    Hojgaard -5 (4)

Nicolai Hojgaard almost pulls off a Tyrrell Hatton style birdie on the par-five fourth. After finding trouble off the tee, he's well short of the green with his second.

But his wedge in is delicious. Putting on the brakes and almost reversing into the hole. Another par.

  2. Spieth wayward againpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 12 April

    Aberg +1, Spieth +7, Theegala +2

Jordan Spieth had a double-bogey six on the first in round one. He could do with getting off to a better start than that, given the way he ended his first 18 holes an hour or so ago.

He's not got much of a clue where his driver is going at the moment though. Way left off the 18th tee... he's now sliced his opener off the first.

A rueful look at caddie Michael Greller from the 2015 Masters champion, whose race may already be run.

Ludvig Aberg and Sahith Theegala are side-by-side in the fairway.

The improved weather also meant there was no need for Jason Day to pack the baggy waterproofs today.

His choice of trousers was one of a number of fashion statement which caught the eye yesterday...

  5. Always take the weather with you...published at 15:42 British Summer Time 12 April

One of the most important apps on a golfer's phone is the one showing the weather forecast.

As we all know, the elements have a huge bearing on the players and their ability to deal with the conditions is always a key factor.

Mother Nature had her say at Augusta National yesterday with the stormy rain and gusty winds affecting strategy and scoring.

This morning, things were much calmer. The sun was out and the winds dropped quite a bit.

But the strength of those gusts could return to cause havoc later.

No chance of play being interrupted today or over the weekend, although the increasing temperatures will firm up the greens.

    Forecast for Augusta
  6. Postpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 12 April

    Woods +1, Day +3, Homa -5 (1)

The temperatures are warming up and so, it seems, is Tiger's body.

If he holds out physically, the golf will too and he will make the cut.

Two solid and smooth swings offer the chance of a birdie on the first, but the 15-time major champion's putt just drifts wide.

A full house of pars to start for Messrs Woods, Homa and Day.

  7. Hatton sees redpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 12 April

    Hatton -1 (2)

Tyrrell Hatton had a miserable morning at Augusta National as he shipped three shots in his closing holes to sign for a level-par 72.

You could see the blood beginning to boil.

The Englishman is already back out for round two and is that the start of a smile? He's back under par with a birdie on the second... time to start building again.

Just as we ease ourselves into the second round why not take a look back at the best shots from round one at the Masters.

  9. Postpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 12 April

    Woods +1, Day +3, Homa -5

Right then, let's get back at it.

Tiger Woods, Max Homa and Jason Day had about 40 minutes to collect their thoughts before reappearing on the first.

Perhaps there was time for a tune-up on the range. Maybe Tiger did some stretching. Who knows.

All three find decent spots with their drives on the first, all on the fairway/first cut left

  10. Get Involved - Can Tiger make the cut?published at 15:26 British Summer Time 12 April

Tiger Woods, despite all his problems, has made the cut at the Masters every single time he's played it and therefore has tied the record with 23 consecutive weekend appearances at Augusta.

He's tied with Fred Couples and Gary Player, but if he can somehow make the cut today he'll set a new record by himself, but can he do it?

    Hojgaard -5 (3)

Danish debutant Nicolai Hojgaard is continuing on his merry way.

Three holes down in the second round, three pars ticked off. He remains two off the lead.

  14. End of round one - finally!published at 15:15 British Summer Time 12 April

Right then, that's the end of the first round of the 2024 Masters and Bryson DeChambeau with that sparkling 65 leads the way. He had the best of the conditions admittedly but that was still one of the best rounds we've seen in a long time.

Scottie Scheffler is just a shot behind after an effortless 66, looking like he was just out for a nice stroll on the course it was an ominous opening for the rest of the field.

Nicolai Hojgaard is a surprise third on five under alongside Max Homa - the Dane is already back out there and Homa will be starting his second round in a few minutes alongside Tiger Woods.

The sun's out at Augusta, but there's still some wind about to make it a proper test, so settle in for the rest of the day as it should be another belter.

  15. Postpublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 12 April

With Fleetwood's tap-in for bogey, it means round one of the 2024 Masters is finally DONE.

That's about 16 hours later than we expected after thunderstorms delayed Thursday's start time and meant 27 players had to finish their opening rounds this morning.

  16. Birdie for Morikawapublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 12 April

    Johnson +5, Morikawa -1, Fleetwood E (18)

What a time to go into the red - and what a way to do it!

Collin Morikawa's frustration at not birdieing the 17th quickly disappears as he lands a pearler of a birdie putt on the last.

From 35 feet, Morikawa sends his ball south and moves to one under.

However, no such joy for Tommy Fleetwood who misses a tiddler and ends up where Morikawa was - level par.

  17. Postpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 12 April

    Johnson +5, Morikawa E, Fleetwood -1 (17)

Little over two hours after restarting, there is only one group remaining on the course who are concluding their first rounds.

Tommy Fleetwood misses the green with approach on the last, but still opts to grab the putter from his caddie.

Long-time caddie Ian Finnis is not on the Englishman's bag, by the way, because of illness.

I'd need half a wedge from there. Fleetwood gives the short stick a good thump and that's very well judged.

  18. Spieth facing tall order to make cutpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 12 April

    Aberg +1 (73), Spieth +7 (79), Theegala (74)

Ludvig Aberg has largely been struggling too with a bogey and a double wiping out the good work of Thursday.

But he gets up and down from a greenside bunker at the last, with an excellent 10-footer to save par.

Sahith Theegala is also in for par at the last and he is right on the projected cut line.

Jordan Spieth taps in but looks shell-shocked at what has just happened to him.

  19. Postpublished at 14:57 British Summer Time 12 April

    Johnson +5, Morikawa E, Fleetwood -1 (17)

The attention on two-time major champion Collin Morikawa mirrors his personality. Understated and calm.

Morikawa has been steady rather than spectacular so far at Augusta this week, but has the chance to go into the red for the first time on the 17th.

After two bogeys on the front half, he has recovered them on the way home. However, he can't complete a winning comeback as his birdie putt slides agonisingly past.

The long look up to the heavens, and biting of his putting shift, tells us exactly how he feels.

  20. Postpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 12 April

    Spieth +7 (17)

I could almost shed a tear for Jordan Spieth.

"Get me another ball Mikey," he says to his caddie Michael Greller after an errant tee shot on the 18th flies into the trees.

He's coming off a bogey on the 17th, a sixth shot gone in four holes.

Spieth finds his first ball but his second shot is way left of the green. But he shows his class, chipping to two feet. It's going to be a par finish but he's got his head in his hands trying to work out what has gone wrong today.
