  1. Bogey for Lipublished at 18:31 British Summer Time

    Li -9 (13)

Well, the jinx strikes again as just after mentioning that Li Haotong had only made one bogey all week he makes one on the very next hole!

And it comes with him missing his par saver from just four feet - the commentator's curse is a strong one....

  2. Westwood's birdie train continuespublished at 18:31 British Summer Time

    Westwood -5 (17)

Yet another birdie for wily veteran Lee Westwood, this time on the 17th. That's six in eight holes!

He has been the hottest player on the course for the 90 minutes and we've not really paid him any attention!

At five under par, he's too far back, but what a performance he's put in.

  3. Postpublished at 18:31 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -13, Fitzpatrick -10 (12)

About 12 feet left for Matt Fitzpatrick to make birdie on the 12th but no, sir. His putt lips out and he pars the hole, as does Scottie Scheffler.

That's a surprise, given the low scoring on this hole throughout today.

  4. Fore!published at 18:29 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -8 (16)

Oh dear, Rory McIlroy just gave that a bit too much on the 17th tee and the result from a faster swing is a slice out to the right, and his ball sails into the crowd!

They've been cheering him along all day and that's how he repays them!

Hard to make birdie from there.

Great scenes around the 16th with crowds 12-15 deep and a packed grandstand behind the green.

They were treated to some short-game wizardry from the Masters champion.

I reckoned 64 was his target and it's still in play.

  6. 'Hatton has driven the ball brilliantly all day'published at 18:28 British Summer Time

    Hatton -9 (13)

    Andrew Murray
Former European Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

Tyrrell Hatton's driven the ball brilliantly well all day, he's hardly missed a shot.

He’s played some really terrific iron shots and these pin positions are difficult to get close to.

He’s given himself opportunities, not quite holed any at this stage, but there’s a lot of golf to play.

  7. Postpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -13, Fitzpatrick -10 (11)

Back to the par-five 12th, where Matt Fitzpatrick has overshot the green in two.

Scottie Scheffler found a fairway bunker off the tee and can only blast it forward about another 100 yards.

The American's third finds the green and, on what is the course's easiest hole, he'll have about 25 feet for a birdie four.

  8. Bogey for Bobpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time

    English -7, MacIntyre -6 (14)

Not a good time for Bob MacIntyre to make a bogey but the 14th has been the most bruising hole at Royal Portrush this week.

He's dropped a shot after finding the greenside bunker and he'll slide a shot further back.

  9. Rose finishes with a flourishpublished at 18:22 British Summer Time

    Rose -5 (68)

Arms aloft, Justin Rose takes the acclaim from the crowd around the 18th green.

He's just finished by putting from off the green fully 48 feet to the hole and the widest of grins splits the 44-year-old's face.

Finishing birdie-birdie gives him a round of -3 and leaves him at five under for the tournament.

Another good day for the veteran who surely will be going to the Ryder Cup in September.

  10. Postpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time

    Hatton -9 (13)

Tyrrell Hatton has holed less than 20 feet of putts in total through his first 13 holes, showing he's regularly been knocking in short ones for par.

Of course, that number is a little lower than it might have been because he holed an approach from about 140 yards for eagle on the seventh.

  11. Solid parpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -8 (16)

That's one heck of a par save from Rory McIlroy for the position he found himself in off the tee, so he keeps just about in touch as he heads to the 17th.

With his power he can lash a drive right down the hill on 17 so you have to think that he needs a birdie here given the way Scottie Scheffler's playing.

  12. Postpublished at 18:18 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -13 Fitzpatrick -10 (11)

    Jonathan Bradley
BBC Sport NI senior journalist at Royal Portrush

That feels like a potentially huge moment in this Open Championship.

You certainly would not have thought Scheffler would gain a stroke on Fitzpatrick after their respective approach shots.

"Boring," someone says with a chuckle in the crowd as the leader makes the stressful look stress-free with that up-and-down for par.

  13. Postpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time

    Hatton -9 (13)

    Hit it, Tyrrell!

It feels like I've written that Hatton has about 25 feet for birdie SO many times today and I can't recall any of them dropping.

His latest attempt from that range on the 13th stops a foot short of the hole.

Hatton is in fourth spot on his own at the moment, four behind Scottie Scheffler.

  14. Brilliantpublished at 18:16 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -8 (15)

Brilliant, just brilliant from Rory McIlroy from the cliff edge at the side of 16, as he bumps into the back of the ball, no follow-through, and judges it to perfection as the ball lands and rolls out pin high and just four feet away.

I've been down that gorge, a lot further down mind you, and you need to have mountain goat abilities to get a good stance to hit a shot like that.

  15. How Scheffler made his movepublished at 18:16 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -13 (11)

Scottie Scheffler's round had been pretty uneventful early on, with six straight pars on the card until he really found his rhythm at the par-five seventh.

  16. Bogey for Fitzpatrick gives Scheffler three-shot leadpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -13, Fitzpatrick -10 (11)

Matt Fitzpatrick will be dropping at least one shot at the 11th. His third from off the front of the green does not go as planned and he's got nearly 60 feet left for par. Then, still five feet left for bogey.

Before then, Scottie Scheffler completes a great up-and-down by sinking a 10-footer for a four.

Fitzpatrick makes his five but Scheffler's lead is now up to three shots.

  17. McIlroy uncovers old ballpublished at 18:14 British Summer Time

McIlroy confused as he unearths a buried ball

There have been a few barely believable moments in Rory McIlroy's round so far - and this was the most unlikely of all.

Our colleague Peter says he lost a ball down the 11th hole earlier this year.

I don't think he drove it the same length as Rory did though...

  18. 'It wasn't what we needed'published at 18:12 British Summer Time

    Fleetwood -3 (69)

Tommy Fleetwood dejectedImage source, Getty Images

Tommy Fleetwood on his third round: "I'm disappointed with the last six holes (four pars and two bogeys). When I walked off the 12th green I was five under for the tournament and I felt like I could be two or three better at that point as well. I had a really good round going and then it was a disappointing finish with a couple of bad shots and mistakes.

"I feel a bit annoyed, disappointed or dejected - whatever way you want to put it. It wasn't a bad round, it just wasn't what we needed."

  19. Short rightpublished at 18:11 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -8 (15)

Hmm, not quite what Rory McIlroy wanted on 16 as he's come up short of the green and into that nasty stuff at the top of that huge canyon that you can see in our video course guide below.

BUT, Matt Fitzpatrick has chipped in from down there this week so, you know....

    Scheffler -13, Fitzpatrick -11 (10)

Matt Fitzpatrick finds trouble off the 11th tee. He's in the left rough with a decent lie, but with the ball about two feet below his feet.

He advances it to the front of the green but there's still a huge amount of work to do for par.

Scottie Scheffler is in the semi-rough to the right of the fairway, but a lot closer than Fitzpatrick. And wow, he's pulled his approach left, into the thick stuff.

Far from routine for either player to make four from here...
