    Manchester City have won their mid-season friendly against Bundesliga strugglers Hamburg 2-0 in Abu Dhabi, and it looked fairly comfortable from what I saw of the second half. Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko scored after the interval for Manuel Pellegrini's side, who return to domestic action when they host Championship promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.

    Sheffield's Katie Summerhayes has created a piece of history at the Freestyle World Championships in Kreischberg, Austria.

    The 19-year-old is the first British female skier to win a medal in the event's history after earning a silver in the ski slopestyle final behind Germany's Lisa Zimmerman took gold.

    Summerhayes' response on Twitter, external consisted of three letters and six exclamation marks: "OMG!!!!!!" You can take it that she's very pleased.

    Leading women footballers have abandoned their legal action over the use of artificial pitches at this year's Women's World Cup in Canada.

    A case claiming sexism against the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) and world governing body Fifa has been withdrawn at the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal.

    "The legal action has ended," says United States striker Abby Wambach, who has called for fairer treatment of women's sport.

    London Irish hooker David Paice has been suspended for three weeks after being sent off for a headbutt in the 43-41 win over Grenoble on Saturday.

    Paice was alleged to have struck Grenoble full-back Julien Caminati with his head, an incident which saw him sent off by referee Dudley Phillips.

    The 31-year-old will be free to return to action on 9 February.

    Paice, who has the right to appeal, pleaded not guilty at a disciplinary hearing in Dublin.

    South Africa have beaten West Indies by nine wickets in the third one-day international in East London. Imran Tahir took 4-24 as the tourists were skittled out for 122, before Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis knocked off most of South Africa's successful reply in under 25 overs. Victory gives South Africa a winning 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

    Hull City have announced a compensation package has been agreed with Blackpool for the signing of Tom Ince, without the need for a tribunal.

    Steve Bruce's Premier League side will pay up to £2.3m for the 22-year-old, who signed for the club on a two-year deal in the summer.

    England's Oliver Fisher, the 26-year-old world number 206 from Essex, recorded a first-round 65 to lead the Qatar Masters by a shot.

    Fisher carded eight birdies, including three in a row from the 16th, and one bogey in his seven-under-par round in Doha to lead from Spaniard Rafa Cabrera-Bello, with 11 players a shot further back, including former Open champions Paul Lawrie and Ernie Els.

    Northampton Saints have signed flanker Jamie Gibson from East Midlands rivals Leicester Tigers for next season.

    The 24-year-old was named in England's squad in the summer of 2012, but is yet to make his international debut.

    Williams are hoping the momentum gained from last season will help them push Mercedes to the wire this year.

    After unveiling their new car earlier today, chief technical officer Pat Symonds said: "I hope as a team we are more capable of maintaining the forward momentum to catch Mercedes than the teams behind us are of catching us.

    A Chinese conglomerate has bought a 20 per cent stake in Spanish champions Atletico Madrid.

    The Dalian Wanda Group purchased the stake for £34.4m.

    A statement from the club read: "Wanda Group's capital contribution in the club will allow Atletico to significantly shore up its balance sheet, as well as accelerate the growth of its brand globally."

    Atletico, coached by Argentinian Diego Simeone since 2011, won their first La Liga title in 18 years last season and also got to the Champions League final before losing to Real Madrid.

    Hull City's Ahmed Elmohamady says the team must eradicate the mistakes that have been costing them dearly in the Premier League in recent weeks.
