  2. A European force

Sevilla v Manchester City (19:45 GMT)

    Alistair Bruce-Ball

    BBC Radio 5 live commentator

Sevilla haven't been great in La Liga this season (11th) but are still formidable opponents on home turf. In their last two home games in La Liga they have beaten Barcelona 2-1 and Getafe 5-0.

They have won the Europa League in the last two campaigns, winning their last 10 European fixtures at home. Their last defeat was 2-0 against Real Betis in last 16 of the Europa League in March 2014.

Manuel Pellegrini's record at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan with Villarreal, Real Madrid and Malaga wasn't the best either - played nine, won two, lost seven.

The atmosphere is building in Seville ahead of the game...

If Manchester City can win, and Juventus do the same in Germany against Borussia Monchengladbach, then the Premier League will have qualified for the knockout stages with two games to spare.

  5. Klopp to name strong side

Rubin Kazan v Liverpool (Thurs, 18:00 GMT)

    g

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to take a strong squad to Russia for the Europa League tie against Rubin Kazan.

Most of the players who were involved in the weekend win at Chelsea are scheduled to travel, although one definite absentee will be Joao Teixeira, who is ineligible for the competition.

Liverpool at the very least have to avoid defeat in Kazan if they are to avoid a tricky conclusion to their Group B campaign.

They currently trail leaders Sion, on seven points, by three and are ahead of Kazan by a single point.

  6. 'Pretty insulting'

    Rugby Union

    SA

Steffon Armitage has branded England stars supporting his World Cup exclusion as "pretty insulting".

Toulon flanker Armitage joined Nick Abendanon in criticising Tom Youngs and Tom Wood for suggesting a U-turn on England's policy of not selecting overseas-based stars could have proved divisive at the World Cup.

"I know them, played against them, and to hear them say we'd be a distraction if selected was pretty insulting," Armitage told Rugby World.

"At the end of the day all we wanted to do was make the team better and I just think it was wrong for players to say what they did. We could have learned from each other and created more rivalry for places."

  7. Boo when you want

Sevilla v Man City (Tues, 19:45 BST)

    g

Manager Manuel Pellegrini says Manchester City's supporters have the right to boo the Champions League anthem in protest at Uefa.

The club were reported after fans were heard jeering the music before their 2-1 home win over Sevilla.

"I think everyone has the right to boo or protest on different things," the Chilean told a news conference ahead of Tuesday's return game in Spain.

"If they boo then they feel there's something Uefa is not doing right."

  8. 'Thanks Bill'

    Football

A banner in support of Everton chairman Bill Kenwright will be flown over Goodison Park before the club's next home game, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The message, which will thank Kenwright for 'everything he has done' for the Blues, will be trailed at the Aston Villa match on 21 November.

Earlier this season, a group of Evertonians arranged for planes to fly over their games with Southampton and Chelsea, with Kenwright the subject of critical messages.

  20. Champions League chat

Sevilla v Manchester City (19:45 GMT)

Former Sevilla and France international defender Julien Escude has been speaking to BBC World Service:

    Do Sevilla need to win?

"Yes exactly as always, it's the very, very highest level, and it's a home match in front of their own fans, so the three points are all important. For me it's going to be very difficult, we know how good Man City are. They are very high level. On paper they are the better team but in the first match it was very difficult for Man City. I hope Sevilla will have more luck this time around.

After flirting with the drop for a few years, there's a growing feeling that this season Villa may not dodge the drop this time.

After 11 games, they are bottom and need 36 points from 27 games to get to the 40-point mark. Their next six league games include matches with Manchester City, Everton, Southampton and Arsenal, so it's already a big challenge for Garde to keep them up.

    Mark Regan

    BBC WM Sport

I'm not sure that there's a team in the Premier League afraid of Villa or playing at Villa Park. The entire club lacks leadership, is rudderless and is held back by a “comfort culture”. Sadly it`s been that way for a few years now.

Owner Randy Lerner wants to sell and chief executive Tom Fox is conspicuous by his absence from the media.

Far too often the fans at home turn up to be let down. Garde has to find a way to give the whole club direction and leadership.

As Brian Clough used to say, 'All great sides are built on clean sheets'. Villa`s last one in the league was in the opening day victory over Bournemouth and, since then, they have let in 20 goals in 10 games.

Villa simply can`t give two goals to anyone in the Premier League and hope to win the game. At the moment they are a soft touch and need to become harder to score against.

"We are where we are. I have come under criticism from players I have looked up to and take it on the chin. Rio, Gary Neville etc. When certain other people speak, maybe I don't listen from players who have played at a really bad level, who haven't had a career.

"There is talk about them leaving and for me they have to be here and in the Premier League. We have to get behind the best people in the Premier League and make this the best league in the world.

"In all aspects he is by far, a long, long way, the best manager I have worked with. We are going to turn this round. He will be in charge for the rest of the season and long after I have finished because he is the best man to take the club forward."

