    Mark Cavendish has undergone surgery on his shoulder, bringing his season to a premature end.

    Cavendish suffered ligament damage in his left shoulder after crashing during the Tour of Britain.

    "Ten days on from the crash, I still had pain and I couldn’t lift or pull much weight," Cavendish said.

    "I tried to ride my bike a few days ago on the road, but I could not put any power out by pulling on the handlebars. The surgery was necessary to avoid any problems in the near future."

    Last time England women played a competitive match was in July in Edmonton, Canada at the World Cup.

    And what a match that was as Fara Williams's extra-time penalty ensured England beat Germany for the first time in 31 years to finish third.

    Fast forward two months and England are beginning their Euro 2017 qualifying campaign at Estonia's A Le Coq Arena, Tallinn.

    Estonia are ranked  77th in world, 72 places behind England.

    Martin added: "I left the hotel in Liverpool at 11pm, I spoke to the manager and he told me, go and be with your family but if there is a chance you can get back up for the game in time, then of course we want you back here.

    "She gave birth at 9:30am but I had to leave fairly quickly. I was there for the main event and my wife was amazing.

    "I tried to sleep on the plane back to Liverpool but the flight was only 45 minutes.

    "The adrenaline was carrying me through the last 20-30 minutes of the game but the birth of my son was a special day for me."

    The Norwich striker drove home from the team hotel in Liverpool overnight on Saturday to be with his wife as she gave birth - then caught a plane back to Merseyside on Sunday morning, and scored the all-important equaliser in the Canaries 1-1 draw.

    "It was pretty hectic but I was desperate to be there at the birth of my son. That is the most important thing for me, family," said Martin.

    "Then to play in a game at Anfield and score, I got the best of both worlds and very fortunate. I am privilege to do both and it was a great day."

    Hamilton's championship lead was cut to 41 points by team-mate Nico Rosberg, who finished fourth, and 49 by Ferrari's race-winner Sebastian Vettel.

    Hamilton said: "It's still a long way to go. I know I lost some points today.

    Hull City manager Steve Bruce believes Jake Livermore is "mentally ready" to return to football for the first time after he avoided a Football Association ban for testing positive for cocaine.

     Livermore, 25, failed a drugs test after his newborn son Jake Junior died. 

    The FA ruled the midfielder should not be banned because of "the specific and unique nature of the circumstances".
