    Scheffler -5, Thomas E, Ballester +6 (5)

Has that par-save buoyed Scottie Scheffler?

The defending champion spirals a superb tee shot into the par-three sixth and can be no more than five feet or so from the pin.

  3. Par for McIlroy, bogey for Abergpublished at 19:58 British Summer Time 11 April

    McIlroy -6, Aberg -4, Bhatia +1 (17)

Hole 17 was a real problem for Rory McIlroy on Thursday but he's just navigated it successfully.

His birdie putt runs high so it's a par but onto the 18th unscathed.

That's not the case for Ludvig Aberg who makes a sloppy bogey to drop back to four under par.

  4. Postpublished at 19:56 British Summer Time 11 April

    Scheffler -5, Thomas -1, Ballester +6 (5)

Scottie Scheffler hasn't been able to convert a couple of birdie putts but now makes a scrambling four to save par at the fifth after having to play out right from a fairway bunker.

  5. Frustrated Fitzpatrickpublished at 19:54 British Summer Time 11 April

    Fitzpatrick E (73)

Matt Fitzpatrick's round ends on a sour note. Putting for a birdie on the 18th, he leaves himself 6 feet short and then fails to save his par.

The Englishman looks far from happy with himself there.

  6. Hovland hands one backpublished at 19:50 British Summer Time 11 April

    Hovland -5 (17)

Viktor Hovland not only ends his run of four straight birdies but drops a shot on 17 with a late bogey - just his second of the day - to add a sour note to a fabulous effort down this second nine.

  7. Postpublished at 19:50 British Summer Time 11 April

    McIlroy -6, Aberg -4, Bhatia E (16)

Keep lining up these tremendous shots on the second nine for Rory McIlroy.

Another iron finds its way to 11 feet from the pin at the 17th and he'll have chance to trim Justin Rose's lead further.

  8. Postpublished at 19:49 British Summer Time 11 April

    Scheffler -5, Thomas -1, Ballester +5 (4)

Scottie Scheffler's birdie putt on the fourth curls off wickedly to the right. Was that a misread?

Nowt much doing for the American, whose only major triumphs to date have arrived at Augusta National.

  9. Clark makes birdie streakpublished at 19:48 British Summer Time 11 April

    Clark +1 (14)

About half an hour ago, 2023 US Open champion Wyndham Clark's race looked to be run.

Three straight birdies from holes 12 to 14 has got him back to one over par and the correct side of the projected cut line.

He'll need to stay careful through the final four holes if he is to make the weekend.

  10. The Rasmus rollercoasterpublished at 19:46 British Summer Time 11 April

    Hojgaard -4 (67)

Talk about a rollercoaster finish. Rasmus Hojgaard has been keeping the scorers busy.

He ends up with a bogey on the 18th after finding the first fairway bunker down the left from the tee and then laying up.

His iron into the green comes up way too short, which means he's gone bogey, birdie, bogey, birdie, birdie, bogey to conclude his round.

  11. Superb from Shanepublished at 19:37 British Summer Time 11 April

    Lowry -5 (14)

    Stephen Watson
BBC Sport Northern Ireland at Augusta National

Shane Lowry has been superb today. This is an impressive performance by the Irishman who has produced five birdies to get into a share of third place - where he finished in 2022.

Perhaps a good time to remind ourselves that a Green Jacket is the only thing left for any Irish golfer to achieve - after producing 10 major wins in the past 18 years.

  12. McIlroy saves parpublished at 19:37 British Summer Time 11 April

    McIlroy -6, Aberg -4, Bhatia E (16)

Rory McIlroy checks, then goes back to check again, before stepping forward and tidying away for par.

    Mentally important. Scoreboard important.

Two holes to go, he stays at six under par.

  13. Double bogey for Raipublished at 19:37 British Summer Time 11 April

    Rai E, (8)

Commentator's curse. Just as we were going on about how solid Aaron Rai was looking he knocks a wood out of bounds down the left of the eighth hole and ends up trooping off the par five with a double-bogey seven.

  14. Birdie for Abergpublished at 19:36 British Summer Time 11 April

    Aberg -5 (16)

Been a strange round for Ludvig Aberg - just kept himself ticking over.

That's a bonus birdie though. Putting from the fringe at the 16th and finding his first shot of the second nine.

    Back to five under.

  15. Lowry going lowpublished at 19:35 British Summer Time 11 April

    DeChambeau -7, Lowry -5, Matsuyama -4 (14)

Shane Lowry has played some brilliant approach shots today, and there's another here on 14 that sets up a 13 foot birdie to improve to five under.

We've not seen too much of Shane today but he's putting together a fine round - with five birdies and just the one bogey so far he's at the sharp end of things right now.

He's now only a shot behind playing partner Bryson DeChambeau who is on a six-hole run of pars, while Hideki Matsuyama also picks up a shot at 14 and he too is motoring now at four under.

    Quality group this one.

  16. Postpublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 11 April

    McIlroy -6, Aberg -4, Bhatia E (15)

It's an awkward little chip for Rory Mcilroy from just off the side of the 16th green.

He's careful not to overhit it and has left himself six feet to save par.

Feels like an important one to keep the momentum.

  17. Hojgaard on the movepublished at 19:33 British Summer Time 11 April

    Hojgaard -5 (17)

Nicolai Hojgaard briefly led the Masters on Saturday, 12 months ago, could his brother, Rasmus do the same this time around?

He is certainly giving himself every chance, dunking in a tricky right to left putt on the 17th for his eighth birdie of the day.

  18. Postpublished at 19:30 British Summer Time 11 April

    McIlroy -6, Aberg -4, Bhatia E (15)

A lick of the teeth from Rory McIlroy on the par-three 16th. Far from the best shot he's hit today.

It's safe but he's 10 yards over the back of the green rather than within the ideal distance for another birdie.

  19. Four in a row for red hot Hovland!published at 19:27 British Summer Time 11 April

    Schauffele -2, Hovland -6 (16)

My word! Viktor Hovland lands a bomb on the 16th green and that makes it four birdies in a row for the Norwegian to march on to six under and just two off the lead.

Again, Hovland has been struggling with his game for over a year, and even when he was a surprise winner a few weeks ago on the PGA Tour he insisted he was still not happy with his swing.

He's probably a bit happier now.

  20. McIlroy closes in with another birdiepublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 11 April

    McIlroy -6, Aberg -4, Bhatia E (15)

Way to banish demons from yesterday!

Rory McIlroy makes it to six under with a well-taken birdie putt at the 15th.

Just two shots back off Justin Rose's lead.
