Just so we're not accused of ignoring Tottenham, Mauricio Pochettino's team continue to quietly go from strength to strength.

Unbeaten in the Premier League since the opening weekend, it's no wonder Pochettino was pretty pleased afterwards.

"it was a fantastic game for us and I'm pleased with the players," he said.

"It is true that we haven't lost since the first game of the season but in football the present is always important. If we try to think too much about our position in the table or the objective for the end of the season, this is wrong."

Former New Zealand winger Sir John Kirwan believes that two-time world cup winner Richie McCaw should retire.

When asked about the current All Blacks captain, Kirwan said: "I think he should retire. You’re going to be a legend for the rest of your life, if you hang on too long and have to get dropped, how sad would that be."

McCaw, who has won 148 caps, says he will take his time in making a decision about his future.

'He has a better CV than me'published at 08:23

    Tottenham 3-1 Aston Villa 1

The build-up to the game was hardly ideal for Villa given that Remi Garde's arrival from France was delayed by fog.

New boss Garde didn't speak to the media afterwards, that job falling to caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald.

"The one thing Remi Garde has is a group of players with a tremendous work ethic," MacDonald told reporters.

"I'll give him my thoughts on who does what and it's up to him to decide. He's got a lot better CV than me in coaching.

"How we play will be down to him. We've got 27 games left and that's a lot of points to play for. We need probably another 36 points and that's Champions League form."

So to Aston Villa, who suffered a club record-equalling seventh straight Premier League defeat at Tottenham as new boss Remi Garde watched from the stands.

Garde had barely taken his seat when Mousa Dembele beat Brad Guzan to give the home side an early lead.

It got worse when Dele Alli struck before Villa rallied through Jordan Ayew.

Harry Kane put the result beyond doubt late on though, as Spurs extended their unbeaten run to 10 league games.

And something else to look out for.

Chelsea bossJose Mourinhois due to talk to the media at 12:30 GMT. It's meant to be a routine news conference ahead of the Blues' Champions League home match against Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday.

But given what's happening at the Bridge at the moment - and the fact it's Mourinho talking - we doubt very much it will be routine.

We'll bring you the best of what is said.

So, the 'new manager bounce' didn't quite happen for Aston Villa then.

Still, in fairness, Remi Garde wasn't officially in charge. Maybe Villa will start playing in their next match. It's quite a straightforward one - Manchester City on Sunday.

We'll reflect on that, plus there's loads of Champions League titbits, plus cricket, plus Formula 1, plus... well, whatever sport you care to mention really.

Don't go anywhere, it's going to be a busy one. First, a look at the papers...
