    Hatton +2, Homa +5, McIlroy +7 (1)

Rory McIlroy's approach with the wedge from 100 yards lands short of the pin. It'll be some putt to make a birdie from there...

Tyrrell Hatton is a similar distance away and putts first, safely tapping in for a par.

Now it's Rory's turn... it's on a decent line but, into the wind, it pulls up a foot short.

A good par to start though.

  2. Bogey for Bobpublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 19 July

    Fleetwood +5, MacIntyre +5, Rahm +2 (2)

A tough start for Robert MacIntyre gets worse on the second hole as he finds the greenside bunker with his second and fails to get it up and down, so that's a bogey to add to his opening triple.

  3. Postpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 19 July

    Harman +2, Hovland +4, Theegala +6 (1)

Pars all round for this group on the first.

Brian Harman found the front of the green with his approach and two-putted from 40-odd feet for his four.

  4. Postpublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 19 July

    Aberg +4, DeChambeau +5, Kim +5 (1)

Pars all round for these three as they get their second rounds under way. Bryson DeChambeau hits it closest but only 35 feet and an outside chance at birdie but fours where about right.

  5. How can Rory respond?published at 15:11 British Summer Time 19 July

    McIlroy +7

Rory McIlroy's 78 yesterday was his worst round in major since his first round 79 at the 2019 Open at Portrush, and leaves him up against it to make the cut.

What he did do at Portrush was to respond with that epic second round 65, which although not enough to make the weekend still gave the huge home crowds a huge buzz.

Can he produce something similar today?

His opening drive avoids the fairway bunkers and hugs the left of the short grass.

  6. 'Testament to how well Brown is playing'published at 15:11 British Summer Time 19 July

    Brown -5 (14)

    Graeme Storm
Two-time European Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

When somebody shoots a low score, it’s always very difficult to pick it up and continue the next day. You want to but it is very hard, especially in a championship like this, where it is so demanding.

[For Dan Brown] to be able to hold his round together and not drop away is testament to well he is playing.

Another solid par for Brown on 14 - he's ticking the holes off nicely.

  7. Postpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 19 July

    Hatton +2, Homa +5, McIlroy +7 (15:10 BST)

Now then, Rory McIlroy, can you find something special today to make the cut?

The red long-sleeved top brought the best out of Tiger Woods over the years - so maybe it'll have the same effect on Rory.

  8. 'Scheffler knows when it's the right time'published at 15:08 British Summer Time 19 July

    Scheffler -2 (70)

    Graeme Storm
Two-time European Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Scheffler is amazing. He could dominate the game for quite a long time. He might not win every tournament, he might not win every major but he’s always in there, or thereabouts.

When he won the Masters, the touch that he has around the green, the short game is second to none right now. That elevates him above everybody else.

His calmness, and also the fact that he’s not frightened to plod his way around and position the ball in the right place. Some of these other players are a bit gung-ho and they go for everything.

Scottie Scheffler seems to know when it’s the right time and when it’s not.

  9. What happens after the 18th?published at 15:05 British Summer Time 19 July

    Richard Winton
    BBC Scotland at Royal Troon

    Cars at the Open

Ever wondered what happens once the players disappear from view behind the 18th green?

Well, there's a card to tot up and sign, obviously; friends and family to meet; and media duties to fulfil. Then they're smuggled away in one of these to get on with the rest of their day.

  10. Postpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 19 July

    MacIntyre +4 (1)

    Ben Croucher
    BBC Sport at Royal Troon

I was down at the practice chipping area as Bob MacIntyre was going through his final routines in one of the bunkers. Every shot, every lie, he was knocking balls to within inches of the hole.

First hole - finds a bunker. Can't escape. Just when you think you understand this sport, Troon finds a way to mess with your mind.

  11. Triple start for MacIntyrepublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 19 July

    Fleetwood +5, MacIntyre +4, Rahm +2 (1)

It's a seven for Robert MacIntyre at the first hole - absolutely horrific start for the Scot.

Jon Rahm nudges a chip from just short of the green up to the hole while Tommy Fleetwood rolls a long putt just short as both make pars, but MacIntyre has a nightmare.

Right rough off the tee, rough with his second, bunker with his third, left in the sand with four, five he finally escapes and then it's two putts for a triple bogey.

He'd have built himself up to have a real go today and to have such a huge gut punch on the first is a massive blow.

  12. Postpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 19 July

    Rose (-4) 8

    Richard Winton
    BBC Scotland at Royal Troon

A nice, safe, regulation par and a 26th consecutive hole without a bogey. Ridiculous consistency by Justin Rose.

Get Involved - is Tiger right to keep playing majors?published at 15:03 British Summer Time 19 July

Tiger has earned the right to play the majors for as long as he enjoys doing so. That is what exemptions are for, they are earned.

    Anon.

Don't forget to put your names on texts, folks.

  14. Scheffler bogeys the lastpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 19 July

    Scheffler -2 (70), Spieth +3 (74), Young +4 (17)

Barely a ripple from the stands as Scottie Scheffler's par putt slides past the hole.

Three birdies, two bogeys on the card and the world number one enters the weekend five off the lead.

Jordan Spieth misses his birdie putt and covers his eyes with his hat - he would have loved that to finish.

Important putt for Cam Young as sinking it probably means he'll make the cut.

Wind update. My hat just blew off.

  16. Postpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 19 July

    Harman +2, Hovland +4, Theegala +6

Brian Harman began the defence of his Open title with a two-over 73 yesterday. He's the next man to brave the gusting winds of Royal Troon.

Viktor Hovland and Sahith Theegala are in that "could miss the cut" portion of the leaderboard, so a big 18 holes ahead for them.

  17. Postpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 19 July

    Scheffler -3, Spieth +2, Young +4 (17)

Literally 40 yards for Jordan Spieth to the pin with his second shot at 18. His big mate Justin Thomas was having all sorts of trouble with that wind going the other way on the front nine not too long ago.

Spieth is probably thinking about holing this.

After the bunker troubles, Scottie Scheffler has given himself 10 feet to close with par.

  18. Postpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 19 July

    Brown -5 (13)

I'm so impressed with how Dan Brown has approached this second round.

He's not tried to do anything fancy, just stayed away from where the major trouble is and putted well.

As a result, he's carded just the two bogeys today and remains two shots off Shane Lowry's lead.

  19. Postpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 19 July

    Rose -4 (7)

    Richard Winton
    BBC Scotland at Royal Troon

Justin Rose! A magnificent approach to six feet and a second birdie of the day. Now on to the Postage Stamp…

  20. Postpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 19 July

    Aberg +4, DeChambeau +5, Kim +5

Bryson DeChambeau said he couldn't get his swing speeds up fast enough to make his clubs and ball work properly yesterday.

Let's see if he's worked out some of those issues as he gets his second round under way.
