Like any high-profile sporting event, security measures are extremely high at Bethpage.

Given President Trump's attendance later today, and the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk, they are even stricter.

Fans were strongly urged to arrive as early as possible this morning and to give themselves extra time.

It was the same for the media. We left our hotel before 4am to arrive on site shortly before 5am. There was already some traffic on the leafy residential roads of nearby Farmingdale, with a long line waiting to put bags through airport-style security gates.

In addition to screening at the entrance, spectators will also be checked at screening points around the clubhouse and the adjacent grandstand which overlooks the first tee.

5:55am. The first rendition of Sweet Caroline. It’s never too early is it?

Plenty of fans belt out the Neil Diamond classic, with the DJ promising he isn’t going anywhere for the next hour.

Starred and striped Americans are jigging on the spot and wiggling those hips as a party megamix featuring Michael Jackson, Charli XCX and Pitbull

If you weren’t awake before, you are now. Who needs coffee and bacon rolls when you have bass and beats?

And apparently a city full of golf fans that never sleep either...

The Ryder Cup means an early start and the fans have been flowing through the gates at Bethpage since the early hours.

And plenty of them have come dressed for the occasion as well.

Excited? You betcha. Even the early alarm calls have not dampened the enthusiasm of the bleary-eyed Ryder Cup fans.

As soon as the gates open at 5am, a foot race begins.

On your marks… they’re off. Hundreds of punters sprint along the grass - don’t slip - to get ahead of the crowd and bag a prime spot on the first tee.

    It’s like golfing Glastonbury.

It's here! Finally, the 45th Ryder Cup is upon us and we're just an hour away from the opening tee shots being struck at Bethpage Black in New York.

The crowds are building nicely and it will be deafening by the time Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton make their way into this golfing arena to face not only Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas but also thousands of rowdy American fans.

Europe triumphed in Rome two years ago but away wins are rare in the Ryder Cup, can Luke Donald's side do it? Keep it right here to find out.
