  1. Coughlin wins anotherpublished at 20:02 British Summer Time 13 September

    2UP Coughlin/Schmelzel v Pedersen/Stark (8)

Lauren Coughlin sends America 2UP in this match with a 10-footer sent gliding up the hill and gliding into the hole for a birdie four.

That's a dagger to Europe who do not want to head into the back nine two behind.

  2. Lee rebukes fan on ninth teepublished at 19:59 British Summer Time 13 September

Just as Anna Nordqvist reached the top of her backswing at the ninth, the click of a camera phone could be heard.

Thankfully it did not impair the Swede, who still landed within birdie range on the dance floor.

However, it did incur a rebuke from Allison Lee, who went over and personally altered the settings on the phone in question, telling the man in question to buck his ideas up.

  3. Sagstrom strikespublished at 19:57 British Summer Time 13 September

Madelene Sagstrom finally joins the party here as she fires a lovely tee shot on nine to about five feet and then rolls it in down the slope to send Europe two ahead.

That's a nice way to hit the turn - a two-hole lead in what is the only bright spot for Europe this afternoon.

  4. Grant brings Europe level againpublished at 19:49 British Summer Time 13 September

    An Lee/Zhang v Grant/Hull A/S (7)

A chance for Linn Grant to wipe out the red in the fourth match as she stands over a 12 footer for birdie at the seventh.

    Sunk. Tremendous from the Swede.

  5. Hall sinks huge putt in vainpublished at 19:49 British Summer Time 13 September

    5UP Korda/Khang v Hall/Maguire (10)

Wowzers! Georgia Hall sinks a monster putt on the 10th for par. However, it's academic.

Nelly Korda's tee shot had given her an eagle chance, but it comes up just short and she has to settle for a birdie instead.

The USA are back to five up in match one.

    But it is there.

  7. Nordqvist puts blue on the boardpublished at 19:47 British Summer Time 13 September

    Lee/Thompson v Nordqvist/Sagstrom 1UP (8)

The par fives have been American territory mainly today, but Anna Norqvist puts a stop to that as she makes a four on the eighth to put Europe one up.

The only small slice of blue on the board right now...

So, what's your strategy when it comes to following Solheim Cup matches? Do you sit and wait for the players to come to you, or go into the heart of the action?

A couple of hundred fans have already staked their spot around the picturesque 14th green. There was tremendous drama down there this morning with the pin cut just over the lake and three balls going for swim in classic risk-reward golf on the par-five hole.

Players might well be swapping water for sand this afternoon though with the pin over to the right and well protected by bunkers.

Sadly for the fans, there's not a lot to do while waiting. There is a big screen keeping everyone updated with the scores, but other than that, it's a just lovely setting for a sit down. After all, the temperature that was more Manchester than Manassas this morning, is rising with the sun peeking through the cloudy sky.

Hit the thumbs - up for having a mooch around, down for sit and wait.

  10. USA edge in frontpublished at 19:38 British Summer Time 13 September

    1UP Coughlin/Schmelzel v Pedersen/Stark (7)

After Emily Pedersen misses her birdie putt, Sarah Schmelzel walks in her birdie try from six feet or so and she puts the USA ahead.

The two rookies have been dovetailing beautifully in this match, with one always stepping up if the other struggles - one of the great, but often annoying things about fourball matchplay if you're facing a team like this.

  11. US nudge ahead in last matchpublished at 19:36 British Summer Time 13 September

    1UP An Lee/Zhang v Grant/Hull (6)

The American challenge in the bottom pairing has lived or died by Rose Zhang's putting so far - long and she's sunk it. Short and she's missed it.

It means we've not mentioned her partner Andrea Lee but suddenly she's arrived, flying in a wonderful approach at six and tidying up for a birdie.

That move gives the Americans the lead.

  12. Hall gets on the boardpublished at 19:33 British Summer Time 13 September

    4UP Korda/Khang v Hall/Maguire (9)

Finally, Georgia Hall takes a brick out of the red wall being built by Megan Khang and Nelly Korda.

Hall putts from about 15 feet to make a birdie to win the ninth hole.

Could this be the catalyst for a change of fortunes for the European pair on the back nine?

    The match remains all square.

The question I would have for Suzann Pettersen is putting Georgia and Leona out first with their personality types. They’re not up in your face and want to get this party started. They’re both insular, quite calm.

They do have that grit and determination inside of them but they don’t necessarily show it outwardly.

You want players who have that spark outwardly to show they’re here. They’re just quite flat.

  15. Frustrations show for Hallpublished at 19:22 British Summer Time 13 September

    5UP Korda/Khang v Hall/Maguire (8)

Georgia Hall mutters an expletive under her breath after another birdie chance goes begging at the eighth.

Nelly Korda misses the chance to win the hole, but Megan Khang duly follows up and taps in a short putt to put the USA five up.

Khang and Korda barely celebrate this time. At the end of the back nine and they know the European pair are probably already toast.

Nelly Korda and Meghan Khang are not opening the door for Leona Maguire and Georgia Hall.

It looks like they want to get this match done as soon as possible. They keep piling the pressure on and they’re not allowing the Europeans any chance of pulling one back.

  17. Solid from Starkpublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 13 September

    Coughlin/Schmelzel v Pedersen/Stark A/S (6)

Rock-solid four-foot putt from Maja Stark to halve the sixth and keep the match all square. You just get a sense Europe are hanging on a bit now so that was crucial to keep any more red off the board.

Stark was cool as a cucumber over that putt though.

The sun has really cut through on a fine Virginia afternoon, which means it’s scorchio out on the course at present with the temperature at 28C.

The first two matches are still rattling through at a decent pace, albeit further back the action has slowed, with the final fourball containing Charley Hull and Linn Grant having to wait between shots.

  19. Sagstrom strugglingpublished at 19:16 British Summer Time 13 September

    Lee/Thompson v Nordqvist/Sagstrom A/S (6)

Madelene Sagstrom is struggling a bit again on seven as once again Anna Nordqvist is fighting a solo battle as she finds the green nice and safely with his second shot.

She'll need some help soon though to fend off this American pair.

  20. Zhang holes another huge puttpublished at 19:15 British Summer Time 13 September

    An Lee/Zhang v Grant/Hull A/S (5)

Oh wow, Rose Zhang cannot putt from six feet but she can from 30. She's only gone and holed another magnificent one.

A real shame for Europe as Charley Hull hit the shot of the hole when she dinked it to 10 feet but now she has to convert to maintain the lead in this match.

Which she can't. A significant momentum shift there.
