All indications are that Villa Park could be about to witness its own French revolution.

Remi Garde has been the bookies favourite to replace Tim Sherwood as Aston Villa manager since the weekend, but the availability of his desired backroom staff - who all recently signed new deals at Lyon - continues to stall any appointment.

A new name has appeared on Wednesday, with St Etienne's Christopher Galtier being mentioned in dispatches. The 49-year-old has some Premier League experience, having been assistant manager at Portsmouth, but seems very much a fall-back option.

We know the current Villa hierarchy have strong links to Arsenal and, with the recruitment of several French players in the summer, it is perhaps no surprise that their focus is firmly fixed on the other side of the English Channel.
