Hants cling on at Trent Bridgepublished at 16:18

    Nottinghamshire 340, Hampshire 234-8

BBC Radio Nottingham's Dave Bracegirdle at Trent Bridge: "Hampshire fought hard to remain in contention on the second afternoon of their match against Nottinghamshire.

"Liam Dawson top-scored with 69 as the visitors reached tea, still 106 runs behind. He put on 70 with Sean Ervine, but the partnership was eventually broken by Samit Patel, who celebrated news of his England Test call-up by dismissing Ervine for 32.

"With only one batting point secured so far, Hampshire’s First Division survival hopes remain alive, providing they now go on and win and Sussex lose to Yorkshire at Headingley."

Former Poland captain Michal Zewlakow has been talking abut Robert Lewandowski - and comparing him to Gary Lineker.

"He's a target man, this is a player who can score the goal with his head from the air," said Zewlakow, Poland's most-capped player.

"He can score the easy goals. He has a nose of a Gary Lineker, clever fox in the box.

"Maybe it's not the player who can make a dribble and go past five players but in my opinion this is a player every coach in the world should like to have.'"

"If somebody told me this boy would score four goals in the semi-finals of the Champions League or five goals in nine minutes, we would definitely have raised the price"

Those are the words of Lech Poznan vice-president Piotr Rutkowski, who reflected on the sale of Robert Lewandowski to Borussia Dortmund in 2010 for 4.5m euros. His interview with BBC World can be found here.

Leach sparks Warwickshire collapsepublished at 16:03

Somerset 438, Warwickshire 114-6 - tea, day two

BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's Clive Eakin at Taunton:

"It was an appropriately high point in the game with which Somerset confirmed their First Division status for another season.

"The seventh bonus point needed was claimed when young left-arm spinner Jack Leach took two wickets in two balls to complete a personal five-wicket haul

"It’s been an astonishing collapse for Warwickshire.  For the second time this season they’ve lost five wickets on the same score going from 105-1 to 105-6, with Ian Bell among the men out for 12."

Ian Baraclough has paid for Motherwell's League Cup exit against Morton with his job.

The club have sacked the 44-year-old as manager following the 3-2 extra-time defeat at Cappielow on Tuesday.

Baraclough took charge in December and helped the Steelmen avoid relegation in last season's play-offs.

However, they have taken just seven points out of 24 so far in this season's Scottish Premiership.

Dick Advocaat was steadfastly upbeat following Sunderland’s 4-1 defeat at the Stadium of Light by Manchester City to knock them out of the Capital One Cup.

The Dutch head coach told BBC Newcastle he saw ‘lots of good things’ from Sunderland’s performance and admitted they had been let down by individual errors in three of the four goals. He was pleased though with the chances Sunderland created and a promising debut from their on-loan right back DeAndre Yedlin.

Supporters seem concerned Advocaat will walk away from the job but the 67-year-old is adamant he is still enjoying the role.

The Football Medical Association says it is "disappointed" after its efforts to negotiate a return to Chelsea for club doctor Dr Eva Carneiro failed.

Carneiro, 42, left the club on Tuesday, six weeks after being publicly criticised by Blues boss Jose Mourinho.

She had her role downgraded after Mourinho said his medical staff were "naive" for treating Eden Hazard during the 2-2 draw with Swansea on 8 August.

She is now considering her legal position.
