    Horschel -5, Rose -4 (15)

A roar from the crowd at the 15th after a clutch putt from Justin Rose to save par. Altogether more straightforward putt for Billy Horschel, who also confidently sinks for par.

    Cantlay +3, Schauffele -4 (17)

I think Xander Schauffele is playing the percentages there as he finds the putting surface, albeit 33 feet away from the pin.

Even if he doesn’t sink that and drops back another shot, it’s been some round of golf from the US PGA champion.

  3. Postpublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 20 July

    Scheffler -1 (15)

Scottie Scheffler is a pretty long hitter, but even though he's given his second shot on 16 the absolute full beans from 305 yards out he's still 80 yards short.

That was a full-on Scheffler pirouette on that second, with a one-legged spin to finish after the strike..

  4. Postpublished at 19:19 British Summer Time 20 July

    Cantlay +3, Schauffele -4 (17)

A bit of trouble for Xander Schauffele as he dunks his drive into a fairway bunker down 18.

He has to chip out and now needs to navigate 160 yards in two shots to save par.

  5. 'What is going through Lowry's mind?'published at 19:18 British Summer Time 20 July

    Lowry -3 (14)

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live

It has been stressy golf from Lowry ever since he dumped that tee shot into the coffin bunker and it cost him a double bogey at the eighth.

He was down on his haunches with his head under a towel under his umbrella. What is going through his mind?

  6. Lowry slips further backpublished at 19:16 British Summer Time 20 July

    Brown -5, Lowry -3 (14)

    Shane LowryImage source, PA Media

I said Shane Lowry was in good position but he's bodged his effort from the fringe and left a nervy seven-footer for putt.

No, it's missed and another shot drifts by for our second-round leader. He's four over for his round and looks pretty miserable.

Far more bouncy body language from Dan Brown as he gets out of there with a terrific par save.

  7. Battling 71 for Jordanpublished at 19:15 British Summer Time 20 July

    Jordan E (71)

Matthew Jordan has done so much hard work down the stretch but he's missed from six feet on the last to mean he finishes his round on level par - exactly where he started it.

That's a lot of effort to stay on the same score and improve just one place (so far) from the start of the day - but at five shots back he's in touching distance.

  8. Postpublished at 19:13 British Summer Time 20 July

    Brown -5, Lowry -4 (13)

Actually, Dan Brown's got himself a slice of luck here as his ball has landed in a slight gap between two swathes of thick rough.

From the short stuff, he still has to deliver and boy does he, whizzing to within three feet to save par.

    Well played sir.

  9. Postpublished at 19:11 British Summer Time 20 July

    Brown -5, Lowry -4 (13)

Woah, that's way left for Dan Brown at the 14th.

These guys have not played a par three since it all went wrong at the eighth and he's going to have go some to get out a sticky situation here.

Shane Lowry isn't on the green either but putting from the fringe looks considerably easier.

    Cantlay +3, Schauffele -4 (17)

Penultimate hole ticked off and both leave 17 with par on their scorecard.

One more tee shot to handle and then they can escape into the dry.

  11. Another bogey for soaked Schefflerpublished at 19:09 British Summer Time 20 July

    Scheffler -1, Burmester E (15)

That's a Scottie Scheffler blooper that was saw a bit last year but not so much this year - in that he's missed a short par putt from only about three feet to drop another shot.

He walks away looking at the tip of his cap so maybe some rain drops came dripping from his headwear and put him off - but it's not like that's his first putting mistake today...

    Day +3 (16)

Jason Day, who started his round at one under after rounds of 73 and 68, is having a tough time of it on the back nine.

The Australian has hit four bogeys in his past six holes to leave himself well off the pace at Royal Troon.

  13. A day to forget for Koepkapublished at 19:07 British Summer Time 20 July

    Koepka +8 (78)

Brooks Koepka heads to the scorer's hut, where he will sign for a seven-over 78.

No birdies on the card today, but there was a double-bogey seven at the fourth, plus a run of four bogeys in a row between 13 and 16.

  14. Birdies very rarepublished at 19:06 British Summer Time 20 July

    Peter Scrivener
    BBC Sport at Royal Troon

Just three birdies on the back nine between the 10 payers that make up the last five groups out on the course tells a big story.

Sam Burns, the joint clubhouse leader on three under, rolled in three of his own in drier conditions a few hours ago.

This is about as brutal an Open test as you're going to get.

  15. 'Horschel is a magician around the greens'published at 19:06 British Summer Time 20 July

    Horschel -5 (14)

    Graeme Storm
Two-time European Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

That was a great up and down from Billy Horschel because not only did he have to get it up and over this steep lip, but he had to get the distance.

He’s just a magician around the greens.

  16. Postpublished at 19:05 British Summer Time 20 July

    Horschel -5, Rose -4 (14)

"Irons, Irons" shouts a fan with a London accent from the crowd as Billy Horschel chips out a bunker on to the green at the 14th.

Not a piece of advice about his club, but in tribute to his support of West Ham.

Horschel saves par with a confident putt.

  17. Postpublished at 19:03 British Summer Time 20 July

    Cantlay +3, Schauffele -4 (16)

He's best in the field this week for par-three holes but 232 yards into the wind is a gruelling test even for Xander Schauffele.

His ball swoops high but drops prematurely and he'll have to be satisfied with being on the fringe, 66 feet from the pin.

Hes grinning as he follows his ball down the 17th.

  18. Bogey for Brown as Lowry makes parpublished at 19:01 British Summer Time 20 July

    Brown -5, Lowry -4 (13)

Now then, this will test Dan Brown's composure as he sizes up 20 feet to save par on the 13th green.

On its way but it stays up.

Shane Lowry has played this hole well and two-putts from 53 feet to make par.

  19. Postpublished at 18:59 British Summer Time 20 July

    Jordan -1 (17)

The scorecard just says three but Matthew Jordan really had to work hard for that one on the 17th - as he was 30 yards short and wide of the green as this wind really hits hard on the back nine.

Jordan's chip is pretty good, getting it over two bunkers but stopping it 12 feet away - and there's a fist pump after the ball drops in that shows just how tough that was.

  20. First birdie of the day for Cantlaypublished at 18:58 British Summer Time 20 July

    Cantlay +3, Schauffele -4 (16)

    Patrick CantlayImage source, PA Media

A putt finally drops for Patrick Cantlay and he deserves that birdie on the par-five 16th.

Xander Schauffele has 17 feet to follow his mate in and move to five under... but it hangs right and it's a par.

He's going to feel he's left a few shots out there today.
