Dutch legend Johan Cruyff says the outpouring of support since he confirmed he was suffering from lung cancer has been emotional and heart warming - but the leaking of the news disappointed him.

"I'm enormously proud of the appreciation that has been evident from all the reaction to the news," the Netherlands' most famous footballer wrote in his weekly newspaper column on Monday

He cited the applause for him in the 14th minute of matches across the Dutch league this weekend, while at his old club Barcelona players wore special t-shirts before their league game against Eibar.

"Now comes the waiting," he wrote of the next step in the fight against the disease. "It was really disappointing that it leaked out because the only thing that I know right now is that I have lung cancer. Nothing more."

And here's Mark Hughes's thoughts on Jose Mourinho...

"Jose is a top manager, and he knows that. He is the best manager the club has ever had. Why would they change him?

"At times, we are all guilty of it, he maybe changes focus of what has happened on the pitch. He tries to take the pressure of his players by highlighting a referee in a game that takes the attention away from his guys. We have all done that from time to time."

Mark Hughes is now fielding questions on Chelsea, who are 15th in the Premier League at their weekend defeat at West Ham...

"We are above Chelsea at the moment but I don't anticipate them struggling for too much longer," he said. "All teams, whatever level, go through these periods, but Chelsea have quality right the way through the club which will enable them to come through this period.

"Chelsea understand the difficulties of being up there and ready to be shot at, but a lot of teams have invested this year and have become stronger. Maybe the gap has closed a little bit."
