  69. Honours even at Lord's

    Cricket: County Championship Division One

    Lord's

BBC London 94.9's Kevin Hand at Lord's:

Warwickshire 216-5 v Middlesex (day two)

"It was an even morning at Lord's but Warwickshire will be the happier of the sides as they reach lunch on the second day of this rain affected match on 216-5.

"Only 68 runs were added with two wickets falling in the 26 overs that were possible in between a couple of brief showers.

"The greenish pitch is offering a great deal of assistance to the bowlers but a tremendous spell from the seam pairing of Steven Finn and Toby Roland-Jones to open the first hour was hampered by a ball that was already 50 overs old at the start of play."

  70. Roy smashes century for Surrey

    Cricket: County Championship Division Two

BBC London 94.9's Mark Church at The Oval:

Surrey 289-4 v Lancashire (day two)

"It has been quite a morning - Jason Roy started the day 21 not out and goes to lunch unbeaten on 132.

    Jason Roy

"He has scored 111 before lunch with a range of scintillating shots. At the other end Steven Davies has sensibly moved onto 71 and the partnership is worth 215.

"I'm not sure there is much more the Lancashire bowlers could have done this morning. It has just been inspired."

  71. Taylor agrees Swans deal

    Football

Defender Neil Taylor has extended his stay with Swansea after agreeing a new four-year contract.

    taylor

The 26-year-old, who had been linked with West Brom, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, had 12 months remaining on his existing deal but has ended any speculation about his future.

  72. Leicestershire find going tough

    Cricket: County Championship Division Two

BBC Radio Leicester's Richard Rae at Chelmsford:

Essex 166, Leicestershire 102-2 (lunch, day two)

"Steady, if unspectacular, progress is being made by Leicestershire in their first innings after bowling out Essex yesterday.

"While conditions are easier for batting than they were on Sunday, there is still plenty in the pitch for the bowlers, and the Essex seamers have worked hard and been rewarded with two wickets - those of Matt Boyce and Ned Eckersley. Angus Robson is grafting it out on 43 from 114 balls, and Foxes' skipper Mark Cosgrove is still playing himself in.

"The clouds are beginning to gather rather menacingly, but the crowd, watching the various school parties playing impromptu games on the outfield, and listening to the "Hot Jazz" band, is happy enough."

  73. Sussex on top at Trent Bridge

    Cricket: County Championship Division One

BBC Radio Nottingham's Dave Bracegirdle at Trent Bridge:

Notts 63-6 v Sussex (day one)

"Sussex enjoyed the better of a rain-shortened morning. After winning the toss and inserting the hosts, Sussex's opening bowlers exploited the seam-friendly conditions to reduce Notts to 34-4 in the opening hour.

"Steve Magoffin had two successful lbw shouts, removing Brendan Taylor for nine - his sixth straight dismissal in that manner - and James Taylor for nought.

    Chris Jordan

"Chris Jordan (pictured) showed his athleticism to spring to his left to take a sharp one-handed caught-and-bowled offering from Steven Mullaney, before nipping one back to uproot two of Alex Hales' stumps.

"After a 25-minute rain delay, Magoffin struck twice more, finding the edge to have Riki Wessels caught behind for seven and Samit Patel taken at slip for 17."

  74. Federer in charge against Monfils

    Tennis

Roger Federer is now two sets to one ahead in his fourth-round match at the French Open against Gael Monfils. Elsewhere, Andy Murray is 3-1 down early in the second set against Jeremy Chardy.

  75. Worcestershire bowlers skittle Hampshire

    Cricket: County Championship Division Two

    Worcestershire

So it is lunch at Headingley, and also in the County Championship matches.

Here's BBC Radio Solent's Kevan James from the Ageas Bowl.

Hampshire 222 all out v Worcestershire

"Worcestershire's continued discipline with the ball caused Hampshire problems.

"They lost six wickets for 103 this morning and from a position of 88-0 at one stage yesterday afternoon, they lost all 10 wickets for 134.

"On a pitch offering help Hampshire tried to be more positive this morning but struggled against the visitors' accuracy as Joe Leach took 5-63."

  76. Lunch at Headingley

    England v New Zealand

    Alastair Cook

England have started well in their reply to the world record run chase of 455 set by New Zealand to win the second test.

They are 32-0 at lunch with openers Adam Lyth and Alastair Cook both 15 not out.

"It is frustrating, but it's not been a bad frustration because you know you have only got one head. Northampton have been amazing with me from minute one. When you only have one head you don't mess around with that."

    Rugby Union

    David Strettle

Clermont Auvergne have confirmed the signing of England winger David Strettle from Saracens on a three-year deal.

The 31-year-old helped Sarris to the Premiership title on Saturday as they beat Bath 28-16.

Strettle was recently recalled to the England squad by head coach Stuart Lancaster, but will be ineligible to play for his country once he moves across the Channel.

  131. Cech and the snoozing koala

    Football

Remember Jose and the kangaroo from earlier (08:58)?

Well, the wildlife fun continues for Chelsea on their end-of-season tour in Australia, with keeper Petr Cech tweeting this photo of himself with a koala bear.

