  1. Where did Rahm come from?published at 21:55 British Summer Time 18 May

Line graph showing how Jon Rahm has closed in on Scottie Scheffler

While Scottie Scheffler's engine has been spluttering, Jon Rahm has pressed the accelerator over the past four holes.

    Game on.

  2. Fans flood Quail Hollow’s back ninepublished at 21:54 British Summer Time 18 May

As the leaderboard bunches the race is on to find a vantage point.

Tens of thousands of fans are making their way to the back nine to watch the drama unfold.

This property is huge but there’s hardly a spot to be found. A stunning stage is set for what’s looking more and more like a tension-filled finale.

  3. DeChambeau drops backpublished at 21:54 British Summer Time 18 May

    DeChambeau -5 (13)

A bogey for Bryson DeChambeau on 13 and he's now four off the lead.

We thought Bryson might be the man to charge up the leaderboard, but the challenge to Scottie Scheffler is coming from Jon Rahm...

  4. 'We did not see that coming'published at 21:52 British Summer Time 18 May

    Rahm -9 (11)

    Oliver Wilson
Former Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Live at Quail Hollow

We did not see that coming a couple of hours ago. He [Rahm] has put together a clinical round of golf and he's reeling Scottie in. It's shaping up to be a fantastic back nine.

Every single stat suggests Scottie should be way out in front but golf is just not that straightforward.

  5. Rahm joins Scheffler on top of leaderboardpublished at 21:52 British Summer Time 18 May

    Rahm -9 (11)

Jon Rahm with a mini fist pump on the 11th. A lone shout of 'get in the hole' goes up just as he rolls his ball towards the cup and watches it disappear.

The Spaniard has a share of the lead and is looking the part.

  6. Still Scheffler's to lose?published at 21:48 British Summer Time 18 May

    Scheffler -9 (9)

We did not see that front nine coming from Scottie Scheffler.

So where are you as he makes the turn?

Still think the world number one will see this through?

    Thumbs.

  7. Scrappy Scheffler in reverse gearpublished at 21:47 British Summer Time 18 May

    Scheffler -9, Noren -7 (9)

Scottie Scheffler led the field by three at the start of play, he led Jon Rahm by five - but the Spaniard is currently two under and more surprisingly Scheffler is two over for his front nine.

We thought contenders would come with a challenge, but never thought Scheffler would hit reverse gear and come back towards them.

The world number one isn't the type of character to panic but he must know he has to start picking up some birdies on the back nine.

  8. Postpublished at 21:47 British Summer Time 18 May

    Rahm -8 (10)

Jon Rahm larrups his drive down the 11th straight into the left fairway bunker.

Scottie Scheffler is not quite at the races at the moment. A big couple of shots coming up for the former US Open and Masters winner.

What can he do here? Oh my that is majestic, he's on the green and will be putting for birdie from 15 feet.

  9. 'Very ragged'published at 21:46 British Summer Time 18 May

    Scheffler -9, Noren -7 (9)

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live at Quail Hollow

It's been a very ragged outward half from the world number one. It has opened the door for the chasing pack.

  10. Another bogey means Scheffler leads by onepublished at 21:45 British Summer Time 18 May

    Scheffler -9, Noren -7 (9)

Really scrappy bogey for Scottie Scheffler as he leaves himself 25 feet just to save par - and with a bit of a mud ball too!

It's a great putt actually, but just pulls up short and that another shot gone - meaning the lead has come all the way down to just one!

  11. Rahm closes inpublished at 21:42 British Summer Time 18 May

    Rahm -8 (10)

    Is Scottie Scheffler weakening?

And can Jon Rahm take advantage? Two big questions we'll get the answers to over the next couple of hours.

The Spaniard is in the swale to the left of the par-five 10th playing his third. It looks incredibly difficult but he just chops the legs off his chip and stops it dead less than a foot from the pin.

A birdie is a formality. In it goes.

  12. Postpublished at 21:40 British Summer Time 18 May

    DeChambeau -6 (12)

Bryson DeChambeau hits a monster drive down the 12th and sends his wedge to close range. A birdie, surely?

No it's not, as the putt dribbles off target.

  13. Postpublished at 21:40 British Summer Time 18 May

    Scheffler -10, Noren -7 (8)

Scottie Scheffler, for the umpteenth time today, is in trouble in the left rough and can only hammer the ball out back onto the fairway, but a mile back from the green, about 50 yards or so, on the long ninth.

So he'll need to get that down in two to save par.

  14. Bogey for Fitzpatrickpublished at 21:38 British Summer Time 18 May

    Fitzpatrick -5 (12)

It's never great when you hear that dull sound of ball striking tree and in Matt Fitzpatrick's case it carries his ball back over the cart path to the left of the 12th and bang into trouble.

The Englishman clunks his second forward and can't control his third which goes off the back of the dancefloor.

It's a damage limitation job and it's a bit of a result to file off the green with only a bogey to his name. It's the Englishman's fourth of the day. Just look where he'd be without them on his card.

  15. Scheffler still strugglingpublished at 21:31 British Summer Time 18 May

    Scheffler -10, Noren -7 (8)

    Scottie SchefflerImage source, Getty Images

Another missed chance for Scottie Scheffler as he can only par the eighth - which is the easiest hole on the golf course today, playing half a shot under par and yielding 33 birdies and four eagles.

Luckily for Scheffler, Alex Noren can't add to that birdie tally as he jabs at his putt for a three and it's never anywhere neat going in, so the gap stays at three.

Scheffler needs to start finding some birdies soon though....

  16. Postpublished at 21:27 British Summer Time 18 May

    Scheffler -10, Noren -7 (7)

Another miss wide left off the tee by Scottie Scheffler and his ball sails into the crowd lining the eighth hole.

Luckily for him it's the short par four - just 315 yards today - and he's got a clear view so a realtively simple chip out, but he's not played it too well and left a longer birdie putt that he'd have liked.

  17. 'Would be shocking if Scheffler didn't win'published at 21:25 British Summer Time 18 May

    Schauffele -1 (68)

    Scottie SchefflerImage source, Getty Images

Soon-to-be deposed US PGA champion Xander Schauffele has little doubt where this tournament is heading.

The world number three has been speaking after his three-under 68, his best round of the week, propelled him to a finish at one under par.

"[Scottie Scheffler] just does sort of what - it's cliche - but he does all those small things really well. I played with him, and he didn't hit it great. He finished strong, which he always does, as it gives himself some sort of momentum.

"He goes and practices after his rounds, does his thing with his team, and he rinses and repeats.

"He's in a spot where it would be shocking if he didn't win today."

  18. 'Tough front nine'published at 21:24 British Summer Time 18 May

    Oliver Wilson
Former Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Live at Quail Hollow

It's been a tough front nine for everyone. The wind is gusting so it's shaping up nicely. At least there are three shots separating Scottie Scheffler, Alex Noren and Jon Rahm heading into the back nine. It's kind of exciting.

  19. Postpublished at 21:23 British Summer Time 18 May

    Rahm -7 (9)

    Jon RahmImage source, Getty Images

Jon Rahm is a little right off the ninth tee but recovers as to rap an iron out of the second cut and find the putting surface.

It's a scramble but it's a par, as he takes two putts from 40 feet, the second of which grabs the right of the cut before tumbling in.

  20. Successive birdies for Postonpublished at 21:22 British Summer Time 18 May

    Poston -6 (8)

Holes seven and eight at Quail Hollow can be good scoring opportunities if you get it right and JT Poston has done just that, getting himself back to six under.

A good recovery after dropping shots in three of the first five holes.
