published at 19:30 British Summer Time 20 July

    Schauffele -3 (69)

    Dan Rapaport
American golf journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

Xander Schauffele is still my pick and I don’t think he will be only two shots off the lead when this is over.

It is playing so difficult into the teeth of the wind and even if it [the lead] is at five under, with this golf course and the conditions in Scotland, it is anybody’s guess.

  16. Lowry bogeys 15published at 19:30 British Summer Time 20 July

    Brown -5, Lowry -2 (15)

    Shane LowryImage source, PA Media

So it proves as Shane Lowry loses yet another shot.

That's four bogeys and a double bogey in eight holes for the 2019 champion.

No such issues for Dan Brown and, indeed, it could have been better if his eight-foot birdie putt had dropped.

  17. Another Scheffler misspublished at 19:29 British Summer Time 20 July

    Scheffler -1 (16)

I think I know where Scottie Scheffler's going after this round - straight to the putting green, as he misses his 12-foot birdie putt on 16, and it's not even close in reality.

The world number one is just hanging on a bit here and will hope to get home without dropping another shot the way he's going.

  18. Postpublished at 19:27 British Summer Time 20 July

    Brown -5, Lowry -3 (14)

We've just seen Xander Schauffele lose a shot due to finding a fairway bunker and it looks like Shane Lowry is going the same way at the brutish 15th.

It's a fearsome wall in front of him and he gets on the green but only with 37 feet to make par.

  19. Schauffele bogey at the lastpublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 20 July

    Cantlay +3 (75), Schauffele -3 (69)

Patrick Cantlay wraps up his round with a long-range birdie attempt that is well judged but just comes up short.

That felt better than the four-over 75 but his race is probably run for tomorrow.

His buddy Xander Schauffele is a couple of feet closer and goes in heavy, skipping it past the hole.

An important bogey putt here and he shows his mettle - that’s been an excellent display from the Californian.

  20. Postpublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 20 July

    Conners +9 (16)

It's been a miserable round for Corey Conners, who began the day at one under after rounds of 71 and 70, but is now well off the pace.

The Canadian has two double bogeys and five bogeys as he approaches the penultimate hole.
