Just brilliant stuff from Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy as the Northern Irishman alsmot holes out from 100 yards away to guarantee another birdie and it's enough to go four up and Harris English and Collin Morikawa.

That;s three birdies in a row and three wins in a row for the European pair who look like they fancy an early lunch.

Ugly from Europe on the fifth. Robert MacIntyre into rough off the tee and Viktor Hovland into the greenside rough with the approach.

In contrast, the US side are in the fairway with their drive and into the heart of the green with their second.

    Some short-game magic required, Bob.

Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm have been up against it from the start, but after that unexpected win on the last hole they then edge ahead with a fine birdie on the par-three eighth.

Hatton hits it to 11 feet and Rahm walks in the putt that was never, ever in doubt - and all you can hear around the eighth green is the 'Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole' chants from the European fans.

    Henley/Scheffler v Aberg/Fitzpatrick 3UP (7)

Matt Fitzpatrick off the tee at the par three seventh. He goes over the water and drops it bang on the green.

Now time for Scottie Scheffler and he lands it in the rough. The world number one is under pressure.

Ludvig Aberg lines up the putt from miles out and it lips out. So, so close to a stunning shot.

    Henley/Scheffler v Aberg/Fitzpatrick 3UP (6)

Matt Fitzpatrick lines up Europe's second shot of the rough and plants it on the green. Great stuff once again.

Here's Scottie Scheffler and he hits the green, too.

The US will need some magic from the world number one if they're to get back into this match.

For the first time this week, we get out the 'classic matchplay' cliche as Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm win the hole with a par four despite their visit to the trees.

The rules official says the ball didn't move in there so Hatton's second was fine, and Rahm then knocked it stone dead with a 30-foot putt.

In that 'classic matchplay' moment it left Justin Thomas with just a four footer for the half but it lipped out and the match is level again.

That's a dagger for the USA pair.

  9. US stay ahead in bottom matchpublished at 13:47 BST 26 September

    1UP Cantlay/Schauffele v Hovland/MacIntyre (4)

Good bunker shot by Patrick Cantlay to three feet. That will likely be a four.

But Robert MacIntyre now to win the hole and take red off the scoreboard.

But no, it drifts a little left. And Xander Schauffele knocks in the US' putt for a half.

  10. The lead is three!published at 13:46 BST 26 September

    English/Morikawa v Fleetwood/McIlroy 3UP (5)

Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood are turning the screw now on the American pair with a birdie on the fifth hole - Fleetwood with a stunning approach out of the right rough and McIlroy with an eight footer for the three.

That's back-to-back birdies for Europe, who are three under through five holes which in foursomes is just excellent scoring.

    1UP Cantlay/Schauffele v Hovland/MacIntyre (3)

Robert MacIntyre in prime spot from the fairway. Can he apply pressure with a fine iron shot?

Yes he can. Over the top of the flag to the back edge.

Xander Schauffele, from the first cut of rough, to reply. And he can only hit that into the front bunker.

  12. Shot!published at 13:40 BST 26 September

    1UP DeChambeau/Thomas v Hatton/Rahm (6)

Europe are in the woods, and there's a close-up look at the ball with twigs and branches around it, did it move when Tyrrell Hatton was walking up to it?

Nobody seems sure, and despite having a big branch right by the ball the Englishman hammers it out of the trees and finds the green.

    Great shot.

    English/Morikawa v Fleetwood/McIlroy 2UP (4)

Europe double their lead on the fourth with a birdie four thanks to a brilliant escape from that plugged lie in the bunker by Tommy Fleetwood.

Rory McIlroy does the rest by rolling in a seven footer as this European power couple go two up.

  14. MacIntyre to the rescuepublished at 13:36 BST 26 September

    1UP Cantlay/Schauffele v Hovland/MacIntyre (3)

Robert MacIntyre drains his long putt for three!

The Scot makes up for his poor approach by boxing that one.

Now Xander Schauffele's short putt - that felt like it was for a win a second ago - looks a bit longer...

But he pops it in and that's halved, so the US stay just one up.

  15. Europe three uppublished at 13:34 BST 26 September

    Henley/Scheffler v Aberg/Fitzpatrick 3UP (6)

Matt Fitzpatrick finds himself on the green with the birdie putt and he sinks it!

Scottie Scheffler misses a six-footer and Europe move further into the lead.

Europe are flying in match two!

    1UP Cantlay/Schauffele v Hovland/MacIntyre (2)

Robert MacIntyre leaves Viktor Hovland in sand on the third and he can only splash out to 12 feet.

Patrick Cantlay putts from the fringe to six feet.

Europe in danger of going two down here.

  18. Unlikely halfpublished at 13:30 BST 26 September

    1UP DeChambeau/Thomas v Hatton/Rahm (6)

What a topsy-turvy hole that was! After looking dead and buried Tyrrell Hatton has a 12 footer to win it, but then races it three feet beyond the hole down the hill and there's no way the Americans a giving Europe that.

So Jon Rahm then has a short one to tidy up for the four and the half - after all that!

They're also running a little slow now after Europe's foray into the rough on that hole.

  19. Plugged!published at 13:26 BST 26 September

    English/Morikawa v Fleetwood/McIlroy 1UP (3)

Harris English is well short of the green with his second, but Rory McIlroy is also a touch shy when he takes dead aim at the flag and it just finds the bunker - and is plugged right up against the lip!

    Tough shot coming up.

  20. Europe uppublished at 13:25 BST 26 September

    Henley/Scheffler v Aberg/Fitzpatrick 2UP (5)

Disappointing for Russell Henley as he can't sink the putt and Europe move two up in the second match.

The world number one has it all to do.
