    Scott -6 (12)

Adam Scott is still threatening to get involved in the bid to rein in Scottie Scheffler.

If his broomstick putter gets warm over the next few holes the Australian cannot be ruled out.

As I type that, a long downhill effort comes up 13 inches shy of the cup. The line looked spot on.

  2. Just a par for the leaderpublished at 21:15 British Summer Time 18 May

    Scheffler -10, Noren -7 (7)

Scottie Scheffler pulled another tee shot on seven, so could only lay-up on the par-five and the hit a safe wedge to about 20 feet.

It's a birdie hole this today and the second easiest on the course, but it's not a putt he can be aggressive with either coming down such a big slope, so he just nurdles one down there and takes a par.

No bounce back birdie for Scheffler this time and he remains over par for his round today.

Alex Noren does get his birdie though after a glorious bunker shot all the way down the hill - so the Swede cuts the gap to just three.

    Finau -5 (10)

Tony Finau's momentum is halted by a bogey on the par-five 10th. He's back to five under.

It seems like whenever any of the challengers gets any sort of roll going, it ends fairly quickly.

    Fitzpatrick -6 (11)

Matt Fitzpatrick is putting for a birdie from the fringe on the 11th but clasps his putter in frustration as that stays right.

Close but no cigar for the Englishman, whose run of birdies comes to an end.

  5. Triple-bogey eight for Rileypublished at 21:08 British Summer Time 18 May

    Riley -3 (7)

Meanwhile, I think that might be Davis Riley's challenge over.

He hits his third on the par-five seventh into the water and eventually taps in for an eight.

  6. Rahm in pursuitpublished at 21:08 British Summer Time 18 May

    Rahm -7 (8)

    Jon RahmImage source, Getty Images

Jon Rahm flies the dance floor at the eighth. The two-time major winner has dug deep so far today making seven consecutive pars but can he put this close and give himself a decent chance of a first birdie of the day?

Of course he can. With a hop and a skip the Spaniard is in to around three feet and then drains his putt.

He is now the man in pursuit of the world number one, three strokes back.

    Vegas -6, Bradley -3 (8)

Back-to-back birdies for Jhonattan Vegas has put the Venezuelan back into the action at six under and in the chasing pack.

  8. Fitzpatrick back in business?published at 21:02 British Summer Time 18 May

    Fitzpatrick -6 (10)

Is Matt Fitzpatrick back in business? He's certainly back in the thick of things after giving himself a look at eagle on the 10th and comfortably collecting a birdie.

The Englishman is in a tie for second.

Has the trophy engraver started yet? A couple more slip-ups from Scottie Scheffler could make this interesting.

  9. Postpublished at 21:01 British Summer Time 18 May

    Scheffler -10 (6)

That bogey on six was a ninth of the week for Scottie Scheffler.

After his previous eight bogeys he responded with a birdie five times.

His 62.5% 'bounce back rate' is the best in the field this week. No other player is at or above .500.

Over the last 30 years, only two players bounced back from bogey (or worse) at least 60% of the time during one PGA Championship (minimum five opportunities): Sergio Garcia (2006 at Medinah, four out of six, 66.7%) and Greg Chalmers (2000 at Valhalla) six out of 10, (60.0%) .

  10. Bogey for Schefflerpublished at 20:59 British Summer Time 18 May

    Scheffler -10, Noren -6 (6)

Not this time for Scottie Scheffler after leaving himself another tough putt for par, this time from nine feet, and it looked in for eight and a half of those feet before just deciding to stay up.

Four shots is the lead and just a sniff of a chance for the chasing pack - although Scheffler usually responds well to dropping shots...

  11. Two more join the party at six under...published at 20:57 British Summer Time 18 May

    DeChambeau -6, Finau -6 (9)

Bryson DeChambeau and Tony Finau make birdies on the ninth and are in the growing group of players at six under.

I said about half an hour ago that Finau was slipping out of contention - please accept my sincere apologies, Tony. Three straight birdies have brought him straight back in the hunt.

  12. 'Demoralising for Noren'published at 20:49 British Summer Time 18 May

    Scheffler -11, Noren -6 (4)

    Oliver Wilson
Former Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Live at Quail Hollow

That's quite demoralising for Alex Noren. It looked like he was going to pick up a shot on Scheffler. Phenomenal putt, just coaxing it down there, just a little more than a foot of break, dead centre. Noren has steadied the nerves but it's not going to help watching that.

  13. Stop it Scottiepublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 18 May

    Scheffler -11, Noren -6 (5)

It's a bit of a dud of a chip from Scottie Scheffler on the fifth green so he's left himself 18 feet to save his par, so it looks like there'll be some hope for the rest of the field as this is a tough one down the hill.

Who are we kidding? This is Scottie Scheffler, people - so of course he just rolls it in with the minimum of fuss.

It was a big putt though, as even Scottie gave a minor fist pump to celebrate...

  14. Riley bogeys the sixthpublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 18 May

    Riley -6 (6)

After that chip-in for birdie on the previous hole, Davis Riley can't repeat the feat from the bunker on the sixth and gives the shot straight back.

  15. Postpublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 18 May

    Rahm -6, SW Kim -3 (6)

That's not coming back and up goes the shout of 'fore left' from Jon Rahm on the seventh. He's in the pines and dirt and can only punch down into the gnarly stuff.

Kim Si-woo who dropped another shot on the sixth is in decent shape down the middle.

  16. If you want some new golf gearpublished at 20:45 British Summer Time 18 May

There's only one colour in season, so if you're getting kitted out for the course, follow the lead of the pros.

This burnt orange has lit up Quail Hollow throughout the four days.

    Thumbs if you're a fan.

  17. Postpublished at 20:44 British Summer Time 18 May

    Scheffler -11, Noren -6 (4)

Bunker off the fifth tee for Scottie Scheffler and then he flies the green with his second and his ball nestles down in the rough just off the back - tough shot coming up.

  18. Postpublished at 20:43 British Summer Time 18 May

    DeChambeau -5 (8)

A shake of the head for Bryson DeChambeau as a birdie attempt from about 12 feet on the short par-four eighth goes begging.

A charge towards the leader has just not materialised.

  19. Birdie for Fitzpatrickpublished at 20:43 British Summer Time 18 May

    Fitzpatrick -5 (9)

    Great golf from Matt Fitzpatrick.

A long approach zips into seven feet and he records only the second birdie of the day on the ninth hole.

  20. Postpublished at 20:41 British Summer Time 18 May

    Fitzpatrick -4 (8)

Another hole ticked off for Matt Fitzpatrick as he pars the eighth. He really needs to pick up a birdie or two over the next three or four holes to perhaps give himself the chance of being the best of the rest, given the way Scottie Scheffler is currently dominating the strongest field in golf.

Could this be a chance? A conservative drive and superb second gives him a birdie chance on the ninth.
