The first Viktor Hovland fist pump of the day as the Norwegian drains an 18 footer on the eighth for a birdie two, and a birdie that Scottie Scheffler can't answer as Europe double their lead in this one.

From the middle of the fairway, Collin Morikawa goes flag hunting and very nearly finds it as it goes a couple of feet by.

But talking of flag hunting... take a bow Tommy Fleetwood!

The Englishman's ball hits the stick in reply and that is a virtual tap-in for Rory McIlroy.

They will make Harris English play his putt...

Tyrrell Hatton has not been on top form today and he pulls his drive on the exacting 10th into a fairway bunker.

Patrick Cantlay pumps his drive down the middle.

Super chip from Jon Rahm. That will be a four.

Xander Schauffele now though, with a good chance of a three. But no - a weak effort up the hill from the American.

That games stays at one up to Europe.

Scottie Scheffler almost holes a 35-foot monster of a putt on seven but it just pulls up an inch or so short of dropping.

That leaves Robert MacIntyre with three feet for the half, and the Scotsman is up to the task to preserve their narrow lead.

Ok, maybe a loss of concentration there for Rory McIlroy as he sends the second shot beyond the green and into the rough on the 10th.

Very much advantage USA with Harris English's iron shot landing on the green, although still a fair distance from the hole.

Tommy Fleetwood once again uses his fineness around the greens to give McIlroy a chance at par from six feet.

And that is exactly what he does to dampen the flicker of American hope at the start of this back nine.

Bryson DeChambeau breathes on a long putt down the hill - one of the few really fast putts at this softened Bethpage this week, but it just trickles wide of the cup.

So Ludvig Aberg has 14 feet for the win, but the ball just wiggles a bit on it's line and then settles right on the edge.

That was a great chance and Europe aren't going to get too many more in this match.

Jon Rahm puts Tyrrell Hatton in the eight-centre of the fairway. Ball above his feet so he will be worried about it turning over.

It's 160 yards. He has gone for an eight iron, which seems a lot of club.

And he has indeed airmailed the green. That will be a difficult chip for Jon Rahm, but it's Jon Rahm, so...

These are the three that have led the way for Europe so far this week.

Although who is that hairless character in the middle?

It's been a while since Jon Rahm was clean shaven.

The scorecard for the front nine makes for pleasant reading for team Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy.

They were four up at the turn in the foursomes on Friday against Harris English and Collin Morikawa and went on to win 5&4.

Can they do something similar today?

Xander Schauffele has to somehow follow that.

He actually hits a terrific chip but it rolls past the hole and Europe go back ahead.

What a moment from the big Spaniard. He absolutely loves the Ryder Cup.

A bit of a mess from Viktor Hovland and Robert MacIntyre, mainly with Hovland going long with a wedge from only 87 yards - that was the real mistake.

So Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley win their first hole of the day - and just third of this Ryder Cup as they claimed just two yesterday in this format.

And there it is - Ludvig Aberg can't make amends for his error by making a big putt so Europe slip three behind and this one seems like it's just gotten away from them now.

JON RAHM!

He has just HOLED a seriously, seriously difficult chip.

Let me paint the picture...

Standing in a bunker. Juicy rough. Ball sitting down. Pitching on to a downslope. The eyes of New York bearing into the back of his head.

And the Spaniard digs into the back of the ball, it pops up perfectly, lands on the optimum spot on the green and rolls into the cup.

All a bit more settled on this ninth hole.

Both pairings in the fairway and both on the green in two.

Team USA with around 35ft and team Europe with around 23 - can either sink a long one to take into the turn?

Nope.

Pars for both and it is as you were heading into the back nine.

Pumped-up Patrick Cantlay absolutely pures his long iron to the par-three eight over the green. Will be a tough chip.

Tyrrell Hatton lets him off the hook with a horrible pull left though and that will probably be an even more difficult chip for Jon Rahm.

The Americans missed the green on 10 so the door is open for Ludvig Aberg, but he hits a horrible shot that's short and what's worse just hangs on in the rough above the bunker.

Defying the laws of physics the ball is perched on a cliff, Matt Fiztpatrick has to stand in the sand and play a baseball swing - so unsurprisingly the result isn't good.

Looks like Europe going three down here....
