Nothing to do with anything we're talking about but how about this for a view of the ring during the fight between Sugar Ray Leonard and Marvin Hagler in April 1987.

The fight took place at the Outdoor Arena at Caesars Palace, it was televised in more than 75 countries, and a crowd of 15,336 produced a gate of $7.9 million.

Despite not fighting for three years heading into the bout, Leonard won on a controversial split decision,.

It was Hagler's first defeat since 1976. Those were the days... Right, after that spot of reminiscing, it's back to normal service now.

The reaction to Robert Lewandowski's five-goal feat...

"This was just crazy," said the man himself. "Five goals, that's just unbelievable. This was a great evening for me."

Boss Pep Guardiola: "This is something I have never experienced before. I can't really understand it."

    Though not everyone was impressed...

"You have to remain critical - Lewandowski could have grabbed seven tonight... he missed two big chances," said Bayern captain Philipp Lahm, with tongue firmly in cheek.

How about this for a story.

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski stepped off the bench at half-time against Wolfsburg last night and score five goals in nine minutes to inspire a 5-1 comeback win.

That means that in nine minutes, Lewandowski scored more league goals thanLiverpool, Newcastle and West Brom have this season, Wayne Rooney has in the whole of 2015 and Nicklas Bendtner has in over three years.

Pretty impressive from Lewandowski then but not quite enough to break the Bundesliga record ...  one short of Dieter Muller's six goals in a game, when Cologne beat Werder Bremen 7-2 in 1977.

It does, though, lead us to today's talking point...

Possibly not surprising this but Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro has decided to leave the club - six weeks after criticism from manager Jose Mourinho.

Carneiro had her role downgraded after Mourinho said his medical staff were "naive" for treating Eden Hazard during the 2-2 draw with Swansea on 8 August.

Chelsea asked Carneiro, 42, to return to work, but she has decided not to and is now considering her legal position.

The Football Association is looking into a complaint that Mourinho used abusive or sexist language towards her.

There is more League Cup action tonight, including a tasty North London derby, a potential banana skin for struggling Newcastle, and a tricky little trip to League One Walsall for Jose Mourinho's Chelsea, where club doctor Eva Carneiro will very definitely not be in the dugout (see next entry...)

Elsewhere unbeaten Leicester ended West Ham's three-match winning run on the road to progress into the fourth round of the League Cup with an extra-time winner.

Hammers keeper Adrian produced several brilliant saves but Andy King's header with four minutes left won the match.

Hull, helped by the returning Jake Livermore - who had been suspended since May following a positive cocaine test - beat Premier League Swansea 1-0, David Meyler with the goal.

The other big results in the League Cup included more travails for Sunderland, who were walloped on their own patch by Manchester City.

The Blues were were 4-0 up inside 36 minutes at the Stadium of Light, and afterwards Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat admitted he was worried fans would walk out.

"I was a little bit scared to be honest and thought hopefully the fans will stay - and they did," he said.

Sergio Aguero, Kevin de Bruyne, a Vito Mannone own goal and Raheem Sterling put City four up, before Ola Toivonen netted a late consolation.

Reflecting on his half-time talk, Advocaat said: "I said we cannot go on this way because City will get double figures."

Then Rowett - reflecting on his team having the upper hand in the opening 45 minutes - came out with this little nugget.

"I felt, in the first half, tactically we got the game spot on, got some runners into some great positions," the Birmingham boss said..

"I have heard Tim said he purposely let us do that in the first half so they could change tactics in the second half, but I'm not sure a tactic of getting booed at half-time would particularly be a good one."

Ouch. Sherwood's view?  "We showed a lot of bottle, even after a first half like that - even though it's how I wanted them to play," he said.

"They took a lot of criticism out there but in the second half they were brave enough to get the ball."

First Blues boss Gary Rowett claimed Aston Villa's team was leaked the day before the game.

"I actually knew their team on Monday funnily enough," said Rowett. "That often happens - you often get a little tip-off. Sometimes they're right, sometimes they're not."

When asked if the leak was a concern, Sherwood replied: "Of course it's not. Did he tell you who it was? It's interesting why he even mentioned it. It's strange."

First to the Midlands derby, which went pretty smoothly on the pitch.

Rudy Gestedeheaded the only goal of the game to send Aston Villa through to the fourth round of the League Cup with a derby victory over neighbours Birmingham City.

The Benin striker powerfully nodded in left-back Jordan Amavi's left-wing cross from 10 yards just after the hour mark.

Then the after-match news conferences started...
