Police in Bangladesh have defended their efforts to find missing Test cricketer Shahadat Hossain.
Hossain, 29, and his wife have been missing for more than two weeksafter allegations they abused and tortured an 11-year-old housemaid, who was found on the street in Dhaka on 6 September.
Police have been criticised for failing to find the pair.
Nazrul Islam, the investigation's senior officer, told the BBC's Bengali Service they were "serious about it".

One group of Japanese rugby fansbelieve their team can pull off another shock when they take on Scotland at the 2015 Rugby World Cup match in Gloucester.
The Brave Blossoms stunned the sporting world when they beat two-time World Cup winners South Africa 34-32 in their opener in Brighton on Saturday.
These fans feel Eddie Jones' team now have a new sense of belief after their famous victory and one supporter has flown 23 hours from Tokyo just to watch Wednesday's crucial Pool B game.

Japan have been conditioned well, they are very fit, and that allows you to play with intensity. Combine that with accuracy and you are going to be hard to beat.
The Japanese squad and management would have rightly been expectant and hopeful, but never would they 100% have believed they could beat the Springboks from the start.
As far as I can remember, or have been told, this is the biggest rugby upset of all time.
It is right up there as one of the biggest in all sports, we all love it when a David beats a Goliath.

Scotlandare fully prepared for their World Cup Pool B opener againstJapan, according to assistant coach Matt Taylor.
Defence coach Taylor said: "We've been focused on this match for a couple of years but over the last six to eight weeks we've put in a lot of work on Japan," said Taylor.
"They've got dangers all across the park but we're ready for this."

So, it's not long now will Scotland go head to head with Japan.
A couple of months back - actually a few days back - this might have seemed like a fairly routine game for the Scots.
But not any more. Japan shocked the world by pulling off one of the biggest sporting surprises of all time in their thrilling 34-32 defeat of South Africa.
It means that today's game, which kicks-off in Gloucester at 14:30 BST, has taken on a whole new dimension.

Pace bowler Andy Carter has signed a two-year deal with Derbyshire after turning down a new offer from Nottinghamshire.
The 27-year-old, who was out of contract at the end of the season, only featured in one County Championship game for Notts this summer against Worcestershire in July.
Carter said: "I'll have more chance to play all three formats at Derbyshire, which is where I think I should be.
Carter has played 29 first-class matches, taking 91 wickets at an average of 27.95 with best figures of 5-40. He has also made 20 List A and 23 Twenty20 appearances.

The daughter of a rugby fan with dementia says it “took [her] breath away” to hear him singing the Welsh national anthem at the Rugby World Cup.
Helen, a 5 live caller from Bristol, said it took a year of planning to get her father, Bryan, to the tournament because of his condition, but she was determined to take him.
“He kept saying, I can’t believe I’m here, people like me don’t come here,” she said. “He was quite emotional about it”.
“He just sang [the Welsh national anthem] so loud and so proud… to be the same as everyone else, and join in the same way everyone else could, it was amazing.”

The first problem has hit the Rugby World Cup.
Their official shops have run out of Japan merchandise.
According to the Daily Telegraph,, external a pop-up unit on London’s Oxford Street was unable to cope with the huge numbers of Japanese fans - buoyed by the stunning victory over South Africa - wanting to show their support for the national squad.
Brett Gosper tweeted: “We had to close #RWC2015 official merchandise store on Oxford St yesterday due to overwhelming merchandise demand from the Japanese public.”
