    Joe Denly and Sam Northeast shared an unbroken partnership of 208 at Bristol as Kent secured their first Championship victory of the summer.

    Opener Denly struck three sixes and 15 fours in his 117, while acting captain Northeast finished unbeaten on 88.

    Paceman Craig Miles and Liam Norwell claimed a wicket each for Gloucestershire, who had won their two previous games, and now have a combined total of 47 for the season.

    Meanwhile, cricket director Andrew Strauss says the new England coach may not be in place before the Ashes start in July.

    Strauss is set to hold talks with Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie over succeeding Peter Moores, who was sacked in May.

    "There is a ticking clock ahead of the Ashes, but we won't rush it," Strauss told Test Match Special. "In an ideal world we'll have someone in place before that, but not if it's not the right man."

    Former Manchester United and Sunderland striker Dwight Yorke says he would be interested in starting his managerial career at the Stadium of Light.

    Yorke, 43, who completes his coaching qualifications this year, says he would be interested in the Sunderland job if manager Dick Advocaat leaves at the end of the season.

    "I feel that one day given the chance the opportunity may come along at Sunderland it would be a team of great interest to me because I feel I've got unfinished business there, " he said, speaking to Kicca., external

    More now on Raheem Sterling and Liverpool say they cancelled a planned meeting with the winger in response to his agent's comments today.

    Aidy Ward reportedly said the England forward, 20, will not sign a new deal even if offered "£900,000 a week".

    The club believe there would be no point in having a meeting when the player's representative is quoted as saying a new deal would not be signed regardless of the figure.

    Liverpool have cancelled a meeting with Raheem Sterling and his representatives which had been due to take place on Friday.

    Sterling's agent Aidy Ward has said today that the winger will not sign a new contract at Liverpool even if he is offered "£900,000 a week" by the club.

    Partick Thistle winger Steven Lawless has been handed an immediate two-match ban for breaching Scottish Football Association rules on betting.

    Lawless was found in breach of the SFA's zero-tolerance rules by betting on 513 games between December 2012 and 3 March this year, although there was no evidence to suggest he was involved in any of the games.

    The 24-year-old was handed a six-match ban in total, but four games are suspended until the end of next season.

    Tonight on BBC Radio 5 live there will be a special programme looking at the big moments of Steven Gerrard's Liverpool career as the 34-year-old prepares to leave English football behind and move to America.

    From the high of Istanbul to the low of his costly slip, 10 of his biggest moments will be remembered and discussed, with key figures such as Xabi Alonso and Didi Hamann contributing.

    The programme will run from 19:30-21:00 BST and be presented by Mike Ingham, who will be joined by actress and Liverpool fan Sue Johnston, Times football editor Tony Evans and the Telegraph's Henry Winter.

    There will also be a special live text commentary on the BBC website running alongside the programme.