"For managers whether you are winning or losing, they have to face you. If you want managers to speak openly, without being fined, or we will get boring answers.

"In my whole career, I have never heard a player say he would rather lose than win for a manager. It is ridiculous I have to talk about it. It hurts because people are fighting.

Jose Mourinho said: "I think Chelsea will finish first in the group, I am completely convinced we are going to qualify. The reality is the game is not even one we have to win because a draw and two victories after mean we will qualify."

A little anecdote from Jose Mourinho now...

"Yesterday a friend sent me some quotes from a news conference after the Champions League final in May 2004 and I completely forgot it," he says.

"Back then I said that one day in my career bad results will come and I said that in 2004 after winning the Champions League final with Porto.

"I will face the bad results with the same honesty and dignity that I am facing now. May 2004 I said that. So 11 years later I resisted well to the nature of my job, to the nature of football... 11 years waiting for this.

"It took time but this is the moment I am stable and strong to face it."

    Why aren't results turning around?

Jose Mourinho: "I told you already, it is a combination of factors. One reason would be easy to fix, it is not one reason.

Do you need to show more dignity, asks BBC sports editor Dan Roan?

"This moment the way I am going to show my dignity is not to answer you."

What do you need to do differently to be the better manager you want to be?

"To do what I do all my life, which is to study, and in my case it is difficult to study from others," answers Jose Mourinho.

"When you reach my level you have to learn from yourself, from own experiences, from analysing the work I do day-by-day.

"That's why I have a staff of assistants, to discuss every detail of our job, and I learn daily with the experiences that come."

Will you become a better coach because of what is happening and will you learn from it?

"I try to be better every day, not just because of this," Jose Mourinho said. "If I was only a better coach because of bad results I'd be a very bad coach because in the past 15 years I'd have never improved.

"But I try to improve every day, I analyse every detail of my work very day. I analyse matches, it's what I do every day."

    Michelle Payne

Imagine how big it will be when a female jockey wins the Aintree Grand National - enormous - and they were saying the same in Australia about the Cup.

Consequently, Michelle Payne has been propelled from 'good jockey' to 'national celebrity' and one of the most famous sportswomen around after scaling the heights on Prince of Penzance.

To have beaten Frankie Dettori, the most famous jockey in the world, in the process can only add to the sense of achievement. A red-letter day for the once oh-so-macho world of Aussie sport.

Australian Michelle Payne has become the first female jockey to win Australia's most prestigious horse race, the Melbourne Cup.

Frankie Dettori was banned for a month and fined A$20,000 (£9,338) for careless riding on Max Dynamite.

Payne said winning was "everybody's dream as a jockey in Australia".

    Football

    JM

So to Chelsea, where things seem to be continuing to go from bad to worse.

Jose Mourinho has been given a one-match stadium ban with immediate effect and also fined £40,000 by the Football Association.

The punishment comes after Mourinho admitted a misconduct charge over his language and behaviour in the defeat by West Ham on 24 October.

Mourinho, 52, was sent to the stands after going to speak to referee Jon Moss in his room at half-time and will now miss Chelsea's league game at Stoke on Saturday, unless he appeals.

  133. All out

    Pakistan v England (Third Test)

It's all over in the UAE. England have been bowled out for 306, with Stokes' valiant effort to hold up an end is over - bowled for a 10-ball duck.

Stuart Broad finished unbeaten on 13 - England are 72 ahead. Nicely poised indeed.

  134. Frosty

    Formula 1

Seems things remain a trifle frosty between Mercedes team-mates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Hamilton says the team have "felt the need to be extra warm" to Rosberg since the Briton won his third World Championship.

    hamilton

Rosberg won in Mexico on Sunday with Hamilton a frustrated second after a dispute over team strategy.

Asked if the team had orchestrated the result, Hamilton said: "I never think those kind of things. But I know the team has felt the need to be extra warm [to Rosberg]."

Even when discussing Rosberg's Mexico win Hamilton managed to get in a barbed reference to the German's mistake in the previous grand prix in Austin that cost him victory, saying: "Nico drove well. No mistakes. No gust of wind."

  135. Jerome's sympathy for Ruddy

    Football

    Chris Goreham

    BBC Radio Norfolk sport

    John Ruddy

Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy is being backed to stay in the team by striker Cameron Jerome.

Ruddy hasn't kept a clean sheet since the Canaries won the Play-Off final at Wembley in May and was at fault in the build-up to Manchester City's winning goal on Saturday.

“John's been magnificent for us so we can't be too critical of him,” said Jerome.

But Jerome insists the fact that England number one Joe Hart made a bad mistake in the same game underlines how precarious life as a goalkeeper is.

  136. Ready for action

    Pakistan v England (Third Test)

However, judging by this, he will be having a bat...

And he might be batting very soon too.

Samit Patel has just been bowled for 42, which leaves England on 291-8 with Stuart Broad and James Anderson at the wicket - and only Stokes to come.

He's padded up in the pavilion, so despite the fact he'll have to effectively bat with on hand, he's going to give it a go.