    Cech

Unfortunately for Cech, his koala pal remained asleep throughout his visit.

Mind you, that's hardly a surprise: because they get so little energy from their diet - which consists mainly of eucalypt leaves - koalas must limit their energy use and sleep 20 hours a day.

  132. Agnew on the Test

    Cricket

Here's the view of BBC cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew before day four.

"If New Zealand do win this match, no-one will begrudge them a share of the series, because they are a team that are very easy to like.

"They respect the game and their opponents and simply seem to enjoy playing. What a shame they are only playing two Tests."

Agnew also bemoans sloppiness in the field by England, saying it has cost them.

Speaking of the cricket, let's recap the state of play ahead of the fourth day.

An unbeaten BJ Watling hundred left New Zealand in a strong position at Headingley, with England facing a huge task to win the second Test.

Martin Guptill and Brendon McCullum also made half-centuries as the Black Caps closed day three on 338-6, a lead of 338.

That represented a fightback from 23-2, aided by England dropping three catches.

England were earlier taken to 350 all out by a rapid 46 from Stuart Broad, as the first-innings scores ended level.

  135. 'I've been once before'

    Football

More on the news that Dutchman Marinus Dijkhuizen has been hired by Brentford to replace departed head coach Mark Warburton.

Dijkhuizen, whose experience of British football extends to a 10-game loan spell at Dunfermline as a player in 2000-01, told the Championship club's website: "I have been to Brentford once before, with my father and brother, to see a game against Coventry City in March 2014.

"We stood on the terrace behind the goal and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of football. There was some very good play.

"We also loved the ambiance in and around the stadium. That is football at its best. I am looking forward to working with everyone at the club for a bright future."

According to as.com, Benítez told reporters "I am ready, I can't wait to be there", as he departed the Marina di Castelo hotel next to Napoli's training facilities, which has been his home for the past two years.

Benítez's arrival is scheduled for 11.30pm (BST) and - according to the website - once in Spain, the former Liverpool manager will finalise his new contract before the announcement of his arrival at Real Madrid and his presentation takes place on Wednesday.

  139. Not your average team photo

You know the score with team photos. The players dress in their kit, they sit on some plastic chairs in the centre circle, the photographer snaps them, and then the same slightly dull picture appears in countless papers and magazine.

This picture was posted by former Manchester City player Javi Garcia on Instagram, and features former Arsenal forward Andrey Arshavin, surrounding Villas-Boas (centre).

Zenit's title win, the fourth in their history, came in Villas-Boas's first full season in charge.

He then tussled with Motherwell's unused substitute Fraser Kerr, before all three players were shown red cards by Craig Thomson after the match.

Scottish Professional Football League officials will meet the Scottish FA and the police today to discuss the incident.

  145. Rangers denied

    Football

Motherwell have preserved their Premiership status courtesy a second comfortable win over Rangers in four days.

Leading 3-1 from the first leg of the play-off final, the Fir Park side stretched their advantage through a deflected shot from Marvin Johnson.

  146. 'He's so confident'

    Tennis

Murray's opponent Jeremy Chardy, is certainly respectful of the Brit.

"He's so confident, because he didn't lose a match on clay," said Chardy, reflecting on Murray's recent form - unbeaten in 13 matches on the surface this year.

    getty

"I played against him in Rome. I played a good match, but still I lost 6-4 6-3. After he beat me, he pulled out from Rome to be fresh for Roland Garros, and I think for him it's a big goal.

"So it will be a really tough match. In the past we always said 'Andy doesn't like to play on clay', but now I think everybody changed and he likes more now to play on clay."

Indeed. Bodes well, though we're British so we know better than to get our hopes up.

  152. Wilshere in trouble

    Football

It wasn't all sweetness and light for Arsenal over the weekend though - midfielder Jack Wilshere getting in trouble after leading fans in an expletive-laden chant during the club's FA Cup victory celebrations.

The 23-year-old took to the microphone in front of thousands of supporters outside the club's Emirates Stadium, mocking Premier League rivals Tottenham.

Wilshere sang two anti-Spurs songs on a balcony alongside his team-mates.

  153. Record-breakers

    Football

Arsenal's victory meant they became the most successful club in FA Cup history - lifting the trophy for the 12th time.

It was also a record-equalling sixth triumph for Arsene Wenger.

Wenger's total of wins now matches the legendary George Ramsay - who previously stood alone with the record for FA Cup final victories, when he was manager at - oddly-enough - Aston Villa between 1887 and 1920

  154. Gunners on fire

    Football

After a lengthy and depressing season (or at least until Mr T Sherwood came aboard), Aston Villa were ecstatic at making the FA Cup final.

But that feeling of happiness didn't last too long at Wembley, the Villans given something of a tonking by Arsenal.

    getty

The Gunners victory was never in doubt, as they dominated with a magnificent display.

Theo Walcott's volley, a superb dipping strike from Alexis Sanchez, Per Mertesacker's header and Olivier Giroud's close-range finish ensured a comfortable 4-0 victory for Arsene Wenger's men.
