Leeds Rhinos prop Kylie Leuluai has revealed he was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat midway through the 2015 Super League season.

The 37-year-old, whose final game before retirement was Saturday's Grand Final, told the Yorkshire Evening Post, external it had forced him to play for shorter periods of time, and added: "Having an irregular heartbeat takes 20% of the oxygen out of your blood, so it's been very tough for me physically and it has an effect mentally as well.

"That's the reason why I've been playing shorter minutes. [Head coach] Brian McDermott and the club had an understanding and I don't think I could do longer than the stints I was doing because of the implications."

Leuluai, who joined from Australian side Manly in 2006, does not have any fears over his long-term health and said medication had helped him control the condition.

Fifa suspends Thai FA chiefpublished at 13:35

    Football

Fifa has said the move to suspend Thai FA president Worawi Makudi for 90 days was made "on the grounds that a breach of the Code of Ethics appears to have been committed and a decision on the main issue may not be taken early enough".

It added: "This decision against Worawi Makudi followed a request from the chairman of the investigatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee, Dr Cornel Borbély. The case is now the subject of formal investigation proceedings."

The ban covers all national and international activity and is effective immediately, it said.

Platini ban appeal rejected by Fifapublished at 13:10

    Football

Michel Platini's appeal against his 90-day suspension from football activity has been rejected by Fifa's Ethics Committee, which said he was questioned by investigators for five hours in the days beforehand.

He was given the ban on 8 October while an investigation into corruption allegations is conducted, however his lawyers claimed he had not had chance to defend himself. The Adjudicatory Chamber of the Fifa Ethics Committee said Platini had been interviewed for five hours on 1 October.

A spokesperson said: "The argument put forward by Michel Platini’s lawyers that their client had not had the possibility to defend himself before the Adjudicatory Chamber of the Fifa Ethics Committee before his suspension is not valid.

"After the Investigatory Chamber of the Fifa Ethics Committee had heard him for more than five hours on October 1, 2015 (with the hearing documented on more than 50 pages), the chairman of the Adjudicatory Chamber, Hans-Joachim Eckert, did not see a need for a second hearing with Mr Platini."

The former Chelsea trainee denied the Football Association charge, but was found guilty after a personal hearing.

"I categorically deny spitting on anyone and find the allegation made against me inaccurate," he said.
