Rory McIlroy should also improve and Jon Rahm has just shown us that he is back in major form with a great run in North Carolina.

So as we celebrate Scheffler's stunning win, we've already got half an eye on what should be a brilliant US Open - so make sure you join us for that next month.

  2. 'Finish a tough pill to swallow' - Rahmpublished at 00:40 British Summer Time 19 May

Jon Rahm put serious pressure on Scottie Scheffler before faltering over the last few holes. He was asked how close today felt to being 'really special' for him:

"It was really close. God, it's been a while since I had that much fun on a golf course, 15 holes. Even the first seven the day where I was swinging well and things weren't happening, but I kept myself in and made the pars that I needed and played really good golf from the 8th to the 15th.

"It's just mistakes around the green. You know, that bunker shot on 18, I thought I landed it where I needed to. It was just softer bounds and a misread and what to say about 15.

"Yeah, the last three holes, it's a tough pill to swallow right now."

On the week as a whole:

"A lot of positive to take from this week. Pretty fresh wound right now. But there's been a lot of good happening this week and a lot of positive feelings to take for the rest of the year."

Scottie Scheffler is the best player in the world right now, but he didn't play like it at times today. Luckily, though, he's one of the toughest players out there when it comes to mentality, and that's what got him through.

"I always try to lean as much as I can on my mind," said Scheffler. "I think that's probably my greatest strength. You know, like today and this week I really just feel like I did just such a good job of staying patient when I wasn't swinging it my best but I hit the shots when I needed to.

"I hit the important shots well this week, and that's why I'm walking away with the trophy.

"This back nine will be one that I remember for a long time. It was a grind out there. I think at one point on the front I maybe had a four or five-shot lead, and making the turn, I think I was tied for the lead.

"So to step up when I needed to the most, I'll remember that for a while."

Bryson DeChambeau speaking to Sky Sports after a one-under round of 70: "It's been a good test of golf. Seemed like it didn't go my way all weekend. Pretty disappointed. Burned a fire in my stomach and made me want to fight harder.

    "I'm a little down, a little frustrated.

"Scottie is playing incredible golf. Hats off to him. He's an incredible golfer and I've got to look forward to figuring out how to get up to his level."

On defending his US Open title: "I like Oakmont a lot. I played well there in 2016 when I'd just turned professional. I'm looking forward to getting back there. Great golf course, bombers' paradise. Hopefully I can play well there again and give myself a good chance."

  6. Who wins more majors?published at 00:28 British Summer Time 19 May

Scottie Scheffler is back in his stride now with a dominant US PGA Championship victory, following on from Rory McIlroy's epic win at the Masters.

It's three majors for Scottie and five for Rory, but who will win more majors in their career?

Thumbs up for Scheffler, down for McIlroy...

More from Scottie Scheffler, the 2025 US PGA champion: "It is tough to put into words what Randy [Smith] means to me. He is a special man and he has taught me everything about the game of golf and this is a pretty cool moment for the both of us. He is family to me.

"I'd describe him as like the fun uncle growing up. I could ask him some stuff I wouldn't maybe ask my dad. He taught me a lot more than just the game of golf."

  8. 'It was a battle out there for four days'published at 00:19 British Summer Time 19 May

Scottie Scheffler speaking after winning the 2025 US PGA Championship: "I kept hitting it left. I knew it was going to be a challenging day. Finishing off a major is always difficult and I did a good job staying patient on the front nine. I didn't play my best stuff but I kept myself in it.

"I stepped up on the back nine and had a really good nine holes and that's about it. Just really proud the way we fought this week. I was battling my swing the first couple of days and I didn't have as good a preparation as I would have hoped to.

"It was a battle out there for four days and Teddy did a really good job to keep me in it and Randy helped me figure stuff out with my swing. It was a real team effort and I am looking forward to celebrating this one."

    Scheffler -11 (71)

He's lifted the trophy twice, but I think it's just hitting Scottie Scheffler now as he drops down to his haunches and wipes a few more tears away from his eyes as his third major title triumph just starts to sink in.

And it was a battle - as much with his own game as with Jon Rahm or Bryson DeChambeau - as despite leading by five at one stage he soon dropped into a share of the lead after a two over par front nine.

He got it together after the turn though, with birdies on 10, 14 and 15 effectively getting him over the line as Rahm faltered.

But oh boy, he had to work so hard for that.

  10. Lifting the lid!published at 00:11 British Summer Time 19 May

He's not the first, and he won't be the last, to lose the lid of the Wanamaker Trophy as Scottie Scheffler hoists it high above his header for a second time, this time with a bit more vigour and the lid comes off!

I think a sharp member of the organising committee managed to catch it though.

Scottie Scheffler becomes the 15th man to win the Masters and US PGA Championship during a playing career.

He joins Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only players during the modern era to win 15 times on the PGA Tour, including three majors, before the age of 29.

More history for Scottie Scheffler, as he's become just the second player in 100 years to win their first three major titles by three shots or more.

The other? The great Seve Ballesteros in 1983, so that's some company he's keeping.

And Scheffler's getting better too - winning the 2022 Masters by three, the 2024 Masters by four and now the US PGA Championship by five!

In his most recent start prior to this week, Scottie Scheffler won the CJ CUP Byron Nelson by eight strokes.

Since 1970, only one player has ever won consecutive PGA Tour appearances, both by at least five strokes.

    Can you guess who?

    Yep, a certain Tiger Woods.

He actually did it twice in 2000 at the Memorial tournament (May won by five) and the US Open (June, won by 15) and in 2007 at the Tour Championship (September, won by eight), followed by the Buick Invitational (February 2008, won by eight).

That is the biggest US PGA win since Rory McIlroy's eight-shot win in 2012.

He slams his cap into the turf, claps his hands together. What a performance from Scottie Scheffler.

He was rocking on the front nine. Maybe it was his caddie Ted Scott who settled him down.

He's a three-time major champion and for the first time the winner of the US PGA.

    Oliver Wilson
Former Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Live at Quail Hollow

From the first hole, it was a rollercoaster for him. He's had good shots, bad shots, world-class shots. But it was just class. Golfers can take a lesson from that. He stayed ultra-patient and executed. He managed to stay out in front, mostly, and then separated from the field.

He maybe didn't have his A-game but it was fantastic to watch.

As the sun sets in North Carolina, Scottie Scheffler sinks his putt to win the 107th US PGA Championship.

Rippling through the Carolina pines, the crowd erupts with chants of “Scottie, Scottie, Scottie!”

Third major clinched, and Quail Hollow’s a cauldron of celebration.

The next Major is the US Open at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania next month then The Open at Royal Portrush in July.

In this sort of form, could Scottie complete the career Grand Slam in Northern Ireland?!
