    A bold claim by Theo Walcott today, the Arsenal man claiming the current Gunners attack is better than the 2006 strikeforce.

    Just to refresh your memory, that strikeforce consisted Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires, Freddie Ljungberg and Jose Antonio Reyes.

    Walcott joined the club in 2006 and said: "That was some attacking force back then - but I think this squad probably does beat it, though we need to prove it.

    "When we go and achieve a little bit more than winning the FA Cup, then I think we can stand up and say this is the best attacking line up we've ever had."

    Australian Olympic walk silver medalist Jared Tallent has condemned a doping ban which will allow Russian rival Sergey Kirdyapkin to keep the gold medal he won at the London Olympics - and defend it at Rio de Janiero next year.

    The Russian Anti Doping Agency has banned Kirdyapkin for three years, two months for doping offences. But the ban doesn't cover the London Games, at which he won the 50km walk, and expires before next year's Olympics in Brazil.

    Tallent described the ban as "outrageous" and said Russia was "laughing at the world".

    Chelsea want to sign 26-year-old Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado, but only if Germany forward Andre Schurrle and Egypt winger Mohamed Salah leave, reports The Mirror, external.

    Roma and Besiktas are interested in Salah, while German clubs Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverksen are keen on Schurrle.

    The 19-year-old, playing his last Grand Slam as a teenager, won 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 5-7 6-4 to reach the third round of Australian Open for the first time.

    The Swiss player required medical treatment on a finger problem after losing the first set but came back to win 3-6 6-3 6-2 6-2.

    Meanwhile, women's second seed Maria Sharapova came even closer to disaster. She had to save two match points before beating qualifier Alexandra Panova 6-1 4-6 7-5.

    As usual, Jose Mourinho provided some of the best moments from last night's Liverpool-Chelsea tie.

    After applauding Liverpool's Steven Gerrard off as he was substituted during the 1-1 draw at Anfield, Mourinho said that he wanted to try and sign the midfielder on loan when he leaves for America in the summer.

    "I think he has more than enough quality to play in the Premier League. In spite of the fact he's my opponent, I feel sorry that he's leaving," said the Chelsea manager.

    Murray won 6-1 6-3 6-2 in one hour and 42 minutes and was pleased to have got things done and dusted quickly, with temperatures breaking 30C on what was the hottest day of the tournament so far.

    "I'm pumped to be into the third round," said Murray, whatever that means.
