  1. Birdie for Schefflerpublished at 00:01 British Summer Time 16 June

    Scheffler +3 (17)

Scottie Scheffler makes a birdie three at the 17th, and do you know what? After missing putt after putt after putt, the world number one is still in this!

He's just two shots off the lead now but only has one hole left to play. Now, if he can get a three at the 18th then that'll really throw the cat amongst the pigeons.

  2. Postpublished at 00:00 British Summer Time 16 June

    Hovland +2, Spaun +1 (13)

Viktor Hovland has not got anything going today with just one birdie on his card. A par isn't the worst result on the 13th but his playing partner JJ Spaun has a putt to move to level par and the outright lead...

The American likes this but it veers right at the last and his knees buckle in disappointment.

  3. Pars for Hatton and Ortizpublished at 23:59 British Summer Time 15 June

    Ortiz +1, Hatton +1 (14)

Carlos Ortiz and Tyrrell Hatton both do well to hack their second shots out of the rough on to the 14th green.

Ortiz first. Woah - it only needed one more roll! So unfortunate, but he has a big smile on his face. He's loving this.

Now Hatton. From 50 feet. He does well to get it there, but it keeps drifting to the left and he has a knee-knocker for par.

This is huge. But he pours it in! Four holes left for the Englishman. The biggest four of his life.

  4. Another big miss from Burnspublished at 23:57 British Summer Time 15 June

    Burns +1, Scott +1 (11)

Sam Burns, one of the best putters on the PGA Tour misses his par attempt from just six feet on the 12th as he drops another shot - and drops out of the outright lead into a five-way tie at the top of the US Open leaderboard!

  5. Postpublished at 23:50 British Summer Time 15 June

    Ortiz +1, Hatton +1 (13)

The short par-four 14th has been a birdie hole all week, but Tyrrell Hatton and Carlos Ortiz both leak their drives to the right and find the thick stuff.

Short second shots, but hellishly difficult out of that rough.

  6. MacIntyre in the mixpublished at 23:50 British Summer Time 15 June

    MacIntyre +2 (14)

Bob MacIntyre zips into eight feet on the par-four 14th and tickles in his birdie putt.

This feel like it could be anyone’s to win at the moment.

Could he become the first Scottish golfer to win a major championship since Paul Lawrie, who won the Open Championship in 1999?

  7. Spaun makes long-range birdie puttpublished at 23:46 British Summer Time 15 June

    Hovland +2, Spaun +1 (12)

JJ Spaun is in the wispy stuff down the right on the par-five 12th. He tries to feed his third on to the putting surface and succeeds, just. Long putt to come that I would not even describe as a birdie opportunity.

Except it is, with the American tapping a downhill putt and watching it wander into the hole from 40 feet. Wow.

Lady luck was certainly not shining on the 34-year-old in the opening few holes but could that be a huge turning point?

Meanwhile, Viktor Hovland hangs up his second towards the back of the green, hoping to spin it back down towards the pin, not enough gas. Two putts and par it is.

  8. Postpublished at 23:46 British Summer Time 15 June

    Burns E, Scott +1 (11)

This is tough now! This 640-yard par five is an absolute monster in these conditions so it's a true three-shotter now.

Adam Scott missed the fairway so he again has to use his brute strength just to find a fairway, which he does nicely so will have the chance to try and get an approach close.

    Hatton +1 (13)

    Trish Johnson
Former Europe Solheim Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

    Tyrrell Hatton is gutsy.

He's won plenty of events and he loves it.

I don't expect him to go away.

  10. Hatton moves one backpublished at 23:43 British Summer Time 15 June

    Ortiz +1, Hatton +1 (13)

Carlos Ortiz's shot into the 13th wasn't nearly as spectacular as Tyrrell Hatton's, but the Mexican - who looks as good as anyone right now - does well to lag his birdie effort up to kick-in distance.

Now. Hatton for birdie. He makes it! The Englishman is only one back!

  11. Par for Schefflerpublished at 23:42 British Summer Time 15 June

    Scheffler +4 (16)

Scottie Scheffler knocks in a brave par putt on 16 to remain at four over, which is now just four off the top with the leaders backpeddling quickly.

If he could somehow finish birdie-birdie that could give him a great chance you know.

  12. Postpublished at 23:41 British Summer Time 15 June

    Iain Carter
    BBC golf correspondent at Oakmont

The rain is now holding off again and there are no weather warnings in place at this stage.

Hopefully we can get this finished today.

  13. Hatton goes flag-hunting!published at 23:41 British Summer Time 15 June

    Ortiz +1, Hatton +2 (12)

Tyrrell Hatton produces a stunning approach to the par-three 13th! It's all over it and he'll have no more than four feet for a precious two to move within one of Sam Burns.

  14. Double bogey for leader Burnspublished at 23:39 British Summer Time 15 June

    Burns E, Scott +1 (11)

Oh wow, that was calamity for Sam Burns - firstly to miss the green well short, then to bomb his escape from the rough way past the green, and then not the best chip either.

Burns can only two-putt from there for a double bogey and he drops back to level - meaning there's nobody in the US Open that's under par right now.

And Burns only leads by one...

  15. Postpublished at 23:39 British Summer Time 15 June

    Rahm +4 (67)

The lowest scores on the back nine today have come from Taylor Pendrith (31), Jon Rahm (32), Andrew Novak (32), Rory McIlroy (33) and Hideki Matsuyama (33).

With nobody on the course currently under par it begs the question, what price is clubhouse leader Rahm with the bookmakers again?

    Apparently he's 275/1.

  16. Pars for Hatton and Ortizpublished at 23:38 British Summer Time 15 June

    Hatton +2, Ortiz +1 (12)

Ohhh, that's unlucky - Hatton's uphill birdie putt is brilliantly judged and burns the right edge of the cup.

Can Ortiz make his? No, he over-reads it and it misses high and left.

A couple of disappointing pars, but there aren't many birdies out there at the moment to be fair!

  17. Bogey for Scottpublished at 23:37 British Summer Time 15 June

    Burns -2, Scott +1 (11)

Right, let's try this again lads. Adam Scott chips his effort out this time but leaves himself 12 feet for a bogey.

Which he gets! That's a great bogey putt in the end after back-to-back errors threatened to derail his challenge completely.

Just the one shot dropped for the Aussie.

  18. Postpublished at 23:34 British Summer Time 15 June

    Hatton +2, Ortiz +1 (11)

Tyrrell Hatton, from 147 yards at the 12th. He pushes it slightly and will have 26 feet left for a much-needed birdie four.

Carlos Ortiz only has 103 yards in but he can't scare the pin either and will have the same distance as the Englishman.

    Not their best efforts.

  19. Carnagepublished at 23:34 British Summer Time 15 June

    Burns -2, Scott E (10)

That was always likely to happen for Adam Scott on such a steep downslope, as he just chunks his effort into the rough just in front of him.

Sam Burns responds by air mailing the green totally with his effort on a huge upslope!

    This is just carnage now.

  20. Postpublished at 23:27 British Summer Time 15 June

    Hovland +2, Spaun +2 (11)

Viktor Hovland lasers an iron into the 11th and looks to be putting from around 15 feet for a birdie.

How he would like this to drop...the pace is fine but the line is off and that stays a couple of inches right of the cup.

JJ Spaun is putting from downtown for a birdie and ends up having to drop in a tricky five footer to save his par.
