    Bournemouth's Callum Wilson - seen here attempting to not get tripped up by some celebratory streamers - has been tipped to reproduce his Championship-winning form in the Premier League next season, when the Cherries make their top-flight debut.

    Wilson only signed from League One Coventry last summer, but his 23 goals helped inspire Bournemouth to promotion.

    Now club legend Steve Fletcher is saying he can match the achievements of QPR's Charlie Austin, who has also risen from the lower leagues to establish himself as one of the Premier League's leading marksmen.

    "He [Wilson] is a goal scorer and a good finisher," said Fletcher. "You can't take that out of anyone, it doesn't matter what level you are playing at."

    Birmingham City have not given up on persuading keeper Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Darren Randolph to stay at St Andrew's.

    The 27-year-old was expected to leave the Championship club this summer after the end of his contract, but Blues are in "continuing negotiations" with Randolph.

    Manager Gary Rowett also hopes to sign loanees Lloyd Dyer, Rob Kiernan, Robert Tesche and Diego Fabbrini.

    The grand-niece of Blackpool legend Stan Mortensen has called for a statue of the footballer to be returned to its spot outside the club's ground.

    Nicola Heaney said she was angry when she heard the statue had been removed last week.

    Fans had planned to leave tributes at the bronze statue as part of a protest against the club's owners on Saturday.

    "I will be checking later today to see if it has been restored and if it hasn't I will be deciding on my next course of action," Ms Heaney told BBC Radio Lancashire.

    Relegated Blackpool's last Championship game with Huddersfield was abandoned due to a mass pitch invasion.

    Mortensen, pictured in trademark scoring action below, fired 197 goals in 317 goals for the Seasiders from 1941 to 1955, and managed the club in the late '60s.

    The Scot ran the first leg as GB finished behind the the United States and Jamaica in the Bahamas to qualify for next year's Olympic Games.

    "This squad is brilliant," she said.

    "There are so many names there and everybody's going to be fighting for individual spots and that can only mean that the relays will be stronger."

    Lance Hohaia feels he has "let the team down" with the sudden announcement of his retirement, according to St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham.

    The 32-year-old New Zealander hung up his boots because of "recurrent post-match concussion-type symptoms" that he's suffered since last year's Grand Final, when he was punched twice by Wigan prop Ben Flower.

    Flower was given a six-month ban for the assault.

    Cunningham said: "He's a bit disappointed that he's let the team down but he seems fine. He made his decision a long time ago, I think, in his head."

    Manchester United defender Phil Jones is pushing for a first-team return after featuring for the club's Under-21s side on Monday. The 23-year-old played 62 minutes as the United youngsters beat Southampton 1-0 at Leigh Sports Village.

    "We have got a long way to go as there are still three games coming up - three massive games - and we have got to approach it in the right way," Jones told United's MUTV. "I'm sure we can do that and cement that top-four finish."

    Middlesex bowler James Harris has been speaking about his incredible nine wicket haul against Durham to help his team to a 187 run win in the County Championship.

    "It has been a long time coming but I'm really happy," says Harris. "I have felt all season I have been bowling nicely and there was still something to click. It probably happened this morning.

    "I got into a nice rhythm, albeit into a gusty wind, although it didn't play too much of a part. We are very pleased to have had a good win against a strong Durham team."

Former Arsenal forward Thomas, 24, is out of contract as is goalkeeper Richards, who has failed to make a first-team appearance. Neither player is being offered a new deal. City will play in the Championship next season after being crowned League One champions.

    Following a request from Danny Jones' family, Keighley Cougars' League One match against Coventry on Sunday will go ahead at Cougar Park as planned.

    Jones collapsed during a game on Sunday and later died. The 29-year-old's number six shirt has been retired by the club in tribute.

    Supporters can apply for tickets for Sunday's match on-line as a large crowd is anticipated.

    Everton manager Roberto Martinez says he would rather hold back Steven Pienaar for pre-season than risk him in their remaining three matches.

    The South African has made just one appearance - as a 28th-minute substitute against Swansea on 11 April - since mid-December because of injury.

    "We'll make sure he has a good fresh start in pre-season and that he's in the best possible shape to have a good campaign," said the Toffees boss.

    England lock Joe Launchbury will return to action this weekend after more than six months out with a neck injury. The Wasps director of rugby Dai Young has confirmed the 24-year-old will be on the bench for Saturday's Premiership match against Leicester.

    Launchbury has not played since October because of the neck problem, which required surgery. He missed England's November internationals as well as the Six Nations, but Young says he is back fit and looking better than ever.
