  1. Bogey for Spaunpublished at 00:28 British Summer Time 16 June

    Hovland +3, Spaun +1 (15)

JJ Spaun zips his third into 12 feet. It's a nervy, testy, downhill putt for par...and he misses.

The American drops back into a four-way tie for the lead.

Viktor Hovland can't get his putter going to save his par. Another shot goes awry.

  2. No birdie for Hattonpublished at 00:27 British Summer Time 16 June

    Hatton +1, Ortiz +3 (16)

A huge putt for Tyrrell Hatton on the 16th.

No! It's shy of pace and dribbles off to the left.

It's a disappointing par and he moves on to the birdie-able par-four 17th.

  3. Postpublished at 00:25 British Summer Time 16 June

    Young +3 (17)

Cameron Young has a long eagle putt on 17 that doesn't quite make it, but the birdie is easy enough and that takes him to three over with one hole left to play.

Young is yet to win on the PGA Tour, so a victory here would be remarkable, but not unique, as Ernie Els, Angel Cabrera and even Jack Nicklaus won their first ever PGA Tour events at the US Open at Oakmont down the years.

  4. MacIntyre closing inpublished at 00:23 British Summer Time 16 June

    MacIntyre +1 (17)

Bob MacIntyre taps in for birdie and moves within one shot of the leader and JJ Spaun is in trouble on the 15th.

A left-handed player has never won the US Open. Is he about to change that statistic?

Scotland's MacIntyre has one hole to play. What he would give for a birdie here.

  5. Big miss by Burnspublished at 00:21 British Summer Time 16 June

    Burns +1, Scott +2 (14)

Sam Burns misses a huge birdie chance to get back to level par, as he stays where he is which is a shot behind leader JJ Spaun.

Adam Scott can't get himself out of jail with his putter so the Australian drops a shot.

  6. Postpublished at 00:21 British Summer Time 16 June

    Hovland +2, Spaun E (14)

That's poor. JJ Spaun is attempting to lay up with an eight iron. His lie is not that bad but he pushes his effort right into the rough.

    Is he feeling the pressure?

  7. Hatton sets up birdie chance at 16published at 00:21 British Summer Time 16 June

    Hatton +1, Ortiz +3 (15)

Tyrrell Hatton has reached the long par-three 16th. All 244 yards of it.

Oh my word, what a shot! A dart from the Englishman to about 10 feet and a glorious chance for birdie coming up.

Amidst the carnage of a US Open Sunday, that is a truly remarkable belt with a long iron.

  8. Postpublished at 00:19 British Summer Time 16 June

    MacIntyre +2 (16)

Bob MacIntyre is pleading for his ball to travel on the 17th. The Scot has found a brilliant line but the softened fairway does him no favours as ball stops sharply.

The 28-year-old left hander will be putting from there and executes that wonderfully well to get into four feet. Big birdie chance incoming.

  9. Closing bogey for Schefflerpublished at 00:18 British Summer Time 16 June

    Scheffler +4 (70)

A disappointing end to a disappointing day for Scottie Scheffler, as the world number one joins Jon Rahm in the clubhouse lead at four over.

He had so many chances to improve on that score though and he'll be cursing his putter again that has cost him a huge chance of winning another major.

As this one is wide open.

  10. Par for Hatton but Ortiz drops backpublished at 00:18 British Summer Time 16 June

    Hatton +1, Ortiz +3 (15)

Tyrrell Hatton scares the hole from 80 feet! A stupendous effort, and he duly rolls in the par putt to maintain his position. Well played.

Carlos Ortiz has a must-make putt for bogey. No, it slides past on the right and he drops back to three over. A long way back for the Mexican now.

  11. Postpublished at 00:16 British Summer Time 16 June

    Hovland +2, Spaun E (14)

JJ Spaun is left off the tee on the 15th and short of the fairway bunkers, along with Viktor Hovland.

Both could be struggling to reach the green here with well over 200 yards to the pin.

  12. Postpublished at 00:15 British Summer Time 16 June

    Burns +1, Scott +1 (12)

I said it was an impossible shot for Adam Scott, and it was, as he managed to escape the fairway bunker but only advanced it a few yards and has yet another hack out of the rough.

He does well with his third to find the back of the green so he'll have an outside chance of making an unlikely par.

  13. Postpublished at 00:13 British Summer Time 16 June

    Ortiz +1, Hatton +1 (14)

Carlos Ortiz loses his balance as he sends his third towards the green at the 15th.

That's unlucky - his ball takes a wickedly firm bounce just beyond the flag and is buried in the rough on the short side.

Staring a double in the face now.

  14. Scott in more troublepublished at 00:12 British Summer Time 16 June

    Burns +1, Scott +1 (12)

More trouble for Adam Scott who misses yet another fairway - and managed to find the front edge of the bunker, semi-plugged and right up against the face.

    An impossible shot.

Sam Burns hits a fairway but finds a divot. He also finds the bottom of the ball with his club when he plays his second though, and finds green with a bit of spin to leave a tasty birdie putt.

  15. Spaun hits the frontpublished at 00:11 British Summer Time 16 June

    Hovland +2, Spaun E (14)

    JJ Spaun take a bow.

All that bad luck from early in the round is now forgotten as he tickles in a putt from 22 feet to become the sole leader with four holes remaining and the momentum firmly with him.

  16. Postpublished at 00:09 British Summer Time 16 June

    Ortiz +1, Hatton +1 (14)

Tyrrell Hatton and Carlos Ortiz, two of our five (!) leaders, have both missed the fairway at the 503-yard par-four 15th.

Ortiz hacks out and will have a wedge in for his third.

Hatton is only in the first cut though so he'll have a measure of control. Ooooh, it just about carries the bunker to the right of the green and he'll have a mammoth putt across the wet surface for an unlikely birdie.

  17. Postpublished at 00:07 British Summer Time 16 June

    MacIntyre +2 (15)

    Richard Winton
    BBC Sport Scotland

What was it that Colin Montgomerie said about Bob MacIntyre at the start of the week?

“He definitely has the game. He's good enough to win,” the former European Ryder Cup captain said of his fellow Scot.

On a final day with more than a hint of Carnoustie 1999 about it, could MacIntyre do what Paul Lawrie did that day?

  18. Scheffler stumbles at the lastpublished at 00:07 British Summer Time 16 June

    Scheffler +3 (17)

Nope, Scottie Scheffler's not in this at all now... Spraying his tee shot wide right into the rough, then having to just chop it out back across the fairway and into the first cut.

Still with 170 yards to go with his third shot.

  19. Postpublished at 00:07 British Summer Time 16 June

    MacIntyre +2 (15)

Bob MacIntyre is wayward off the tee on the 15th and then lands his second right of the dance floor.

His putter is working perfectly mind and he tidies up to make a scrambling par after running eight feet past.

  20. Postpublished at 00:04 British Summer Time 16 June

    Burns +1, Scott +1 (11)

Some nerve from Sam Burns to play an almost flop shot out of this rough off the edge of the 13th green. He pulls it off too so will have a tap in for par, which he makes with ease.
