By tomorrow, I mean, straight after midnight when we'll all still be rattling through this monster of a golf tournament.

It does mean we're in for a pretty late one.

The final group have still got 11 holes to navigate. Call it two-and-a-half hours from 10:45pm.

And that's without the need for a play-off.

  2. Postpublished at 21:58 British Summer Time 15 June

The TV pictures have just told us we'll be having play again.

    In 45 minutes.

Which is good - as I'm busy tomorrow...

  4. A soggy storypublished at 21:51 British Summer Time 15 June

The grounds staff are out with the industrial mops trying to remove the standing water from around Oakmont - which took a soaking just before US Open week began so the ground was already pretty soggy, hence why the water appeared so quickly.

  5. What difference will the rain make?published at 21:42 British Summer Time 15 June

You can probably be a little bit more aggressive knowing it won't release as much.

But if you miss a fairway, with that rough getting thicker and thicker, it'll make them almost unplayable.

The front nine is the hardest half. If Sam Burns can navigate holes eight and nine in level par, he will be in a great position.

    Schauffele +6 (69)

Oh and I went far too early on Xander Schauffele's proud finish record disappearing.

Oakmont has bitten the players who were above him and now his finishing score of +6 puts him in a massive tie for 14th.

Which would keep his streak of always finishing in the top 15 at the US Open intact. And this is his ninth US Open. Yet to win it though.

We've just had a warning to take shelter and that the golf course is being evacuated.

It means we're in for a much longer delay as a result.

Line graph showing the way the round has gone

I feel bad removing JJ Spaun from this graph but when you're five over through eight holes, it's the only logical decision.

In comes Tyrrell Hatton who bogeyed the first hole but erased that and has hung tough at one over par.

As he chews on his energy bar (or whatever he decides to eat), he'll know the lead is in touching distance.

    US Open

Here's the state of play right now, with just two players under par and plenty of struggles around Oakmont so far.

Tyrrell Hatton, Robert MacIntyre and Emiliano Grillo are the only ones still playing that are level par for their rounds, with the rest all over par.

  12. On the bright side...published at 21:13 British Summer Time 15 June

The positive news is that spectators aren't being ushered off the course so officials aren't expecting thunderstorms to be an issue.

Players are heading back to the clubhouse where they'll dry off a bit and no doubt grab some food and just regroup a bit after most of them have been taking a beating from Oakmont all day.

  13. Rain delay at Oakmontpublished at 21:09 British Summer Time 15 June

They were some heavy, heavy clouds building up above Oakmont and once they burst and dumps a torrent of rain on the course then the puddles soon started to build.

There's no sign of lightning thankfully, which is the real danger to both players and spectators, so hopefully the delay will not be that long.

But the greens just aren't playable at the moment with standing water covering a few of them.

The players are not being evacuated from the course. That is encouraging.

But look at that 14th green - it's flooded.

It should drain pretty quickly... once it stops raining.

  15. There's the horn!published at 21:03 British Summer Time 15 June

The loud air horn goes off around Oakmont as play is suspended due to 'dangerous conditions' as is the official line.

The rain is absolutely belting it down and there's standing water sitting across a number of greens.

  16. Pars for leaders as rain rolls inpublished at 21:01 British Summer Time 15 June

    Burns -2, Scott -1 (6)

Adam Scott has a long putt from acres away that he almost holes, but Sam Burns gets off the hook as he can tap in for his par to stay one shot in front.

The rain is really coming down now just to add to the test, but who will come out on top between these two? Thumbs up for Scott, down for Burns - Go!

  17. Bogey for Hovlandpublished at 21:01 British Summer Time 15 June

    Hovland +1, Spaun +2 (8)

Viktor Hovland and JJ Spaun both make par on the seventh. And the American then has a long-range birdie putt on the long par-three eighth, that he's content to push close.

With it now tipping down, Viktor Hovland plays a decent chip after finding the greenside bunker but then misreads another putt to drop a shot.

  18. Postpublished at 21:00 British Summer Time 15 June

    Hatton +1, Ortiz +2 (8)

Tyrrell Hatton has drawn a half-decent lie in the rough on the ninth but he still needs all his strength to advance the ball as far as the greenside bunker.

Difficult up-and-down coming up for the three-time Ryder Cup player.

    Rain is hurtling down.

It's so loud under canvas in the media centre here.

I've had to turn up my headphones.

  20. Postpublished at 20:54 British Summer Time 15 June

    Hatton +1, Ortiz +2 (8)

Tyrrell Hatton has reached the severely difficult par-four ninth - and he's put himself on the back foot as he sprays his drive into the thick rough to the right of the fairway.

Carlos Ortiz, who lipped out for birdie on the eighth, narrowly avoids the tall rough on the left. He's in decent shape now.

The rain is absolutely hammering down now.
