Imagine how big it will be when a female jockey wins the Aintree Grand National - enormous - and they were saying the same in Australia about the Cup.

Consequently, Michelle Payne has been propelled from 'good jockey' to 'national celebrity' and one of the most famous sportswomen around after scaling the heights on Prince of Penzance.

To have beaten Frankie Dettori, the most famous jockey in the world, in the process can only add to the sense of achievement. A red-letter day for the once oh-so-macho world of Aussie sport.

Australian Michelle Payne has become the first female jockey to win Australia's most prestigious horse race, the Melbourne Cup.

The New Zealand-bred Prince of Penzance won despite being an outsider, with French horse Max Dynamite second and New Zealand horse Criterion third.

Frankie Dettori was banned for a month and fined A$20,000 (£9,338) for careless riding on Max Dynamite.

Payne said winning was "everybody's dream as a jockey in Australia".

All of which below is why Mourinho's news conference - due in a few hours, at 12:30 GMT - should be well worth tuning into.

He's there, in theory, to discuss his side's Champions League game on Wednesday with Dinamo Kiev.

In reality, that will be the last thing the journalists assembled want to ask about...

It should be an interesting appointment with the Chelsea boss - don't miss it.

So to Chelsea, where things seem to be continuing to go from bad to worse.

Jose Mourinho has been given a one-match stadium ban with immediate effect and also fined £40,000 by the Football Association.

The punishment comes after Mourinho admitted a misconduct charge over his language and behaviour in the defeat by West Ham on 24 October.

Mourinho, 52, was sent to the stands after going to speak to referee Jon Moss in his room at half-time and will now miss Chelsea's league game at Stoke on Saturday, unless he appeals.

It's all over in the UAE. England have been bowled out for 306, with Stokes' valiant effort to hold up an end is over - bowled for a 10-ball duck.

Stuart Broad finished unbeaten on 13 - England are 72 ahead. Nicely poised indeed.

Seems things remain a trifle frosty between Mercedes team-mates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Hamilton says the team have "felt the need to be extra warm" to Rosberg since the Briton won his third World Championship.

Rosberg won in Mexico on Sunday with Hamilton a frustrated second after a dispute over team strategy.

Asked if the team had orchestrated the result, Hamilton said: "I never think those kind of things. But I know the team has felt the need to be extra warm [to Rosberg]."

Even when discussing Rosberg's Mexico win Hamilton managed to get in a barbed reference to the German's mistake in the previous grand prix in Austin that cost him victory, saying: "Nico drove well. No mistakes. No gust of wind."

Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy is being backed to stay in the team by striker Cameron Jerome.

Ruddy hasn't kept a clean sheet since the Canaries won the Play-Off final at Wembley in May and was at fault in the build-up to Manchester City's winning goal on Saturday.

“John's been magnificent for us so we can't be too critical of him,” said Jerome.

But Jerome insists the fact that England number one Joe Hart made a bad mistake in the same game underlines how precarious life as a goalkeeper is.

However, judging by this, he will be having a bat...

And he might be batting very soon too.

Samit Patel has just been bowled for 42, which leaves England on 291-8 with Stuart Broad and James Anderson at the wicket - and only Stokes to come.

He's padded up in the pavilion, so despite the fact he'll have to effectively bat with on hand, he's going to give it a go.

    What a hero.
