Manchester City should not have played a weakened team against Chelsea in the FA Cup, says BBC pundit Alan Shearer.

City played six teenagers and lost 5-1 with Wednesday's Champions League tie with Dynamo Kiev in mind.

"Barcelona played on Saturday and they face Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday," said Shearer.

"It is the same amount of time as City, but they didn't rest any players.

"I don't get the talk of resting players. City are - and want to be - a very big club on the global stage.

"They've got more resources than anyone. I never see Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo wanting to be left out. It seems a big issue in our country."

'What's the point when you pretty much know that Lewis Hamilton will probably put the car on pole and more likely than not win the race, and the other Mercedes will be on the podium?"

Brendon McCullum went cheaply in his final Test innings for New Zealand as Australia put themselves in pole position after day three of the second Test in Christchurch.

After his day-one fireworks - where he blasted the fastest ever Test century off just 54 balls - the stage was set for McCullum to help the Black Caps wipe out a 135-run first-innings deficit.

But he was one of four New Zealand batsman to fall as Australia reduced them to 121 for four after being bowled out for 505 earlier in the day.

McCullum made 25 and ends his Test batting career with 6,453 runs at an average of 38.64.

Nice touch by the Aussie team to applaud him off the field.
