  1. Leaders in troublepublished at 23:27 British Summer Time 15 June

    Burns -2, Scott E (10)

Sam Burns comes up short of the 11th green, and that means trouble as there's a big bunker there - however, his ball has jammed into the grassy bank just above the sand trap.

I'm not even sure what stance he'll have with that, he'll need to be a mountain goat to balance on that steep slope.

After Burns goes short, Adam Scott goes long, way long, and he's stuck on the downslope of a grassy knoll facing an almost impossible shot next to try and stop this on the green.

    Problems here.

    Hatton +2, Ortiz +1 (11)

This par-five is nowhere near reachable in these conditions, but Carlos Ortiz gives his second the full treatment anyway.

He keeps it in the short stuff, too, so he's definitely thinking back-to-back birdies now.

Tyrrell Hatton smacks his second up to wedge distance, too. The Englishman must be as aggressive as he can be down the closing stretch with Sam Burns not coming back to the field just yet.

    Burns -2 (10)

    Trish Johnson
Former Europe Solheim Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Sam Burns has got to be thinking: 'Get one more birdie and no-one is catching me at three under."

He can be aggressive - not stupid - and rather than play defensive golf, he can go out and make sure he wins this golf tournament.

Still plenty of spectators at Oakmont taking it all in - even in these conditions.

  5. Postpublished at 23:19 British Summer Time 15 June

    Hatton +2, Ortiz +1 (11)

Tyrrell Hatton and Carlos Ortiz both find the fairway on the par-five 12th, which is an absolute brute at a soaking 640 yards.

  6. Postpublished at 23:18 British Summer Time 15 June

    MacIntyre +3

Bob MacIntyre pars his third straight hole on the 12th.

The Scot is playing in rain-soaked conditions more like Oban than what you'd expect at Oakmont and now lashes his tee shot on to the putting surface at the 13th.

If he can get anything going down this final stretch of holes all is not lost.

  7. First birdie for Burnspublished at 23:16 British Summer Time 15 June

    Burns -2, Scott E (10)

A first birdie of the day for leader Sam Burns takes two shots clear

It's only two shots though because Adam Scott's magnificent birdie putt from outside 40 feet pulled up a roll short of dropping into the cup.

Scott has scared the hole a couple of times from distance today - will those near misses cost him the US Open?

  8. Wallace finishes in stylepublished at 23:15 British Summer Time 15 June

    Wallace +8 (73)

Huge cheers reverberate around the 18th green as England's Matt Wallace buries a 31-footer to finish with a birdie.

His face shines with joy and he holds a finger up as if to say: "I made one!"

    That's enough for a three-over 73 and +8 for the tournament.

And a chance to escape the elements.

  9. Ortiz moves within twopublished at 23:13 British Summer Time 15 June

    Hatton +2, Ortiz +1 (10)

Tyrrell Hatton judges the slope on the 11th green masterfully and that's a tap-in par. No drama.

Carlos Ortiz rolls in his birdie putt - his first of the day! The Mexican is only two back.

  10. Postpublished at 23:11 British Summer Time 15 June

    Burns -1, Scott E (9)

Sam Burns fires in a lovely looking shot into the 10th green to leave around 10 feet for a birdie - as the rain starts lashing down again at Oakmont.

  11. Postpublished at 23:09 British Summer Time 15 June

    Hatton +2, Ortiz +2 (10)

Carlos Ortiz hits a pearler into the green at the par-four 11th! Lovely spin control, too, so the Mexican will have a great look at a birdie from seven feet to get back to +1.

Tyrrell Hatton only has 126 yards in but he is in between clubs and pulls it to the left. Still on the green but a long way from the hole. He's furious.

  12. Postpublished at 23:09 British Summer Time 15 June

    Hovland +2, Spaun +2 (10)

Viktor Hovland snaps his bogey, bogey run with a perfectly judged putt to gimme range.

JJ Spaun's putt has a little less break on it and it's another effort steered into around a foot. The American is yet to even finish in the top 20 in a major.

  13. Postpublished at 23:08 British Summer Time 15 June

    Scheffler +4 (14)

Scottie Scheffler's looked a lot better putting from 30 feet the last two holes than he has most of the day from around 10 feet, as he's not a million miles away on both occasions.

He's made absolutely nothing on the greens this week though, which considering that he's still in T8 and just five shots off the lead means it has likely cost him the chance of another major.

  14. Postpublished at 23:08 British Summer Time 15 June

The leading four players are +14 through the front nine.

Oakmont is making mincemeat of them.

A halfway check-in and those rounds have all taken the same trajectory.

Sam Burns has remained in front throughout but they all just keep falling.

  16. Par for Scott cuts lead to onepublished at 23:05 British Summer Time 15 June

    Burns -1, Scott E (8)

Nice chip out of the cabbage by Adam Scott who then rolls in his putt for par - but Sam Burns can't chip in to save his par so he now drops a shot.

The lead is back to one - does anybody want to win this?

  17. Postpublished at 23:05 British Summer Time 15 June

    Hovland +2, Spaun +2 (9)

Viktor Hovland is fuming and shouts "come on" after tugging his approach to the 10th left.

He's on the dance floor but is miles left of the pin that is tucked away on the right side of the green.

JJ Spaun also goes left but is inside the ball of his playing partner and should get a read on the putt.

  18. Hatton drops backpublished at 23:00 British Summer Time 15 June

    Hatton +2, Ortiz +2 (10)

Tyrrell Hatton scares the hole with his par effort on 10 but it stays above ground and that's his first bogey since the first.

Disappointing, too, after the impressive sand save on the ninth.

    Four adrift of Burns now.

  19. Splash landingspublished at 22:59 British Summer Time 15 June

    Hovland +2, Spaun +2 (9)

There's a splash landing for JJ Spaun's drive down the 10th fairway. Normally that would rumble on 20 or 30 yards. Absolutely nowt doing today.

Viktor Hovland is up next and it is a similar story.

  20. Postpublished at 22:59 British Summer Time 15 June

    Burns -2, Scott E (8)

It's a violent swing Adam Scott has at the ball out of the rough from 160 out, and although the ball comes flying out it lands just short in the rough around the green.

Sam Burns attacks the flag with his third from 115 but although it lands close it has an outrageous amount of spin on and zips backwards onto the fringe.

I bet the players never thought getting too much spin would be a problem at Oakmont this week!
