Justin Rose is the clubhouse leader. He's wandering off to the recorders' hut with one final birdie on his splendid card to finish 11 under.

It won't be enough to win it, but it's a good week's work and a wonderful conclusion for the veteran.

    N Hojgaard -11 (14), Rose -11 (63)

There's a newer name up near the top.

A sixth birdie of the day for Nicolai Hojgaard and maybe the best yet - a 45 foot putt at the par-three 14th.

He's tied fourth, sitting alongside Justin Rose who has just finished, carding a 63 without dropping a shot.

Perhaps a little too late, but what a day for the veteran.

  3. Fitpatrick catching firepublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 13 July

    M Fitzpatrick -13, Penge -11 (11)

Two shouts of "fore right!" as Marco Penge takes on the 11th. He's taking the scenic route.

His chip is decent, but rolls back a little down the hill. His par putt trickles wide and he drops back for the first time in a while.

Matt Fitzpatrick is bang in the middle of the fairway. From 147 yards, he floats it nice and close. Classy, and a big birdie chance.

    Which he takes!

The huge throng of fans following this lead group mean every nook and cranny of space is occupied to get a view of the action.

Binoculars are a popular accessory - birdie watching the pastime of choice.

  5. Gotterup seizes initiativepublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 13 July

    McIlroy -13, Gotterup -14 (10)

Rory McIlroy's birdie putt just runs out of pace and misses on the low side, leaving an opportunity for Chris Gotterup.

The American pounces, draining his own birdie putt and moving clear at the summit.

  6. Postpublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 13 July

    McIlroy -13, Gotterup -13 (9)

Chris Gotterup stiffs a wedge shot to a few feet, putting the pressure back on playing partner Rory McIlroy.

And McIlroy answers - he's a wee bit further away, but will fancy a birdie himself.

Is it now one of four to win this thing?

Rory McIlroy, Chris Gotterup, Marco Penge and Matt Fitzpatrick look like the ones in the frame as others either fall away or are running out of holes.

  8. Fitzpatrick and Penge move closerpublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 13 July

    Penge -12, M Fitzpatrick -12 (10)

Great shot into the heart of the green by Matt Fitzpatrick. And he follows it with a 34 foot putt!

He eagled the 10th yesterday and he's done it again today to play himself right into contention.

Marco Penge had to work harder. His second shot had him in the rough to the left of the green, but he put himself close with his up-and-down and was able to birdie.

  9. Postpublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 13 July

    Scheffler -8 (13)

Scottie Scheffler is trying to have an argument with Mother Nature.

The American's birdie putt at 13 fails to break how he thinks it should and he stands with his arms spread wide, chuntering away to himself.

Not totally sure what he's annoyed at.

    Schauffele -9 (15)

And another birdie for Xander Schauffele, his fifth of the day.

He's four back with holes running out but the cream is rising the to top here, with fellow major winners Justin Rose, Matt Fitzpatrick, Scottie Scheffler and Adam Scott all on the leaderboard.

  11. The real test beginspublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 13 July

The front nine is playing significantly easier than the back nine this week, so the biggest challenge is coming up for the names at the top.

The field have been 319 under on the first nine holes and 294 over on the second nine.

  12. How are the nerves, Chris?published at 16:30 British Summer Time 13 July

How do you think you'd be feeling if you were going into the back nine, playing alongside Rory McIlroy, with £1.2m at stake?

Making regular use of the on-course facilities, one might think.

Not Chris Gotterup, though. The American is just ambling along nicely and keeping pace with one the game's greats. Good on you, young man.

  13. Postpublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 13 July

    McIlroy -13, Gotterup -13 (9)

A long birdie putt from Chris Gotterup misses left of the hole, but that was a great effort.

Rory McIlroy has 12ft for his birdie, but misreads the break slightly and also makes par.

    As you were.

    Straka -8 (11)

Sepp Straka has just made a double bogey at the 11th after failing to get out of a greenside bunker at the first time of asking.

    That might end his chances.

Nico Echavarria has just won himself a swanky new motor with that hole-in-one. Gonna be a long drive home for the Colombian...

He's already in field for Portrush next week, which is a more managable drive. Mind you, sounds like the ferries are booked out already.

  16. 🚨Hole in one! 🚨published at 16:21 British Summer Time 13 July

    Echavarria -5 (15*)

    Wow!

From 120 yards at the par-three sixth, Nico Echavarria holes out.

The Colombian has a big smile on his face as he walks to the green and rightly so.

  17. Knapp drops out of contentionpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 13 July

    Knapp -8 (9)

Jake Knapp is in trouble on the par-three ninth. His tee shot went way right, landing behind the bunkers in the rough.

The American compounded the error, watching his chip roll back down the hill.

His bogey putt rolls just wide, and it's a double bogey. From fourth to tenth.

Three shots back to five. That will be that for him.

    News travels fast round here.

A roar erupts from the distance and you just know it means Rory McIlroy has done something special.

  19. Birdies for leaderspublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 13 July

    McIlroy -13, Gotterup -13, Clark -9 (*)

Rory McIlroy is pouring in putts from everywhere just now.

This one is never anywhere but the heart of the hole and he climbs to 13 under.

Chris Gotterup holds his nerve to join him at that marker, while Wyndham Clark makes it three birdies for the final group.

  20. Straka misses chancepublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 13 July

    Straka -10 (10)

Pars all round for the penultimate group. Everyone is keeping up with the pace at the moment.

Ahead of them on the 10th, Sepp Straka puts it within six feet for a birdie look. It looks good... then squirts wide at the last millisecond. That fooled a few! Only a par.

The groups behind will all be waiting for their chance on 10th, the easiest hole on the course.
