Former Bees boss Mark Warburton, 52, left Griffin Park at the end of the season.

Dijkhuizen, who guided Excelsior to 15th in the Dutch Eredivisie last season - the club failing to win any of its final nine matches, will have Roy Hendriksen as his assistant.

Brentford lost to Middlesbrough 5-1 on aggregate in the Championship play-off semi-finals

  2. Cuddly Josepublished at 08:58 British Summer Time 1 June 2015

Chelsea have jetted to Australia for an end-of-season tour, and it looks like boss Jose Mourinho has taken a liking to the local wildlife.

The Blues gaffer was introduced to a kangaroo in Sydney, as these pictures on Chelsea's Twitter page, external show.

Given a kangaroo can reach speeds of over 35mph and jump six feet in the air, might be worth a punt up front next season.

  5. All hell breaks loosepublished at 08:46 British Summer Time 1 June 2015

In scenes reminiscent of Hagler v Hearns circa 1985, Rangers' Tunisian defender Bilel Mohsni responded to a push at the final whistle by Motherwell's Lee Erwin by aiming a kick and punch at the striker.

He then tussled with Motherwell's unused substitute Fraser Kerr, before all three players were shown red cards by Craig Thomson after the match.

Scottish Professional Football League officials will meet the Scottish FA and the police today to discuss the incident.

  6. Rangers deniedpublished at 08:42 British Summer Time 1 June 2015

Motherwell have preserved their Premiership status courtesy a second comfortable win over Rangers in four days.

Leading 3-1 from the first leg of the play-off final, the Fir Park side stretched their advantage through a deflected shot from Marvin Johnson.

Another ricochet from a Lionel Ainsworth's strike doubled the lead and John Sutton added a late penalty to secure a 3-0 victory - and a 6-1 win on aggregate.

That, though, wasn't the full story...

  7. 'He's so confident'published at 08:38 British Summer Time 1 June 2015

Murray's opponent Jeremy Chardy, is certainly respectful of the Brit.

"He's so confident, because he didn't lose a match on clay," said Chardy, reflecting on Murray's recent form - unbeaten in 13 matches on the surface this year.

    gettyImage source, Getty Images

"I played against him in Rome. I played a good match, but still I lost 6-4 6-3. After he beat me, he pulled out from Rome to be fresh for Roland Garros, and I think for him it's a big goal.

"So it will be a really tough match. In the past we always said 'Andy doesn't like to play on clay', but now I think everybody changed and he likes more now to play on clay."

Indeed. Bodes well, though we're British so we know better than to get our hopes up.

  8. Murray timepublished at 08:35 British Summer Time 1 June 2015

There is plenty going on in the world of sport today, but one of the main events is Andy Murray.

The British number one takes on Frenchman Jeremy Chardy for a place in the French Open quarter-finals in the second match on Court Suzanne Lenglen starting at around 11:30-12:00 BST.

The pair have met seven times, with Murray winning six of those matches, including on clay in Rome on 13 May.

We will have live text commentary on the BBC Sport website.

  13. Wilshere in troublepublished at 08:16 British Summer Time 1 June 2015

It wasn't all sweetness and light for Arsenal over the weekend though - midfielder Jack Wilshere getting in trouble after leading fans in an expletive-laden chant during the club's FA Cup victory celebrations.

The 23-year-old took to the microphone in front of thousands of supporters outside the club's Emirates Stadium, mocking Premier League rivals Tottenham.

Wilshere sang two anti-Spurs songs on a balcony alongside his team-mates.

Could have been worse, though - least he didn't get photographed nipping off for a sneaky cig on the lower deck.

  14. Record-breakerspublished at 08:10 British Summer Time 1 June 2015

Arsenal's victory meant they became the most successful club in FA Cup history - lifting the trophy for the 12th time.

It was also a record-equalling sixth triumph for Arsene Wenger.

    gettyImage source, Getty Images

Wenger's total of wins now matches the legendary George Ramsay - who previously stood alone with the record for FA Cup final victories, when he was manager at - oddly-enough - Aston Villa between 1887 and 1920

  15. Gunners on firepublished at 08:05 British Summer Time 1 June 2015

After a lengthy and depressing season (or at least until Mr T Sherwood came aboard), Aston Villa were ecstatic at making the FA Cup final.

But that feeling of happiness didn't last too long at Wembley, the Villans given something of a tonking by Arsenal.

    gettyImage source, Getty Images

The Gunners victory was never in doubt, as they dominated with a magnificent display.

Theo Walcott's volley, a superb dipping strike from Alexis Sanchez, Per Mertesacker's header and Olivier Giroud's close-range finish ensured a comfortable 4-0 victory for Arsene Wenger's men.

It's all cricket, with England likely to need to show a bit of grit and skill with the bat to ensure they don't lose to New Zealand and, in the process, seal a series victory.

More Wilshere - or 'Gobby Jack' as the star call him. Main story, though, concerns Christian Benteke, with Aston Villa apparently ready to offer the striker "a club record-breaking £15m deal" to stay at Villa Park.

Hmm, this headline sounds familiar - Arsene Wenger saying he won't be paying huge amounts out in transfer fees this summer. Then again we're pretty sure he has said the same thing the last two years ... then shelled out £42.4m for Mesut Ozil and £35m for Alexis Sanchez.

A victory parade. a happy occasion, no negative headlines. Right? Wrong.

Jack Wilshere probably isn't in Arsene Wenger's good books today after choosing Sunday's FA Cup parade through North London to lead an expletive-laden anti-Tottenham chant. Oh dear.
