  3. Gotterup 'hung in there like a champ'published at 19:37 British Summer Time

Here's the immediate post-round thoughts of your winner, Chris Gotterup: "I just hung in there tight and tried to keep it together. Today, I knew it was going to be a grind and yesterday was a grind, too.

"Hitting it in the bunker on the first hole, I'm like, uh-oh, here we go. But I held it together really well and then it was so much fun out there.

"This is awesome. I'm not going to be able to keep it together. Amazing. It's all hitting me. It's just so cool. I played really well this week, and I knew today was going to be tough. I hung in there like a champ and finished it off in style."

  4. 'Great week' for happy McIlroypublished at 19:32 British Summer Time

Some more from Rory McIlroy, who maintains it's been a "great week" as he builds up to next week's Open at Royal Portrush.

"I'm really happy with where my game is; the way I played over the weekend; the shots that I hit, how I controlled my ball flight," he said. "It has been a great week. Missing the trophy, that's about it.

"There's no frustration, really. I'm really happy with where everything is. I feel like I've gotten out of this week everything, really, that I wanted."

  6. McIlroy praise for 'solid' Gotteruppublished at 19:27 British Summer Time

While Chris Gotterup deals with his victory admin, Rory McIlroy has been speaking to the media.

The Northern Irishman explained he found it tough to push for birdies down the stretch given the conditions.

"It was pretty windy and it was hard to get the ball super close," he said. "I gave myself plenty of chances coming down the stretch.

"The greens deteriorated as the week went on and just got a little bumpy. I had some putts that felt good but just didn't go in, whether they were mis-reads or poor speed here and there.

"But Chris played a great round of golf. He was so solid. After he got a couple ahead, I just couldn't claw back."

  7. 'Horrific' weekend for defending championpublished at 19:20 British Summer Time

While we get ready to crown the 2025 Scottish Open champion, last year's winner has finished his 72 holes.

Bob MacIntyre has been well out of the picture this week and described his weekend efforts as "horrific". Perhaps a touch strong, but the Scot has failed to break par since the first day.

  8. Gotterup, Hojgaard & Schmid take Open spotspublished at 19:16 British Summer Time

There were three places up for grabs at the Scottish Open for next week's Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

Chris Gotterup and Nicolai Hojgaard were the top two players in the field who hadn't already qualified, so they are both in.

England's Andy Sullivan and Germany's Matti Schmid both finished on six under, but Schmid takes the final spot in Northern Ireland courtesy of his superior world ranking.

The pipes are skirling and the seagulls swarming at The Renaissance Club to hail the winner of the 2025 Scottish Open, Chris Gotterup.

The 25-year-old from Maryland is in his second season on the PGA Tour and had just one win and three top-10 finishes to his name before this week and sat 88th in the FedEx standings.

He's right into his lacrosse, apparently, and attributes his years of playing the ball and stick game to helping his golf swing.

A lesson there for us all, perhaps, given how composed the big fella has looked this week...

Echoes of St Andrews 2022 for Rory McIlroy here.

He was head-to-head with Cam Smith in the final round of The Open back then, but just couldn't get a putt to drop and missed out, and it's been the same in East Lothian today.

The Northern Irishman has posted par on every hole since the 8th and never truly tested Chris Gotterup's mettle. One to rue.

Gotterup wins Scottish Openpublished at 19:02 British Summer Time

    Gotterup -15 (66)

Chris Gotterup takes his time, lines up his ball with the hole and rolls in a three-foot putt for the biggest win of his fledgling career.

A magnificent performance from the 25-year-old American.

Not to be for Rory McIlroy, whose birdie putt slides by.

That's been the story of his day.

Chris Gotterup then, with two putts for the Scottish Open title...

His first effort comes up short - he's not in yet.

  15. Postpublished at 18:53 British Summer Time

    Gotterup -15, McIlroy -13 (17)

From 166 yards and with a stiff breeze at his back, Chris Gotterup finds the middle of the green.

Two putts from there will almost certainly be enough for the title...

Rory McIlroy's approach is closer, but not close enough.

  16. Penge finishes two behind leaderpublished at 18:52 British Summer Time

    Penge -13 (18)

Not the best tee shot from Marco Penge, as his ball catches the rough on the left-hand side at around 320 yards. Fortuitously, the ball pops out into the shorter stuff.

He's able to flight it up to the edge of the green on the right. A birdie is unlikely. He chips nicely towards the pin, and should knock in for par.

A magnificent effort from the 27-year-old.

Chris Gotterup's tee shot at 18 is slightly right, but he'll have a clear shot at the green from there.
