Chris in Winchester: Brendan Rodgers should be ashamed if Liverpool sell Rickie Lambert. He knew what he was getting yet never played to his strengths or gave him a run in the side.

Micky Poh in Sheffield: Why are we trying to spend £5m on an over-rated, aged poacher when we've just loaned out another in Darren Bent? Surely a good bit of spark in midfield for that kind of money.

John in Warrington: We should keep Lambert at Liverpool and send Villa Balotelli instead! I'll even pay his train fare.

    Burnley

From BBC Sport's Ian Dennis:"Burnley wanted West Brom midfielder Graham Dorrans and indeed lodged a bid but now he's part of the deal involving Martin Olsson going to WBA.

"Burnley are looking elsewhere and one target is Henri Lansbury at Nottingham Forest - but the Championship side are reluctant to sell."

"Jesse Lingard has some decent stats that would be useful at Championship level. As a Wolves fan I wouldn't mind seeing him add a bit more pace to the team so we can make a push for promotion - 81 acceleration and 82 balance, he would be a decent fit to the majority of Championship teams as he proved for Birmingham City when he scored four in one game last season."

Four Football League transfers to tell you about. Wigan have signed the wonderfully-named Gaetan Bong, a Cameroon international defender who was a free agent after leaving Greek side Olympiakos.

Tommy O'Sullivan has left Cardiff to join Port Vale on a month's loan, while Scunthorpe's David Mirfin has linked up with Hartlepool on a similar deal.

And Dagenham & Redbridge have added Huddersfield striker Daniel Carr on loan for the remainder of the season.

Jason in Stoke: As an Aston Villa fan of course I would welcome Rickie Lambert. But the sad truth is I also wouldn't blame him for not wanting the move. Such is the club at the moment.

Matt in Berkshire: If I was Rickie Lambert I would pick up the phone and call Ronald Koeman and tell him that I made a mistake leaving Southampton, then ask if it would be possible to come back.

Tom in Swadlincote: All very well signing Rickie Lambert but it's just another player in the box not getting deliveries.

BBC World Service Sport's John Bennett:

"The end of Hatem Ben Arfa? After confirmation that he won't be able to play until the end of the season Ben Arfa's agent has hinted that he may decide to quit football for good.

"Ben Arfa is not allowed to play for Nice this season, after Fifa ruled that a Newcastle Under-21 game counted as a competitive match. He joined Nice from Newcastle earlier this month after cutting short a loan spell at Hull."

"The 27 year-old is leaving Nice and lawyer Jean-Jacques Bertrand told Infosport+ "he has it in his head to quit football. The question is, will football - which he still dreams about still want him - and if yes, where will he go?""

"Emmanuel Adebayor? Nothing there either unless there is a change of heart from the player."

Today Fifa Interactive World Cup 2014 Grand Final competitor David Bytheway, external and Football Manager expert Alex Stewart will be providing insight and analysis of players involved in deals from a gamer's perspective.

"Rickie Lambert on Fifa is one of the slowest strikers I've seen - 49 acceleration and 52 sprint speed. I'd compare him to a Fiat Punto in a Formula 1 race. That being said he's a strong player with good aerial stats. That combined with 81 finishing, 85 free-kick accuracy and 95 rated penalties suggest he could be key to ending Aston Villa's offensive woes."

Manchester United have confirmed England Under-21 international Jesse Lingard was a late withdrawal from tonight's reserve game with Fulham at Leigh.

Lingard had loan spells at Birmingham and Brighton last season. He started United's opening game of this season against Swansea but suffered a serious knee injury from which he has only just recovered.

It is anticipated Lingard will be leaving Old Trafford on some kind of loan deal.

"Demarai Gray is a very useful prospect who develops into a good Premier League winger. Within a few seasons, his stats for dribbling, first touch and vision improve significantly, as do his physical attributes. In Football Manager, he's not the sort of player who gets signed by an Arsenal or a Juventus, but he would be worth a punt for any mid-table Premier League side with an eye on development."

Birmingham have rejected an improved £5m bid from Championship rivals AFC Bournemouth for teenage winger Gray.

Dundee United winger Gary Mackay-Steven, 24, and 22-year-old midfielder Stuart Armstrong are undergoing medicals at Celtic after the clubs agreed deals totalling £2m plus add-ons.

Mackay-Steven had already agreed to move to Celtic in the summer but, assuming there are no problems with the medical, will now move to Glasgow sooner. United's resolve to hang on to Armstrong had been tested by Celtic bids of £1.5m, then £1.6m, the latter rejected on Sunday. But talks on the final day of the transfer window has booked an exit from Tannadice.

    Phil Neville
    BBC Radio 5 live

"Rickie Lambert is perfect for Aston Villa but it is a massive emotional decision for him. He is finally at the club which he supported as a kid.

"It is not a decision he can make quickly. it took me two or three weeks to decide to leave Manchester United. He is someone who can score goals at this level, as proven by him at Southampton."
